Monday's Music Moves Me

When I’m fragile

Awww Mondays hosted by Comedy Plus

How was your weekend?  Ours was great! We spent Saturday with our son and his wife shopping for baby things.  The wind was so stout it nearly carried me off to Oz.  I’m glad the temperature was warm to off set the strong wind which could’ve made for a not-so fun experience.  In case you wondering,  I’m skipping the A to Z Challenge this month.  I hinted at the possibility of my participation, but in the end I needed to do what’s best for my sanity.  Anyway, it’s Monday and Mondays means music, so welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me!  This week’s theme is songs that express fragile emotions yours or another.

What makes you feel vulnerable (fragile)?  A broken heart, being alone, sickness, suicidal thoughts, death, something else?  I’m sure we can all relate to most if not all of the possibilities I mentioned.  Still fresh in my mind is the fragile condition I was in, physically and mentally after being hospitalized twice within two weeks almost a decade ago which led to surgery. Being unwell, I mean seriously sick makes you question your mortality.  I know where I’m going when I die but the thought of leaving those you love can shake anyone. I’m healthy as a horse these days so such things are far away from my thoughts.   Out of painful situations, songwriters gift to us a way to self-heal using the power of music, the perfect prescription to mend the heart and lift one’s mood.   Hit play to free your mind!

Evanescence Going Under was a follow up to the band’s 2003 first hit single ranking #5, Bring Me To Life. Unfortunately, the song didn’t gain quite the popularity needed to hit the Hot 100 list.  Amy Lee co-wrote the song with her bandmates.  It’s a story about a woman coming out of a bad relationship and is at the end of her rope.  I don’t have experience with bad relationships but I do know that feeling of being at the end of my rope.

Beatles While My Guitar Gently Weeps, written by George Harrison in 1968, never charted but quite popular on classic rock radio.  I think it was a cover of this old song that I remember best but the original is an enduring Beatles song that I since have grown to love.  Harrison penned the lyrics as an inspired Chinese I Ding writing exercise in randomness.  The song basically tells of George’s sadness for the world of its unrealized potential for universal love as mentioned in the song as “the love there that’s sleeping”. I think you’d have to be a zombie for this tender song’s melody and lyrics to not tug at your vulnerable side.

Post Malone Take What You Want with Ozzy Osbourne and Travis Scott is a new discovery released in October 2019.  The song refers to heart break. All three artists adding a bit of their story to the song how their girl’s abuse hurt them.  Take What You Want debuted number 8 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart making this Osbourne’s first Top 10 hit in 30 years. Anyone whose gone through a break-up understands the feelings of an exposed, raw heartache.

Stevie Nicks wrote Landslide in 1974 inspired by events in her life.  The song is about the fear of life changing suddenly.  Nicks recorded the song  after joining Fleetwood Mac.  Landslide is an excellent way to describe how one feels when its out of his/her control.  You just can’t stop it from happening.  When you’re powerless in a situation, you’re defenseless in what comes at you.

Former REM band member, Barry wrote Everybody Hurts for those who felt there is no hope as anti-suicide song.  I can relate to the pain of this song but never to the degree to inflict self harm because deep within it is hope Jesus that keeps me hanging on. I pray that others can see and follow the light Jesus offers through those darkened times.

Glen Campbell I’m Not Gonna Miss You co-wrote this song in the early stages of Alzheimers. It’s with his wife of thirty years in mind that he penned these words. “I’m never gonna hold you like I did / Or say I love you to the kids / You’re never gonna see it in my eyes / It’s not gonna hurt me when you cry / I’m not gonna miss you.”   This is a difficult thing to think about.  How many of us will find ourselves in Campbell’s shoes in years to come? One’s health is a fragile thing.  Take care of yourself.  Let’s live everyday like it’s our last creating loving memories for those who’ll mourn our loss.

Plumb was inspired to wrote, Need You Now (How Many Times) about the difficult years in her marriage and Need You Now brought to mind her battle with anxiety attacks from her teen years.  I totally connected with her pleas to God.  I remember years ago when that’s all I knew to pray, I need You now, whatever the crisis. God calmed my worries.  Things didn’t get immediately better.  I knew each day was a work-in-progress til my prayers were answered.

