Over the summer I spent a lot of time scanning old photographs from our family volume of albums. It’s a job I put off way too long but am happy to have nearly all of it done. Today’s photo set needed a bit of cleaning up. The scanning process picks up every trace of dust or deterioration from the prints.
During one of our darkest times which felt even more glum then this pandemic was DH’s long period of unemployment. One of things we tried was to build a home-based business. We had some success and in the midst of one our advancements we squeezed in a family vacation after the training seminar in Boston. Finances were tight but we still had loads of fun. Here’s a flashback of views from Thunder Hole in Acadia National Park. To enlarge the photos, just click on the image. 😉
We were in Mount Desert Island mid to late October. Our timing was purrfect! We witnessed some breathtaking waves while at Thunder Hole. We stayed well enough away from the action but managed to get some of the ocean spray on us at the elevated height from where I took these pictures with an old 35mm point n’ shoot camera. The wind was pretty gusty making for a chilly and exciting experience! Out of a bad situation we found joy in visiting the Maine coastline on a shoestring budget packed full of fun memories for a life time. 🙂
With Covid-19 still a threat, we don’t like mingling with the masses. It’s a chore to protect oneself from people who do stupid things all the time. This will all blow over, hopefully with our health not being compromised, so for now when we want to take in God’s country, we’ll scroll through our photo archives to soak up His creation!
Join my #WildWednesdays linky party where just about anything goes! The concept for this mid-week blog hop was conceived as I found myself moving farther away from photography and more toward art. Of course, that’s not what this party is about. You’re invited to share anything – artwork, DIY projects, photos, music, musings, randomness, recipes, and more!
I’m linking with these Wordless Wednesday Communities… Sandee, Natasha, Marie, & Wordless Wednesday! 😉
That wraps things up for now. Tomorrow I’ll have a new illustration to share for this week’s ‘ARCHITECTURE’ art prompt of Thursday Art Date with Rain. Have a wonderfully fun and WILD WEDNESDAY!

Wow! Amazing pics, Cathy! I’ve never been to Maine but would love to go there. I hear it is a beautiful state. Have a great remainder of the week! 😁
Wow, what a wonderful place and great pics. Very nice. Thanks for sharing it.
Looks like an amazing adventure, Cathy!
Love the fabulous photos!
It looks like a great adventure!
Mimi,
Oh, it was, it was!
Someone I work “with” (we live over 50 miles apart) visited southern Maine last week, and said she felt safe. But, yes, the covidiots. I haven’t been more than about 90 minutes from my house since this all started. I have never been to Acadia National Park, despite three trips in my life time to Maine. Enjoyed your pictures – all the fun without any of the cold or wetness.
Alana,
You’re going to have to do something about getting to Acadia. It’s a gorgeous place! We hope to take two weeks next year. Part of it, we want to spend in Vermont & New Hampshire and the other half in Maine. 🙂
Beautiful photos! I love to see the wildness of the sea. I live on the south coast where the sea is usually quieter, but living on a peninsula we are only 60 miles from the north coast where you can regularly see the sea in all it’s fury.
We also are keeping clear of the Covidiots. We live 5 miles from Dartmoor National Park. Although parts get a lot of tourists, it covers about 370 square miles so there are lots of places visitors don’t know of. In good weather we head out to one of those places and take a picnic with us. We know we are lucky to have sea and moorland close by, and also look out over a river.

It’s nice having the best of both worlds – ocean and mountains. Maine is like that and if we ever moved then I think I would consider moving there. Our youngest daughter moved up there two years ago and loves it but she also enjoys cold weather. That’s the only thing that causes me hesitation but despite that I’m beginning to lean that direction and am looking at real estate in southern Maine not too far from Portland. 🙂
Reminds me of La Bufadora in Baja California. The waves came up through a hole in the rock shelf that created a tall fountain-like spray. – Margy
Margy,
Oh that’s cool! I’d say that was quite awesome to see. We left Thunder Hole that day walking on cloud 9. It couldn’t have been any better had we planned it ourselves.
Those are amazing photos and such a beautiful place!
Great photos. Thanks for hosting. Have a wonderful day! XO
Ellen,
Thanks for popping by today. I’m glad you enjoyed the views of Thunder Hole.
Wow, what amazing shots. Wow. Mother Nature is most powerful.
Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. Love and hugs. ♥
Sandee,
Our timing was purrfect to see such a show as this! 🙂
Yes it was.
We visited Maine about ten years ago, but we did not make it to Acadia. Look at those waves! I didn’t realize how tame our Gulf waters are until I saw the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Beautiful photos.
Deb,
If you ever go back to Maine be sure to go to Acadia. It has some gorgeous scenery. I’m getting giddy just thinking about going back next year.
Great photos. They really show the power of the water which is nothing to mess with.
Absolutely! We went back in 2004 but Thunder Hole was more docile and went down where some of the people are in these photos. It was nice but nothing like as what we enjoyed this day in 1997.
Hi, Cathy!
Happy Wild and Almost Wordless Wednesday, dear friend!
How’s your papa today? I’m still praying that he will be AOK, out of that hospital bed and back home soon.
Mrs. Shady and I would love to visit Maine. That breathtaking spot called Thunder Hole in Acadia National Park looks like our type of experience. I read that the crashing waves make a thunderous roar as they hit the rocks, with the spray shooting some 40 feet upward. Only the stouthearted (or foolish) would go down those stairs and hang on to the railing at the bottom as those giant waves sweep in. Does your daughter in Maine ever visit that scenic rocky coastline?
Thank you for the family flashback story and the amazing pictures, dear friend Cathy. Enjoy your Wednesday!
Tom,
When the waves come in, you’re right it’s very thunderous sounding. It was so exciting to be apart of that experience. I hope when we go back we’ll have a similar encounter as this. Simply explosive and fun! I know DD#2 visited Acadia National Park when she and her ex-husband vacationed there in 2016 and I’m sure now that she’s been up there for two years she has found time to revisit. We hope to take a trip to New England next year around this time. I’m getting super charged!
