Thursday Art Date

Doodles, What’s cookin’?, and Thankfuls

Thanks for stopping by to take a peek at this week’s masterpieces (if only in my mind).  The hostess of the weekly art date is  Rain’s Kitchen & Garden.  Her prompt last Thursday was primary colors and this week it is folklore.

I pulled a design from my 2021 A2Z pencil sketches that I thought a red, yellow, and blue color scheme might work well with for my Procreate recreation.

In my humble opinion Rain has mastered the Looney Tune characters. She inspires me to give it my best every time, though.

I’m coming full circle so to speak with my next art redo. Waiting in the wing for color was my Headless Horsemen sketch I did for TAD in October 2020. This works well for Rain’s folklore theme today.

My mother’s birthday was Tuesday.  I used one of the Brushstrokes tulips drawings I shared in my last TAD post to make her birthday card.  I generated a pdf version of the document without the original verse inside (see below) and left it blank for anyone needing a feminine birthday card.

The mold God cast, He did break

Born on Wednesday

A child of woe

Compassionate

Understanding

A caregiver to all

A heart of gold

To oneself

Comes last

But today belongs to you

It’s your birthday

Have a blast

In the kitchen lately, I tried another crusty bread recipe I found online.  It claimed to be easy. Honestly it is, if you can read and follow instructions then you’re sure to have success.

My first loaf I baked 25 minutes, a bit blonde but done.
Second loaf I went 30 minutes more golden brown

Making home-made bread, especially when it’s yeast risen takes time, but it’s worth every minute of the wait.  It’s better than anything you can buy from a grocery store, more like restaurant quality and DH declared it the best French Bread ever.  It really is quite good.   Here is my recipe if you’re interested!

I used some of the bread slices to make my own Pepperoni French Bread pizza.  I brushed the crusty side with some Avocado oil and sprinkled garlic salt on top of the oil, then topped each slice with my home-made pizza sauce, pepperoni, mozzarella and parmesan cheeses.  In a 350º oven I heated the bread until the cheese was melted about 15 minutes.  Mmm, it was good!

I got the cheese a little too brown but it was still good.

Another item I made in the kitchen at DH’s request was Oreo Truffles.  This recipe or one very similar has crossed my eyes over the years. I really didn’t think this was something DH would like, but he messaged the recipe to me one while I was asleep so that I’d see it when I got up first thing.  This is what he does when he wakes in the middle of the night and can’t get sleepy, he looks at recipes. lol  I thought well, it grabbed his eye then I will make it for him.  I’m so very glad that I did, too.  The truffles turned out better than I expected.

I decided to go with the name Cookies n’ Cream Truffles. I colored some of the white melting chocolate light blue to use for decorative swirls and zig-zags across the top of each truffle.

This Thursday, I’m thankful my curiosity leads me to trying new recipes. The French Bread makes wonderful pepperoni pizza for a simple, easy dinner which gives me another thankful. I love simple and easy!

I’m thankful it feels like spring. The weather continues to have its highs and lows but overall I’m not complaining too much. I’m happy winter is now behind us for awhile.

I’m thankful for making the decision to not participate in this month annual blog fest. I really needed to do this just for me, no pressures or worries.

I’m thankful for our early family Easter dinner last weekend. It’s such a blessing to spend time with my children/grandchildren.

I’m thankful for our darling LA. Just look how cute she is holding a bunny her daddy brought home from work.

I’ll be back with Monday’s Music Moves Me where you’ll find me boogieing on the dance floor.  If you music to share or just a music lover then this is the party for you, so come join the fun. This is CAAC signing off,  have a doodletastic day! X💋, Cathy

My art inspired Internet digging lead me to The Headless Horsemen formed by two New York City garage bands the Fuzztones and the Tryfles in the 80s. The band recorded their debut album, Can’t Help But Shake in 1987 and this track is featured on it.

I don’t know where to start, maybe DEVOURING that pizza and bread???? Oh yes, it’s totally worth the wait when making your own bread, yours looks fantastic!!! I was so happy to see Tweety Bird!!! ☺ And the Headless Horseman, amazing. This was a great post Cathy thank you! Made me smile wide!! ☺

I am smiling before I even get here just knowing your posts are going to be upbeat. I love your art and your Tweety is just fine. Yes, I know, Rain has Looney Toons down pat, but I am about to attempt a bugs bunny for next week’s prompt so I am glad you beat me to it. I admire anyone who can find the time to do from scratch cooking. I don’t know if I am just totally disorganized or if I am really so busy, but I don’t do ‘Home Made” any more because I never seem to have the time. Am I jealous? Yes, and on top of that, your food looks so I good (especially the Cookies and Cream Truffles) that I would like to invite myself over for a taste … and I don’t even know where you live :0 Your darling LA is adorable and bless her gentle little heart as she holds the bunny with love. You do indeed have much to be thankful for, Cathy … Happy Spring and Happy Easter to you …

