Monday's Music Moves Me

Dancing to Kim Carnes’ Music

Awww Mondays Hosted by Sandee at Comedy Plus

This week’s theme is whatever music moves you which is a great opportunity to continue with the process of absorbing posts previously published on a now private WP blog I created here on CAAC. I will eventually permanently delete that site to minimize confusion.

I was recently reminded how much I liked the 80s sound of Kim Carnes but after our first daughter’s birth I lost touch of what happened to Carnes and other super stars from that decade.

1982 Voyeur album song tracks: 1. Voyeur  2. Looker  3. Say You Don’t Know Me  4. Does It Make You Remember  5. Breakin’ Away From Sanity  6. Undertow  7. Merc Man  8. The Arrangement  9. Thrill of the Grill 10. Take It On the Chin

Moving this post over to CAAC, I thought I’d check out Kim’s YT channel for new-to-me discoveries.  The above album and her other original 80s releases were reissued in 2012.   Her last album recorded was in 2004, Chasin’ Wild Trains.

Don’t be fooled thinking Carnes hasn’t been active in the music industry.  She’s has written and recorded songs for movie soundtracks for these films, The Contender (2000) with Jeff Bridges “Ring of Fire”, Loggerheads (2005) “The Silver Cord”,  and Chances: The Women of Magdalene (2006) “It’s a Mighty Hand”. She’s recorded songs for various other sources and the last performance I noted on Wiki was in 2021 for the online concert, Rheneypalooza Jam, to raise money for St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital in Memphis.

In my limited research, I’m always a little marveled when I find a talent from my young adults years whose the age of my parents.  She and my mom share the same birth year.  Carnes will celebrate her 78th birthday this week.

May you have many more! 👏

This is a music link up.  Hence, your post must contain music (at least one song) or your URL is marked “No Music”. The party co-hostess are now featured in my right side bar underneath the 4M banner. The guidelines are simple.  Every other week, a suggested (not mandatory) theme is given to build your song picks. YouTube and other music sites have options to create and embed playlists or individual songs into your post. On the off weeks, we dance to whatever music moves you – your choice. Finally, to access the dance party, just add your music post below, and visit others on the floor. Let the party begin!

All weekly themes for the rest of the year are now filled but if you’d like to nudge one of my suggestions out, then pitch your ideas for consideration. 😉  Of course, you can get a head of the game by throwing some fresh themes for 2024.  It will be here before we know it. This is CAAC signing off,  have a boogietasticweek!  X💋X💋, Cathy

Carnes has such a distinctive voice. I’m surprised the only song I knew wasn’t even in your line-up 😉 Loved the Betty Davis quote.
Sorry I’m so late coming by, but I knew when I saw this last week I’d have to make it back to listen and comment so I tried to hurry ongoing projects along. “Breaking away from sanity” kind of resonates 😉

      Diedre,

I’m glad you found a little break to stop by to listen to the music. It’s difficult to stay on top of visits in Blogosphere. I barely am able to do it. I’m pretty sure the rest of the year I won’t be adding too much in the way of extra content other than what I’ve been running since I began my so-called “semi-blogging hiatus”. Have a boogietastic week, my dear!

I never heard of Kim Carnes. hit, I think I have heard her before but did not know her name. I do like her voice. Thank you for introducing her to me.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Debbie,

I had no clue Kim was that much older than me. I just never thought about things like this when I was in my early 20s but looking back I now I realize this true of most entertainment figures I loved then and still do are the same age as my parents. Had I know this at the time, I’d think that was really weird. lol

  • Create With Joy

I am a Kim Carnes fan too – “she’s got Bette Davis eyes!”
Sorry about my butterfingers – accidentally linked up the wrong link so added the correct one in . Have a great week and thanks for hosting!

She has a relaxig voice. I know that because halfway thru the first song of the second album I fetll asleep and didn’t wake up until song #6… She can sing me to sleep anytime…

  • Sandee

Awww on that cute pup. I love pups and kitties.

I’ve not heard her for such a long time. Beautiful.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Love and hugs. ♥

Oh yeah, there’s a little Stevie Nicks in Kim. It’s interesting in her first album her voice isn’t nearly as gravelly sounding as it is now or when she first perked my ears with Bette Davis Eyes. I’m really glad I went in search of what became of her.

I loved Bette Davis Eyes when it came out. And did you know she was one of the soloists in the original recording of We Are the World.

Thanks for sharing her music with us,

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Hey Eugi,

Yeah Bette Davis Eyes is the song I think of when I think of her, too. She has quite the library and I’m enjoying going through it.

    • Birgit Bedesky

I’m sorry but…what? She’s 78?! Wow…that’s just not right. This means I’m older and that can’t be. She had an interesting voice that worked.i love the Davis quote which rings perfect since Kim was most famous for her Betty Davis Eyes song.

      • Cathy Kennedy

        Birgit,

All this time I was thinking you are a couple of years younger than me. Where did I get it? lol Age is a number, we’re only as old as we let ourselves feel, right?

  • Marie Moody

Okay honey, all signed in. I’m in WordPress for today, but I’m going to stop bothering Sandee to move me every other week… that’s the only time WordPress let’s me do what I want otherwise it’s in wordpress as mine is in today. The link is there, so we’re cool! Love you girlfriend and have a great day! YOU ROCK! Love this gal’s tunes especially to dance too (well, when I use to dance hahahaha) have a great day!!!!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Marie,

I hate to tell you but the link you used doesn’t work. The site Sandee helps you with is xmasdollyisback dot com. The site you linked up, mydollyorg, does not work. See the difference? I’m sorry! Just keep at it, you’ll get it!!

  • Arlee Bird

I never really kept up with Kim Carnes but couldn’t help but hearing her songs played frequently on the radio and elsewhere. She was good. She has had a long career.

Hope you’ll check out my Battle of the Bands that features another artist that was prominent in the eighties.

    Lee

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Lee,

Kim Carnes didn’t get a lot of air time in the 80s. After I left work, I don’t anything. I was glad to learn that she’s stayed active with her career and she lives in Nashville. It’s amazing all the celebrities who make middle Tennessee their home. Thanks for dropping by, my friend!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Brian,

I think everyone from that era loved her. I hope the younger generations get plugged into our sound from yesterday and today. She has some really good stuff! Thanks for stopping by, furriend!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Mimi,

She’s a talented artist that goes beyond the 80s. I enjoy all of her music but Chasin’ Wild Trains ablum in today’s line up I enjoy more and more each time I listen to it. Thanks for visiting, my dear!

  • Alana Mautone

I’ve always loved Kim’s voice in Bette Davis Eyes. I enjoyed almost all of the songs in the first album. Voyeur sounded familiar – I didn’t know any of the other songs. Nor could I believe she was now 78. Time flies. Alana ramblinwitham

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Alana,

Probably the reason Voyeur sounds familiar is because I had it on the temporary WP site I set up to help Marie learn the ropes. It’s hard to believe she’ll be 78 this week. The years really get away from you. She’s only 16 years older than me just like my mom is, she and I grew up together. I can’t imagine being a mommy at 16, can you? Thanks for joining me on the dance floor, my dear!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Erin,

I bet you just forgot Kim Carnes is all. This is probably her most recognizable song from the 80s.

      Any bells ringing now?

Thanks for stopping by for a visit and mewsic!

    • Cathy Kennedy

I think we all forgot just how good Kim Carnes was and still is. That’s the beauty of blogging, we’re often reminded of these fantastic artists from others. Thanks for joining us on the dance floor, darlin’!
