Monday's Music Moves Me

Sinatra-Style Mewsic #yourchoicesongpicks

This little guy is sending prayers up for Marie.  She’s having back surgery this week and I hope you’ll keep her in your prayers, too.  Please see Sandee for more Awww Mondays fun-spiration!

Good morning, Kittens and Dawgs! It’s fabulous to see you.  It’s a new work week for most, in the office or at home, with a to-do list a mile long but we won’t let that get us down.  Before I get started let me begin by saying it’s going to be a wee stretch to make my rounds with DH’s appointments today and tomorrow but I’m going to my best dance with you on-the-go.  You know how technology can be sometimes.  That being said, let’s get the groove on with today’s theme, “your choice song picks“!

I’m body swaying this morning along with some oldies trying to not fall out of my chair to song picks found on Sirius XM radio channel 71, Siriusly Sinatra.   My playlist Sinatra-Style Mewsic selections feature Rod Stewart covering the classic “Blue Moon“, the legendary Ray Charles singing that jazzy bluesy tune “Cry Me a River“, the girl-next-door (sorry it’s not me) Doris Day charming us with “It’s Been a Long, Long Time“,  jazz vocalist Steve Tyrell performing “You’d Be So Nice To Come Home To“, and winding things up with the romantically, mesmerizing mewsical duet by Chris Botti & Paula Cole “My One and Only Love“!  Just press play and have a cup of coffee.

Please join my fellow co-hosts: XmasDolly (Party Coordinator), StacyAlana, Colette (taking semi-blog hiatus due to eye issues), and this month’s honorary co-host Mary from Jingle, Jangle, Jungle on the dance floor below.

We really want to boogie with you, so please keep in mind that this is a blog hop and open to mewsic posts ONLY!

[tweetthis]I’m boogieing to “your choice song picks” with the #MondaysMusicMovesMe gang.  Come hit the dance floor with me! @xmasdolly [/tweetthis]

Marie’s surgery is this Wednesday, so you may or may not find her boogieing with us today.  I told our gal we’d all understand if she can’t dance with us.  Hopefully, she’s just relaxing or tieing up loose ends for her surgery.  Please continue to keep those 🙏 prayers 🙏 going!  I send my love and hugs to you for a speedy recovery.  I sure hope the doctors can fix you up!! 😘

Before you leave, please don’t forget to vote in my latest BoTB! Now, keep those tunes playing, your body swaying, and I’ll be boogieing over to see you soon.

X💋X💋,

Cathy

    Hi Cathy,
Hope all of your appointments this week went well. It’s Thursday night so the week is almost over, thankfully.
You have put together a wonderful playlist for us! Music I typically don’t listen to but it’s a wonderful reminder that there is more to life than classic rock. haha
My favorites are “You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To” and the Ray Charles number. Of course I always love to hear Rod Stewart’s voice. I never really got into Doris Day for some reason…But here in your playlist she fits perfectly.
I really really like the songs you gave us this week. Thanks!

Have a good weekend. Hope you’re feeling much better since your procedure.

      Michele,

That’s the beauty with mewsic, you don’t have to prefer it normally to enjoy it on occasion. I do feel better than I did last week at this time. My ears are a bit less muffled and the bronchitis-like symptoms have improved. I just wish I could sleep better. For the last three nights I’ve woken up around 1am and can’t go back to sleep, so I just lay in bed till the alarm goes off for fear if I get up then it’ll wake DH. He’s the one who’s usually awake for a few hours every single night and is in need of every Z he can get. I don’t know if my hormone pellets are not working as effective or I just have too many things on my mind to push out of my thoughts. Regardless of the reason, it’s driving me nuts! *sigh* Thanks for dancing with me, my friend!

      Diego,

Thank you for stopping in to listen to my mewsic picks this week. I noticed that you write for the online source datahand and I was going to leave a comment but it requires connecting a Facebook comment plugin which I didn’t wish to authorize. Have a good weekend!

Sorry I’m so late… I was in bed most of the day.. Rod Stewart’s Blue Moon is awesome! I never heard it before. Thanks for the introduction. Absolutely lovely… I’ve been up a while… so I’m going to lay down now & tomorrow I await the phone call to tell me what time to be there on Wednesday, but I got good news today… my daughter is coming in from Missouri the day of my surgery so she can make sure her mama is okay and settled in good. I’m so happy she’s going to make it after all. Thanks again my friend for everything! BIG HUGS… I hope this finds you doing well and what you had done is going well. BIG HUGS!!!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Marie,

You’re late? Look at me! I thought I made a point to at least respond to yours because I knew there was a slight chance I’d have trouble getting around to you before your surgery and it looks like I’m an epic fail here on this score. So sorry! Anywho, I sure appreciate you making time to dance with me and I hope your surgery went well. I figured you’re probably out of recovery by now and sleeping the afternoon away. Just rest easy and focus on speedy recovery. Remember your healing comes when you’re sleeping so don’t push yourself. Listen to your body! Lots of prayers, love, and hugs to you, girlie!