      Andrea,

You’re so very sweet. I’m happy my sunny disposition is felt in my posts. It’s hard to fit cooking/baking from scratch if you already have a full plate. There are times when I can’t spend time in the kitchen like I want but I know they’ll be other days for me to work it in. I missed doing a lot of this for many reasons over the years. While I’m healthy and have the energy I want to give this part of my life as much attention as possible. I know there will come a day when I probably won’t feel up to it. I saw that in my late MIL. She loved cooking and baking and she was good at it, too. LA is a precious little girl and she look super adorable holding that bunny. Thanks for dropping in for a visit, my dear! Happy Easter to you, as well!!

Cathy, the art is great and the bread looks delicious. Maybe even more so because I am on a diet😁. I’ve never heard of the Headless Horsemen before. Hope you have a happy Easter!

        Cynthia,

Everything always sounds and looks better when you’re on a diet. lol The Headless Horsemen were new to me. It’s making new discoveries in the music world. 🙂 Thanks fr visiting!

      Brian,

Your dad bakes? That’s cool! DH likes to reading recipes then if he likes it, he’ll pass them to me. That’s his way of hinting for me to make it. lol I’m always happy to oblige, too. Thanks for visiting, my furriend!

What a beautiful post. I love all the food and your bread looks amazing. A little butter and I’m in heaven. I love foodie posts. This is a great one.

Aw on the little one. What a cutie pie and I think she loves that bunny.

Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

    Hi, Cathy!

I have come to keep our Thursday Art Date With Rain, dear friend!

Awww… I just wanna smooch cute little Tweety bird, brought back from your A to Z In Living Color. The bright primary colors work well for this particular Looney Tunes character, cloaked as she is in yellow fuzz. I also love what you did with your sketch of the Headless Horseman. Bright orange pumpkins make Halloween festive fun.

That’s a wonderful poem you wrote as a tribute to your dear mother and used on her birthday card. I am sure your kindness brought a tear to her eye and I hope she had a happy birthday.

I’ll bet DH’s eyes rolled back in his head when he smelled and then tasted that homemade French bread! My mouth is watering something fierce and I’m pawing the screen trying to get my hands on a loaf! I will show Mrs. Shady your recipe and also have her examine the pic of your Pepperoni French Bread pizza hoping she’ll take the hint that I’m “hangry” for some. And don’t get me started on those Oreo Truffles! I could eat a dozen of them while drinking my black coffee this morning. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. DH is a very lucky man to have a wife who is a great cook and, on top of that, has a pleasing, cheery disposition. That’s a rare combination in my experience.

Unless I am mistaken, this is the first picture I ever saw of LA. She’s a beautiful child. Bless her heart! I hope she has a delightful Easter and takes good care of her bunny.

What an exciting discovery to hear a song by a band called The Headless Horsemen! I read that Elan Portnoy played guitar for the NYC-based retro 60s style psychedelic garage rock/fuzz-rock band. I like their sound!

I’m happy you discovered that the sun still comes up in the morning even without you participating in the A to Z Challenge. Meanwhile, over at Shady’s Place, I am currently running my once a year parody salute to the A to Z and I hope you can stop over and play along. I wish you and your family a happy and peaceful Easter, dear friend Cathy!

      Tom,

My dear friend, thank you for your faithfulness to visit every time I publish new content. Foodie entries always make me want what I’m seeing. I have quite the collection of recipes saved mostly from blogs I’ve visited over the years. I hope Mrs Shady takes your hints to heart. 😉 I have shared photos of LA but it’s been a long time. She’s a beautiful child and I love her dearly, but am a protective of her identity a wee bit. You don’t know who’s trolling the Internet. I often worry about her face being placed on FB. This sort of thing was never a concern when we raised our kids but the world has changed a lot. DH is totally appreciative of the goodies produced in my kitchen. He won’t thank me too much when he has to loosen his belt a notch. lol I mentioned to DH just last night that I’m not missing the A2Z challenge. Honestly, I thought it would nag at me but it’s not so I’m very grateful for that. It’s always a pleasure when you come to call. I dropped by your place earlier today, actually i was about the time you left this comment, checking out your latest post. Have a blessed Easter weekend with your lovely wife and family!
