My day started at 5am. That’s not unusual The temperature was 59. Here it is a little before 11am and the temp has fallen eight degrees with it expected to continue the plunge. That’s a bit unusual, but it’s autumn, whatcha gonna do? Bundle up in soft cozy sweats, right? Anyhow, this has been a productive and busy morning, as this is my third post for the day. You may want to consider checking these out Chit Chat On Patrice’s Farmhouse Porch and Wayback Wednesdays…1995 (I am co-host of this meme).
Now, I’m off to play in Joyce’s Volume 49 of Wednesday Hodgepodge.
- How do you typically react in a sudden, extreme, pressure-filled crisis? Would we want you nearby in an emergency? For the most part, I’m pretty grounded during a crisis. There have been two incidents in recent history. One is where my son fell on small protruding stump in our yard and he gashed his leg. It required a trip to the ER and several stitches. I did get a little sick at looking at his injury, but in all fairness I believe that’s largely due to I was already feeling queasy.
2. Caramel apple-caramel sundae-caramel corn-caramel macchiato…of the four, which caramel treat would you choose? No question about it, caramel corn! In fact, I am going to make a nice large batch of this heavenly stuff at the end of the month, as part of our Halloween goodies for us!
4. What’s your favorite piece of furniture? I’m referring to something currently in your possession as opposed to something on your wish list. Our dilapidated rocker/recliner is my most prized furniture possession and that’s only because there are so many fond memories tied up in this thing. I’ve spent hours upon hours in that thing nursing or reading stories to or rocking to sleep my babies in. The day we finally oust it and it really needs to be shoved out the door, I’m sure my eyes will tear up.
5. Wednesday night marks the start of the 2011 Baseball World Series. Did you know? Do you care? Will you be watching? Ever been to a professional baseball game? If you’re not an American do you find the title ‘World Series’ annoying or amusing? I knew the World Series was coming, as I get these text alerts. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have a clue. I like baseball, but I can’t watch it on TV. We use to go to the games when we kids and I enjoyed that. I even use to like playing baseball/softball with my friends, but watching it on TV is rather boring.
6. A sound that takes me back to my childhood is the rumbling sound of a distant train. Growing up in southern WV, a train ran along the river near our house on the opposite side. It was a good distant, but near enough to hear its call in the late hours of the night. There was something peaceful about hearing it move on the rails and when the whistle blew it was like a soothing lullaby. When our children were infants, many nights I would be in that old rocker/recliner to be greeted by the lonesome sound of choo-choo several miles from our home in the wee hours of the morning. It without fail did this time and time again. Every time, it brought a sleepy smile to my face, as I rested my eyes as my baby nursed. When I hear that sound today, I reflect on that short period in my life – that bonding time with my babies. I sure do miss those days!
7. On average, once you’ve linked your hodgepodge post to mine how many other participant blogs do you visit? Do you ever come back to the Hodgepodge later in the day or even the day after to read posts? I immediately hop over to a two or three blogs before quitting to do a few chores or to get another post up, but then I zip back over later in the day to visit a few more blogs. This is only second week playing in this meme. However, I generally do this sort of routine in ll the memes I participate in.
8. Insert your own random thought here. I attempted to give myself a home perm a few days ago. I got as far as the setup stage to discover the rods don’t work well in my hair. What a bust! Back to the drawing board…more homework to do on my DIY perms. I need to figure out which rods to use for my short, delicate hair. *sigh*
Do you like hot cocoa mix? I love hot cocoa, but don’t like all the calories. So, I bought some Nestle no sugar added 50 calories and Swiss Miss Sensible Sweets ‘Diet’ 25 calories. Instant cocoa fixed with hot water is too tasteless for me even when using regular cocoa mix. Yeah, sometimes I do it, but I prefer using skim milk. Anyhow, both of these are quite good. I was pleasantly surprised. This gave me a brilliant idea, why not make my sugar-free cocoa mix? So, I mixed two tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa (20 calories) and two packets of Splenda (0 calories). Not bad for my first try. It was a bit on the strong side, so I’m going to cut that in half next go around. Oh, the calorie count doesn’t include the skim milk (90 calories per/cup). I’m in hog heaven over these reduced calorie alternatives to enjoying my favorite hot chocolaty beverage! smiles
I’m actively working on learning all I can about product reviewing. Other Bloggers are earning some extra pocket-money doing this and at the very least are able to keep the products they test out, which is totally cool. I like giving my friends the heads up on things I try while crafting my writing skills. This sounds like a wonderful combination for me to deeply contemplate on, don’t you think? Watch for my PR button or tab to show up on my blog any day!

Good post with lots of get to know you stuff:)I have my grandpa’s Mission Style wooden rocker and remember using the arms as a horse. My dad has that memory too..
When my children were young I too had an old rocker that it seemed as though we practically lived in. We did finally have to get rid of the thing and it was a sad day indeed. Your answer for #3 was very well said. I enjoyed my visit! : )
The sound of a train takes me back to my son’s childhood when we lived near the main line between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg. He and I used to walk up near the tracks and watch them go by all the time.
I enjoyed visiting and thanks for stopping by my blog today. 🙂
I still have the rocker my mother used with me and I used with the lovelies. It’s in the attic because it’s in need of repair. And Hubs can repair it. He just never gets around to it. But thanks for reminding me of it! It brought back such lovely memories!
I like your answer about is there destiny or not, that was very well said about God and free will.
Hey, no problem about calling me Janette. I have often been afraid of doing that when I have visited lots of blogs in a morning.
I love Janette, so I am flattered.
I really enjoyed reading your answers this week and I can’t believe how cold it is where you live.
Have a nice week,
If you’re a coffee lover (like me) try mixing your hot chocolate mix with coffee – something I used to do all the time before I started trying to lose weight.