    Hi Cathy!

I’m finally getting around to visiting some blogs. It’s been a CRAZY day! You didn’t say how your own procedure went, but I’m assuming since you’re posting that all is well in Cathyland.

Enjoyed your Sinatra-style songs. Unique theme for the day 🙂

      Mary,

Hey, no worries about visiting late here. Look at me? I’m really running behind this week! But, yeah you’re correct everything in Cathyland is okay for the most part. It’s just been busy, busy, busy here between my surgery and then DH’s eye appointment and oral surgery this week. At least I can say life is never dull around here. Not mention, I’m pulling together a baby shower for my daughter at the last minute. I learned none of her friends were giving her one, so I offered to do it. Oh well… thanks for dancing with me. I will be over to see you shortly!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Mimi,

You know, I hadn’t thought of that before but you might be onto something there. 😀 LOL Thanks for the dance. Have a boogietastic week, my friend!

  • Stephen T. McCarthy

    HiYa, CATHY!
I’m here to see how you’ve been doing since your ear operation. I trust everything went well and you are doing much better(?) Are my prayers of gratitude in order?

      Stephen,

My friend, I did leave a brief update on my ear tube surgery in Friday’s post and perhaps I should’ve done so again here but I didn’t want to sound like a broken record. Plus…I wanted others to focus on Marie’s surgery which is today. I sure do appreciate you following up on me. I am doing okay after the procedure itself but I picked up something and it threw me for a loop. You know the old saying if you want to get sick go to the hospital. Well, I was joking about this very thing while they prepped me for surgery and it looks like I jinxed myself. I’m totally gratiful for dear friends like you. Thank you for keeping me in your prayers! 🙂

  • Lisa

What an adorable praying pussycat! And ahhhh….Sinatra! I love his music to this day. Roald Dahl is a favorite of mine and your choice of Sparks is a wonderful way to begin the week.

  • John Holton

Great selections here, Cathy! Listening to Ray Charles cover “Cry Me A River,” a classic torch song first done by Julie London, tells me where Joe Cocker came up with the idea to cover it. A bunch of winners here!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      John,

You know what, I never made the connection of Joe Cocker’s “Cry Me A River” as a cover. I guess its Cocker’s uptempo version that shot this right over my head. Your pointing this out to me made me double check the song to see if I can NOW hear that it’s a cover and I do! Thanks for sharing that with me and for joining me on the dance floor!

I just came from Marie’s blog. She’s in my prayers for a successful surgery. She’s a wonderful gal.

I love the music today. In fact it’s playing as I type. What a voice.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday filled with wonderful music. Big hugs. ♥

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Sandee,

Thanks for keeping Marie in your prayers. I have no idea what time her surgery is today but I imagine it’ll be early. Thanks for sharing the dance floor with me, dearie!

  • DrillerAA

Rod Stewart made one of the smartest moves in music history when he realized that he couldn’t sing Maggie Mae and Hot Legs for ever. He moved to the pop classics of the 40’s & 50’s and applied his special touch of gravel to these tunes. Thanks for sharing.

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

I hope you had a restful weekend and that you are recovering normally from your ear procedure. Sending prayers for Marie this week, too.

All five of the Sinatra-Style mewsic selections on your playlist are new to my ears. I appreciate songs like “Blue Moon” that have an extended intro before the main melody comes into play. Another good example is the 1963 Lenny Welch recording “Since I Fell For You.”

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7xrQY_FLM4

Rod Stewart did a fine job on the old standard. I never get tired of listening to Ray Charles and I loved his bluesy jazzy performance of “Cry Me a River.” Doris Day thrilled me with the tender, intimate vocal style on “It’s Been a Long, Long Time.“ When I was young and watching her movies, I thought of Doris Day primarily as an actress in romantic comedies. It was only after I matured that I discovered her wealth of fine recordings that extends all the way back to the mid 40s. The last number, Chris Botti & Paula Cole doing “My One and Only Love,“ is six minutes in mewsic heaven! It’s the kind of tune you would have heard performed in the wee small hours (like 4 to 5 am) in a sophisticated big city nightclub.

Thank you very much for the Monday morning mewsic, dear friend Cathy, and have a safe and happy day!

    • Cathy Kennedy

Tom, Thank you for joining me on the dance floor this morning. I’m mobile today but thanks to technology I can stay in touch with my friends in Blogosphere.

The name Lenny Welch is new to me and I’m happy that you shared the mewsic video with me. His vocals are pure satin to the ears! That style never dies in my opinion.

You know I’m not sure which I knew Doris Day for first, her acting or singing but she was good at both. In recent years we’ve watched a few of her old films which was great fun. It’s always a joy to stumble on her mewsic.

Let me scat but I am doing well except I’m experiencing some cold-like symptoms which has thrown me a bit. Hopefully I’ll feel more like myself in a day or two. Have a good day, my friend & thanks for praying for Marie!
