Tickle Me Tuesdays

I'm not messin' with your head

I’m not messin’ with your head. To make up for no Friday Sillies I decided to share some giggles and mewsings from our weekend today.

Other than binge watching Fear the Walking Dead, I made some home-made treats. On Thursday, I took a stab at making a couple of loaves of French bread.  It didn’t turn out bad for my first attempt but I need to ask a good blogger friend who’s into baking how to improve and what I did wrong. I did snap a picture.

The bread had a good flavor but it was a little dry and more dense than what you’d buy from the grocery store.  As I said the taste was good, so I did a change up turning my French bread into garlic bread served with some marina sauce that I made. The sauce is a work-in-progress and I failed to take pictures of these two paired together. It made for a delicious snack while watching TV.

This reminds me of the time DS was little. He was beginning to count. He decided to demonstrate his learning in the presence of others as he counted my breast. Thankfully, he only counted two.

During the holidays I wanted to make some home-made marshmallows but ran short on time. The cold weather that moved in on us over the weekend was a signal that I needed to prepare for conditions that’s purrfect for hot chocolate, so I made a batch of my marshmallows.

We wrapped our weekend up by watching the last of the play-off games. The first game was between two of our favorites this season, the Tennessee Titans and the Kansas City Chiefs. Naturally, we rooted for the Titans. By now, you may know that the Chiefs won the AFC division championship. That’ okay because the one thing we love about both teams is the quarterbacks’ and other team members Christian faith. The second game  paired the Packer and 49ers to go head-to-head in the NFC division match up.  I knew who I was going to cheer on in this one and as I watched the camera pan across the players, I noticed many of the Packers did not cover their heart during the National Anthem. How disappointing. I rallied behind the 49ers with a great enthusiasm with the hopes they’d win and it was San Francisco’s game with a 37 to 20 victory in the end.

Congratulations to the Chiefs and 49ers for winning their division championship, next stop the granddaddy of all football games, Super Bowl LIV!

Now let’s get back to some giggles. Have you seen the Head and Shoulders TV ad with Patrick Mahomes and former Pittsburgh Steelers  Troy Polamalu? Generally I ignore commercials but one Sunday recently while watching football this one aired getting my attention and it cracked me up!

I should’ve known a cat was responsible.

It’s time to grab a cup of coffee and follow along with me as I head off to visit Sandee for some Happy Tuesdays giggles at Comedy-Plus, then I’ll check out Random Tuesday Thoughts with Stacy Uncorked, and finishing up with the latest beans in the Tuesday Chatter community with Eugenia at BrewNSpew.

Allow me if I might be so humble to showcase a new poem I penned using Eugenia’s last week’s prompt, laughter.  Yep, I’m a little late but you know what they say about that now, don’t you? 🙂

No doubt the artwork looks familiar to some. I reinvented my  2017 pencil sketch using Procreate to add color along with my Laughter poem.

That’s a wrap for now but come back tomorrow for Wild Wednesdays where just about anything goes! 😉

X💋X💋, Cathy

Awww, so this is what becomes of those countless single socks!

Hi Cathy 🙂 I had to check out your bread photo, it does look good! Do you actually measure the temperature of your warm water? I admit I never do. I know a lot of folks measure internal temperature of bread, but that’s never been something I’ve done before. I know when I make my Ciabatta bread, as Paul mentioned, I put a dish of water on the bottom shelf to make that crispy crust.

Now, this is just fun, Cathy! Love your enhanced sketch. And thanks for the mention, Cathy. Also, just an fyi – Tuesday Chatter and BrewNSpew has changed to Eugi’s Causerie. 😘

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Eugenia,

I did notice the change but it just didn’t register so does this mean Tuesday Chatter is now replaced with the weekly prompts on Monday? I’ll get this fixed asap. Thanks for pointing it out to me.

      • -Eugenia

No problem, Cathy. It can be confusing. Under the blog name BrewNSpew, I started Tuesday Chatter in 2016. Then in 2018 changed it to BrewNSpew Cafe.

