X-tra, X-tra, Read all about it!

Meet Kim of HelKima Jewelry

Photo borrowed.

Today’s post was going to be a more in-depth article, but currently, Kim is in Argentina riding out Hurricane Sandy. But, I’m not going to be outdone by a super storm. So, I want to give you a brief introduction of sorts. Here goes….

Kim and I go way back to our youthful days in the hills of West Virginia. Isn’t she a lovely lady?  It’s clear with Kim’s beautiful smile things have changed little from our school years with that winning, outgoing personality that all the rest of us wanted.

Like many classmates do, Kim and I lost touch. A few years ago, just as I was beginning to take flight with all the social networking, she & I were re-acquainted.  God bless Mark Zuckerberg’s innovation for pulling off such a tremendous platform such as Facebook.

One day, while scrolling through my Facebook feed I was surprised to discover something interesting about Kim with one of her comments.  Naturally, I was enthralled to learn more, so I began reading. That’s when I found out my friend is a crafty little thing.

I’m not talking about the nickel and dime crafting, either. You know what I’m talking about, the stuff your Aunt Mabel makes for you at Christmas and you’re obligated to say, “Oh, how nice this is!” But, what you’re really thinking is, “Where do I hide it?” or “This is going in the trash!”

Kim’s crafting…well, let’s just say I found out she’s a bona fide jewelry designer. Move over Martha Stewart!  I do not wear much jewelry and my collection is modest at best. However, being the woman I am, I do like anything girlie. I admire stunning works of art in the form of female ornamentation – earrings, necklaces, or bracelets. One thing I like about HelKima Jewelry designs is it’s classy. Take a look….

Watch in the coming days for my interview with Kim. I know you’re gonna wanna get to know her and to learn about her jewelry crafting passion. Meanwhile, if you’re sold on her work already and no doubt you are, then you can get a price quote on your own one-of-a-kind design by HelKima Jewelry by sending your request to her on FB (see under “About” tab) for a personal design piece or you may leave your email in my comments along with your request. I’ll be sure she gets each one.

Hurricane Sandy has really caused more than a stir this week. This brings me to my T2Q:

1. Were you directly affected by the super storm? If so, how?

2. Have you ever been affected by a natural disaster?

Visit Miss Jenny and the rest of the Alphabe-Thursday classroom for more homework assignments of the letter ‘X’ and while you’re hopping around, be sure to play along with Miss Amanda in her latest edition of Thursday Two Questions.

Have a super Thursday!

She is lovely…and so are her talented designs.

I wonder how you get to like jewelry? I love looking at it, but I neve ever wear anything but my wedding ring. If I put something on, I end up fussing and fussing with it, take it off, and then often lose it.

We only get the heat here in AZ. These types of storms rarely effect us.

Our prayers and financial contributions continue to help the poor souls effected by this widespread catastrophe!

Thank you for linking and sharing your lovely friend’s Xcellent creations with us.

    A+

To answer your question – Yes, we were affected by a terrible ice storm disaster in 2009. We have been a part of some Disaster Relief teams, but are not free to help with the Sandy disaster right now, unless it’s just monetarily.

And the jewelry – truly unique. I like the purple beaded one best!

That is wonderful that you found your friend again and yes she is very talented!

    1 I wasn’t directly affected by Sandy…..just a bit cold weather.
    2. I have been in hurricanes before, but I was a child when the most destructive ones happened to my country.

    Aloha!

Ordinary Words…Jewelry looks wonderful…we did have a downpour in the 90s that lasted three days and we had to redo the flooded basement…FEMA helped us and our neighbors♫

We were not directly affected by Superstorm Sandy since we live in the West Coast, and no natural disaster has been in our area! We had dust storm and wildfire, but not directly affected by them!

Lovely jewelry — so nice that you got reconnected with your friend!

Growing up in Louisiana, we were too far inland to suffer much from the hurricanes that hit, but I do remember winds from a hurricane that knocked down a huge oak tree a couple of houses down from us. All us kids climbed on it until it was removed! Katrina didn’t directly affect me, except to see New Orleans in such devastation. I lived there after college and was sad to see the area where I had lived in ruins.

Your friend is very talented. I like those pieces, and I love jewelry.
    1. Were you directly affected by the super storm? If so, how?
No, I will have to check it out and see more of what has happened.
    2. Have you ever been affected by natural disaster?
Yes, many when I used to live in Louisiana. There were always hurricanes and flooding.

Beautiful designs! I especially like the interlocking chain necklace and the balanced asymmetry, which is something I’ve tried in some of my designs, but can’t quite pull it off. Some day, some way, I’ll find the path to balanced asymmetry!

Sandy affected me by way of family who live in New Jersey. I think they are still without power.

I lived in So Cali for years and while I experienced plenty of shake, rattle and roll, none of it was intense enough to disrupt life. We got out of there before Northridge decided to crack. But we were there for the riots (’92), which may not qualify as a natural disaster, unless one wants to believe that such behavior from mankind is “natural.”

Some very pretty, clever and gorgeous pieces. Thanks for sharing the link to her FB page.

YES! to your second question. Katrina wiped out much, or in some cases, all of what my family in New Orleans had. Three houses went totally missing!!! Fortunately, no one was hurt. But, in the days following Katrina, I had 9 more people and 1 more dog living in VA with me! My mom ended up staying with us permanently. My nieces family stayed in VA for 7 years, and only recently moved back to NO. Sister and nephew returned to NO shortly after the storm to begin the rebuilding process. So, even though I did not personally have Katrina knocking at my door, she sent 9 little visitors and 1 dog to visit – for a very very l o n g time!

She has some awesome pieces, I will be visiting her FB page to see more.

I haven’t posted my TTQ yet but while I’m here I’ll answer. Being on the West Coast we haven’t seen any affects from Sandy. There may be a few pieces of mail that arrive late but other than that nothing. I do hope everyone on the East Coast that was affected came through okay.

Yes, I have been in earthquakes, severe thunderstorms and have been in ash fall from volcanoes.
