Wordless Wednesday

Winter’s Day Spent Dreamin’ #WW

Welcome, Kittens & Dawgs! During the winter months, I generally prefer to stay indoors unless it’s a lovely sunny day.  There haven’t been too many of these opportunities since the holidays for venturing outdoors.  I hope in the coming weeks that this changes as DH’s new work schedule will allow us to have every other Friday together.

Luckily, I have lots and lots of archived photos to flip through. Many I’ve shared and then there are some that didn’t make the cut but have a potential for expressing my creative side through photo-editing.  This is what I’ve done today breathing new life in an ordinary photo with a short poem I penned for the occasion called Winter’s Day Spent Dreamin‘.

I snapped this photo in late winter 2011 with my Canon SD880 point n’ shoot on one of our day trips to the Blue Ridge Parkway roughly around the Graveyard Fields.  It was a gray, cloudy day which I enhanced with Pixelmator by converting it to a B&W image, bumping the contrast, and adding a bit of grain.

Let’s snuggle up with a piping hot beverage while we visit other photo enthusiasts today.

The newer POS cameras are wonderful. Lovely wintertime shots no matter if it’s gray. You did a masterful job and thanks for sharing your corner of the world.

Oh yes, the newer POS cameras are quite good. The one I used on this photo was given to me in 2009 for Christmas and it still does a fine job. Heck, a good smartphone camera does an excellent job! We each have iPhone5s, which do a fantastic job. In fact, when we’re out on our day trips DH solely uses his iPhone to snap photos and his shots turn out great. I use my big girl camera (Nikon D7000) and my iPhone most of the time. It’s nice to have my iPhone for those quick shots sometimes. Thanks for popping in for a visit!

Wow! Beautiful! I adore looking at Winter through great pictures like yours, I just don’t like living in it. I don’t get along well with cold. Sure is pretty, though, in pictures and your photos are fantastic!

Betty Sue, it’s an honor to have you visit. The only thing I like about cold winter weather is the warmth of my home. 🙂 I say bring on spring anytime! lol Thanks for popping by and I”ll be over to see you next! 😉

Love this edit… it’s perfect for the gray mood of winter. The poem is perfect for the image too. Wonderful that you have made it for yourself!! How many times do we see a lovely image with a quote and think – I wish I had done that!! And you have – marvelous!! I’ve started to make more of my own too – using my own photography, instead of searching for something else. I love the feeling that I can make my own art 🙂

Les, thank you! I agree it’s a good feeling to unleash those creative urges and to share with those in Blogosphere. You not only have the ability write beautifully but you have an excellent photographic eye. Do share your images with quotes. I’ll be looking forward to seeing what you put up! 😉

It’s always nice looking at wintry photos but being in it is a different storey haha!

We have had it quite cold in London the last week or so arrgh! but I do like the dark nights indoors so cosy.

Have a wintrytastic day Cathy 🙂

Steve, I’m happy we’re getting a bit of a break in the cold weather but that’ll change I’m sure. For now, I’m enjoying it! Thanks for stopping in, my friend!

I live in a warm climate, so I love going out in the snow, when it happens. But, to be fair, I also like staying in on rainy days. There is nothing better than sitting by the fire with a good book. Love how you put the poem and picture together. Seems like a good activity for a winter afternoon. 🙂

Mandy, The gray skies turned to blue today. It’s so nice to see the return of a cheery sunny day. I hope it stays with us but I think more rain pushes in later tonight. Have a good day and thanks for stopping by! 😉

How fun to put the poem with the photo. It’s even winter-y around here with your blog design! Hard to remember it’s winter some places when I’m in TX. We’ve still got weather in the 70s here.

Such beauty in winter! My favorite way to enjoy it is from indoors with something warm to drink, though.

Deb, lately our winter weather is quite mild but we have gray skies overhead most days, though. I love to see those sunny blue skies but usually, the temps are colder. For now, I’ll enjoy the spring-like temps and hazy days of winter. Thanks for stopping by, my friend! I’ll be by your place soon.

    Hi, Cathy!

I love what you did with that 2011 photo. The grainy, high contrast black & white editing conveys winter’s chill and your poem goes well with it. I also enjoyed the seasonal song “Winter in Me” by an artist new to me – Wisconsin singer/songwriter Skylar Grey. You and I share an appreciation of female vocalists with pure, clear voices and Skylar’s vocal instrument is very pleasing to my ears. It was fascinating to read that she doesn’t consider herself a very feminine person. I like the reason she (Holly Brook Hafermann) gave for picking the stage name Skylar Grey, stating that it “represents the unknowns in life. People seem to be afraid of the unknowns, but I’m the complete opposite. I dive into the unknown because I feel like that’s where all your possibilities come from.”

Thank you for the Wednesday morning entertainment, dear friend Cathy!

Tom, thank you for popping in this morning and for leaving such kind words like always. I appreciated the tidbits you shared about Skylar. Judging by her voice along I would think just the opposite of the way she considers herself – soft and feminine. Maybe, she’s more feminine than she wants to give herself credit because our society teaches a young woman to be equal to a man you gotta act like one. I stumbled upon Skylar several years ago while going through freebie mewsic at Amazon but for some reason, I can’t find that song in my music library and I don’t remember which of her songs I got now. Oh well…I guess I’m gonna have to dig a little deeper in her mewsic collections to see what else I might like. Who knows, maybe I’ll do a Saturday feature. 🙂 Have a great day, my friend!