I felt I needed a major change and changed the name of my blog to Eugi’s Causerie. My weekly word prompt is on Monday. I hope this helps. 😉

          Eugenia,

I understand how one’s blog evolves. I’ve done this many times over the year, mostly with the layout and theme but I think I’m comfortable with it finally…well, at least for now anyhow. 🙂 Thanks for the clarification.

It’s so much fun to come here and read! It’s been years, but i have made homemade French bread. Marshmallows would be beyond me, i’m afraid. Yours look so good, and your bread looks like it did taste wonderful.

Now that is the real story of Humpty Dumpty! Your bread looks good as do your marshmellows. I have no clue about sports but I do love those commercials because that guy made more than one. I think most mean would love 3 boobs and i am not talking Larry, Moe or Curly. Love the poem!

  • Debbie D.

Cathy, your posts are always chock full of fun and interesting stuff. 🙂 The marshmallows look delicious! I applaud your culinary skills. 👏👏👏 Although not a football fan, I enjoyed the commercial. That Troy sure has a gorgeous head of hair! Your poem and illustration made me smile. That’s a good thing, on a dreary, January day. 😀

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Debbie,

Troy sure does have the hair. 🙂 The sun made an appearance today but it’s chilly here in the Tennessee Valley. We’re expected to reach 37º for a high and dropping the upper teens tonight. We’re hoping improved conditions tomorrow with a slight raise in temperature but cloudy skies. I don’t like the cold but I know it’ll be brief in comparison to a Canadian winter. You’re such a flatter you know? Culinary skills, oh I like that! 🙂 Thanks for visiting today, my dear.

Loved all the funnies and that video cracked me up. Not seen that before.

Love your poem and your artwork. As always.

Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Love and hugs. ♥

“Bread Alone” tells the story of how Daniel Leader came to start his own bakery in the U.S. after seeking out Basil Kamir and the boulangerie Moulin de la Vierge in the 14th Arrondissement of Paris. The tale of how Basil Kamir, who had been a rock band promoter, came to lead the baking renaissance in Paris is a great story, complete with drama as only the French can create drama.

I enjoyed the Tuesday Tickles! 👍😂

Cathy, it appears to me from the photos that the bread over-proofed. Did you use 2 risings? Internal temperature of the dough during primary proofing should be 72º or slightly less. Proofing temperature should be under 85º at the 2nd proofing. Proof, punch down, shape, 2nd proof; make the slashes in the loaves just immediately before they go into the oven.
Spray the loaves with a mist of water just before putting them in the oven. Put a pan (like a cake pan) of water under the loaves in the oven. Spray 1 or 2 more times as the loaves bake. This will help give you a nice crunchy crust.

What I see from the photos is that the dough proofed too fast and at too high a temperature, the yeast died and the result was a tough crust (as opposed to the desired crunchy crust) and the crumb came out gummy. (Everything that isn’t crust is crumb.)

If you want to make some really superb breads, seek out Daniel Leader’s “Bread Alone”. This book will teach you how to make your own starter and how to craft artisan bread. 😊

      Paul,

You sound like you know a lot more about bread making than I do. Biscuits I’ve aced yeast breads nope, no where near that stage. In fact, I rarely make it. This is the French Bread recipe that I used. I followed it to the letter. Can you look at it and give me your opinion when time allows? I can tell you this, I did not check the internal temperature. My friend thinks perhaps I did not use enough water. Her recipes call for almost twice as much water as what this one said to use. The inside of the bread wasn’t crumbly. The outside was dry but I think what you’re seeing in the photo is cornmeal which was recommended. I will look at the book you mentioned to see if I can learn a thing or two from Daniel Leader. Thanks for the tips!

LOL! Great funnies, the singles socks is the best. Olivia is a sock thief at the moment, so Mom has lots of lonely socks! Our Vikings are out of the game, but we are so happy the 49ers smashed the Packers. Not only are the Packers are huge rival, they are nasty, and their QB is a real jerk, so we are happy they lost and lost big. Have a terrific day!

I like Aaron Rodgers. He’s a great quarterback but I was disappointed to see him just standing there during the National Anthem. Maybe a few seconds prior to the camera sweep he had his hand place respectfully over his heart. I don’t know but I think it’s important we demonstrate our loyal and love when someone sings our anthem. It’s going to be a good Super Bowl with two excellent teams in the big game!