This is a music link up.  Your 4M party hostess are now featured in my right side menu near the top. Every other week we have a suggested music theme to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our music enthusiasts.  Themes aren’t mandatory to gain access to the dance floor but failure to meet the basic guideline (post must contain music) puts your URL in danger of being labeled – NO MUSIC.

Last week I missed Ellen’s Friendly Fill-in statements, so I’m doubling up today to share both sets.

March 24 statements:

1. My favorite character from a film, tv or book is Hanna Marin from the series Pretty Little Liars.

2. The one word I would use to describe myself is cheerful.

3. If I had to give you my best piece of advice, I would tell you don’t let stress make you feel overwhelmed or tramped.  It’s okay to step away from certain circumstances to alleviate those times and for things out of your hand, have faith things will improve.

4. A man of worldly riches will never compare with my sweet DH.

March 29 statements:

1. Season 2 of Gene Simmons Family Jewels down , and five more seasons to go.

2. It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt.

3. By some miracle, I find our dream house this year then this will make this happy girl even happier.

4. Unless I’m sick, I rarely rest during the day.

Tomorrow is my mom’s birthday.  She doesn’t read my blog but still I want to say, Happy Birthday to the prettiest lady I know and I hope your day is just as special as you are to me. 🫶 😘

My Apr. 1st BOTB launched this past Saturday for anyone interested. You’ll find the link in my side menu under Current Headline News.  I’ll be back on Thursday for Rain’s art date.  Thanks for dancing with me today!  This is CAAC signing off,  have a boogietastic day.  X💋X💋, Cathy

    Hello Darling,

First of all Happy Birthday to Mom. May she be bestowed with great health, peace, love and laughter always.

Yes, for me personally it’s sickness that makes me fragile too. Else I’m quite the happy bunny. Mostly, I say. 🙂

Love you choice of music, and all the words you share here with us.
Bless you and Sandee for taking such good care of Marie always. xoxox

Have a brilliant week ahead! Happy Easter sweet sunshine.

Welcome to the party this week, Natasha! I’m always delighted when you can join and so do appreciate your comments. Sandee is the real hero helping Marie. She’s done a marvelous job getting her to this point. Hopefully in no time she’ll be back to co-hosting full time again. 😉

I can finally sign into WordPress blogs, yay! The dog and cat video were so sweet. Now, if I could get a dog like that to carry all my things, I’d be all set. You had some great song picks, too. I listened to them outdoors on y laptop and my backyard birds all approved, too. Alana ramblinwitham

      Alana,

I’m sorry to read you had issues signing into WP. These blogs can be contrary, can’t they? It actually could be updates elsewhere causing difficulties. Technology can cause such headaches at times. Thanks for letting me know you enjoyed the song picks and from outside. Today it feels like summer. Currently our temperature reads 86.9º. That’s really too warm for early April. We’ll get this bouncy thing for awhile until it settles into total miserable hot, hot weather until late September. lol

Ck, we want a doggie like that sweet one, looks he has it all under his paws😸 Great selection for the Theme, we love REM and the song from Glen Campbell, that touched us straight to the heart as we didn’t know this song yet. Great answers on the fill-ins too. We cross our paws for you on your dream house🐾🐾 Double Pawkisses for a Happy Day💞😸🐾

      Granny & kitties,

Glen Campbell’s song is something we all can relate to. The only close relative that comes to mind with Alzheimers was DH’s grandpa. My grandma had dementia. In both cases, we weren’t around enough to truly see the affects of these age diseases. It’s sad to think that one of us could be like Glen when we’re older and are always thinking about properly supplementation to keep from being a victim of such things. Thanks for visiting and joining the party, furriends!

  • Nicole/DVArtist

Wonderful song selection. I am so happy your are healthy and all that is in the past. What makes me fragile? The loss of family. Everything else I can deal with good or bad. How fun to go baby shopping. Have a really nice day today.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Eugenia,

Thanks, I hope so. It’s such a downier with the way things are in the housing market. The surge to buy and now inflation chocking us to death, I can only hope things turn around. These things cause us to be even more cautious than normal. No snap decision definitely off limits!

