A-Z Challenge

#AprilA2Z Art Sketching through the Alphabet “L”

Hello, Kitten & Dawgs!  I’m delighted you joined me the newest edition in this series, Art Sketching Through the Alphabet. Today’s inspired prompt come from my love for lighthouses.

My regular readers know I love the Maine coastline for its rugged beauty and haunting lighthouses.  This is a fictional lighthouse I found on Pinterest. The original had a sandy beach and I changed mine to mimic Maine’s rocky coast.

Hopefully, what I share with you every day will encourage you to do something that interests you that you’ve long put off because like me you just don’t think you can. My advice is, just do it! Maybe, you’ll be surprised. I know I was! 🙂

I like sharing a bit humor each week with my edition Friday Sillies and since I’m challenging myself to purrfect my art ability I thought I’d share my sketch of a laughing cat inspired by this Google source.

Unlock this labyrinth in my mind of creativity! I’m looking for help with my “L” drawing list, lads and lassies. So, please leave yours in comments and if I use yours then I’ll give you credit!

I’m heading off to link up with other fellow AtoZers and you’re invited to come along.  I’ll see you on tomorrow for the next installment of Art Sketching through the Alphabet!

I’ve always found lighthouses fascinating and secretly hope to live in one someday. (We’re allowed to dream!) The cat is so cute! Had me smiling right away.

Tonja, of course we’re allowed to dream. I do a lot of that and if I couldn’t then I’d go insane. I’m not too far from that already, so please don’t take my dreams away! Thanks for popping over. I’ll see you soon!

The lighthouse always looks a bit lonely and yet…haunting. I watched a show once on how this one lighthouse had to be moved since it was too close to the edge after years of erosion. The cat made me laugh

      Eva,

I like lighthouses, too. There are two kinds of cat people – those who love ’em and those who don’t love ’em. 😀 Cats can be rather finicky, to say the least. Thanks for stopping by!

Lighthouses are one of my favorite things to draw. I am not sure why since I live in landlocked Saskatchewan. The laughing cat puts a smile on the face. Thank you for sharing.

Lori, we don’t have lighthouses in Tennessee but I sure to like ’em! I think a lot of folks are attracted to their haunting beauty for many reasons. Thanks for visiting!

  • XmasDolly

I don’t know why, but I expected a big ol’ lion today, but I love the laughing kitty instead!!! Fantastic! Happy almost Easter my friend… see ya tomorrow… lol big hugs…

Lighthouses are some of my favorite things to photograph. I have to say, though, the laughing kitty is just too cute!

    • Cathy Kennedy

Toni, I can’t wait to go back to Maine now that I have a big girl camera to photograph the lighthouses but for now I’ll just have to sketch them. 🙂

  • lexacain

I love the lighthouse. New England is such a beautiful place. The cat pic is adorable! Keep up the awesome work!

Jacqui, Yeah, Maine in the summer is best for me, too. I don’t think I can handle their winters which are much too harsh to suit this southern flower. 🙂 Thanks for visiting!

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy L-Day to you, dear friend! Perhaps we should greet each other with T-G-I-L. 🙂 Hey, this is the 14th, and that means there’s a band battle tomorrow morning. Don’t forgot!

You did it again, Cathy – two more great sketches. I love paintings that feature lighthouses, and yours looks proud and majestic standing there on the rocky cliffs of Maine. It reminds me of an oil painting my father made during the last years of his life. It was similar to this with a lighthouse as the primary feature. I have dad’s painting framed and hanging in a hallway.

Your whimsical laughing cat is a winner. I love how he is giggling because his belly is being tickled by the artist’s brush. Inspired by that color illustration, your monochromatic drawing seems perfect as it is, without color added, another piece of work suitable for framing or for illustrating a children’s book.

Once again, happy Friday to you, dear friend Cathy. I’ll be here early tomorrow to listen to your tunes and view your M sketches. Take care!

      Tom,

Thanks for visiting. Yesterday was DH’s off Friday, so we spent the day knocking around town. This is the first day off he’s actually felt like doing something other than staying at home. This eye surgery has taken its toll on him but getting out doing the little that we did wore him out. We may try to do a little thing out today and hopefully, I can keep him from tiring out too fast. I’m happy you liked my lighthouse sketch and I was rather pleased with how it turned out. This is a subject I hope to sketch again. The kitty was a lot of fun to draw and I’m delighted you enjoyed it, too. Our weather is really heating up with temps in the mid-80s yesterday and more of the same is expected today and tomorrow. Have a good weekend and I’ll be visiting you soon, my friend!

I always like lighthouse art. My sister collects prints and figurines that depict lighthouses. Lighthouses are so cool looking and dramatic.

      Lee,

Lighthouses are one of my favorite coastal attractions. I’d love to collect either or both lighthouse pictures or figurines. I have a small battery operated lighthouse my mother bought me years ago, a Dept 56 lighthouse building, and lighthouse rubberstamps. We have snapped shots of several lighthouses along the Maine coastline and it’s always great fun to look at these to relive our wonderful 2004 vacation. Thanks for visiting, my friend. I’ll be seeing you soon!