  • 15andmeowing

Nice song choices. Thank you for participating in the fill-ins. I enjoyed all your answers. Great advice and I hope you get your dream house this year. XO

      • Cathy Kennedy

        Birgit,

This is the only comment to come through. I’m delighted you enjoyed the songs and joined the party. German Shepherd are smart animals but I think dogs in general are.

  • messymimi's meanderings

Anya is precious, thank you for posting that.

Fragile is watching your parents, the ones you thought so strong and invincible, age and need your help. That’s where we are now.

I wish your mother many, many happy and healthy returns of the day!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Mimi,

Absolutely fragile is watching your parents became weak and frail in their later years. Today, April 4th my mom celebrates her 78th birthday. She has medical concerns but she keeps doing what she can. It’s frustrating for her to not be able to move like she used to. Daddy is the same way. It’s worrisome. Although, my sister isn’t in the best health I’m thankful that she lives with them and my niece and her family live almost next door.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Brian,

We did have fun shopping for our grandson on the way. They already have a lot of things given to them by friends and her sister, which is great. Babies grow out of clothing faster than you can blink an eye. We got a car seat that grows with the child. That’s really nice. I don’t remember if they had such things when our kids were small. I do remember at one time we had two car sets and a booster set in the back seat. 🙂 Things were expensive then but now WOW! It’s crazy how inflation drives the cost of everything up. We do what we can.

  • Sandee

I love that smart pup. A huge Awww.

Love your videos. You always do these so very well.

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy paw-some 4M Monday, dear friend! I hope you and DH had a nice weekend.

Awww… that is a remarkable video, and Anya is truly an amazing animal. You can see kindness and intelligence in the eyes of the family’s German Shepherd, and I can’t believe all the household chores she loves to perform. Anya helped the rescued kitten adjust to a new life. It is heartwarming to see the kitty come out of her shell over time, learn to trust and have fun playing with her new forever friend Anya. Thanks for posting that uplifting video, Cathy!

I’ve been reading about the brisk winds in your area and in other states. If not for the warm temperature, it might have reminded you of standing along with rocky shore in Maine.

I enjoyed your song set about emotions. When it comes to romantic ballads that convey emotion, few singers can match Julio Iglesias. Yessum, I believe we feel fragile and vulnerable when we are struggling with a prolonged illness. When our health is restored, life seems even better than before, because we are so thankful for normalcy. At least, that has been my experience.

Songs by Little Rock rock queen Amy Lee and her band are covered by many of today’s up-and-coming music acts. I can hardly believe their classic “Going Under” failed to reach the Hot 100. George Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” is one of the greatest Beatles songs and a favorite of mine. The video you posted appears to be the one produced in 2016 for the 10th anniversary re-staging of Cirque du Soleil’s Love theatrical production. The collaboration of Syracuse rapper Post Malone and rock icon Ozzy Osbourne is new to my ears this morning and I enjoyed it. I see that “Take What You Want” was released as a single in late 2019 and made the top 10 in the U.S. and Canada. Stevie Nicks has one of the most distinctive singing voices in the business and I enjoyed her performance of “Landslide.”

I remember Glen Campbell writing and recording this song as he was on the verge of losing his mind to that dreaded disease. It is emotionally wrenching to see the home movies of Glenn and his beautiful wife and family. Accompanied by The Wrecking Crew, Glen’s “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” was his final recording, produced in early 2013 and released in the fall of 2014 less than three years before his death. The single fell just short of the top 20 on the Country chart and was nominated for Best Original Song at the Academy Awards.

In addition to Amy Lee, your song block includes another midwest rock artist named Lee. This is the first time I am hearing anything by Indianapolis alternative rock and Christian rock singer Tiffany Lee aka Plumb, and I love her vocal style which ranges from soft and intimate to powerful and soaring.

I also enjoyed your Friendly Fill-ins. I appreciate a cheerful person like you, and don’t encounter very many of them in recent years. It also amazes me to realize that you never experienced a bad relationship because you found your Prince Charming, DH, early on and stuck with him. Yours is a beautiful storybook romance.

Happy birthday to your dear mother! She gave us a gift that keeps on giving – you. Thanks for the combination of musical memories and introductions this morning, dear friend Cathy. I’ll be back Thursday to keep our Art Date With Rain. In the meantime, I have a new post running and hope you can stop by. Have a super week!
