Wordless Wednesday

Views from my window…well, almost #WW

Life behind the lens hasn’t happened a whole lot in the last few years nor have many opportunities jumped at me to pull out my iPhone to capture.  It’s disheartening, to say the least, but this phase will pass with new adventures on the loom (I’m confident).

While my big girl camera collects dust (not really, she’s snuggled in her bag) in place of photographs, I’ve shared my art sketches. Over the past few months when I see something that grabs my attention, I seized the chance to pull out my iPhone to freeze that moment.  Here are a few of those views from my window…well, almost.

A Sunday afternoon drive around town; view from Pansy Avenue & Richmond Hill
Panoramic view of the Smoky’s from Airport Toyota in Alcoa
House hunting in Maryville, TN passing the Foothills Mall I spy a small traveling carnival. I remembered these from my childhood in southern WV which was a huge treat for us to go.
More house hunting in Karns area of Knoxville. The field contained a dozen sheep mamas with their little lambs. There was no place to pull of safely so DH stopped for an instant and I got a quick short. Unfortunately, no little lambs are seen in my picture. 🙁 Better luck next time!

Scribble Picnic is taking a temporary (I hope) hiatus but from time to time I will continue to share my artwork here.  In case you haven’t heard, I started a spin-off with my A2Z Little Mermaid pencil drawings that I call ‘in living color’.  Last week, I presented a colorized Flounder.  This series won’t be hurried. I’m in it for the fun and when I’m having fun, then it shines through. Hopefully, it shows in my designs.

For the past two weeks, I have not used a linky code and I may continue to do without it through the summer months with Blogosphere traffic slowing down.

If you’re looking to boost your stats or just want to meet new bloggers, then please leave a breadcrumb (direct URL) to your post for others to find you easily.  The reason I say to do unless you’re 100% that your blog is linked to your profile then it gets frustrating for those who want to visit when they hit a dead end.

ABC Wednesday is nearing the alphabet again with the letter ‘U’ today and after April’s A2Z blogfest my brain is a bit taxed, but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying mewsic.  I mean, who can’t get into some tunes each day?

I found a list of rock bands that start with the letter ‘U’ from which I decided to highlight just a few.

Ultravox ~ At first I thought this band was new2me but after listening to some of their songs I think someone introduced them to me through one of my blog mewsic venues. Wikipedia leaves me to believe the band’s success is primarily in the UK. The band’s most successful song is Vienna from 1981. Have you heard of this 70s British rock band?

The Underground Rebels is a new2me find. This band got started in Vancouver, B.C., in 1997 under the name The Loving Dead.  The group’s song “You” got a lot of rotation on western Canada radio stations. The title track from their CD, “Do It Again” was featured by the NHL team The Edmonton Oilers, when they scored a goal.  The hard rockers now call Orlando, Florida home and if you’d listen to some of their stuff, check out this Insult to Injury album YT playlist.

Unruly Child is an American hard rock band with seven studio albums. Can’t Go Home is their last to release in 2017.  I like the style but I’d rather no look at the lead singer.  Let’s just say his voice and appearance don’t match which messes up the head.  I found a YT mix playlist if you’re interested in sampling their stuff.

What ‘U’ bands outside of the rock genre can you name?   Come on now, don’t underestimate yourself, underscore a few ‘U’ song titles that come to mind or.  Don’t feel bad if you have to ask Google, I don’t think you’re unfaithful if you gotta. Lord knows I’ve done the same many times. 😉

Do you share mewsic on your blog? Would you like to boogie with me? If so, join me on the dance floor each week with Monday’s 🎶Mewsic🎶 Moves Me along with my fellow 4M co-hosts. Yep, that’s a shameless shoutout but when an opportunity presents itself then I say grab it and go!  😉

Have a blessed day and be sure to join me for giggles & more with Friday Fun Stuff!

      Mimi,

I love the Maryville area with the Smoky’s for a backdrop. It gives me the feeling that we’re right in the mountains without being in them. 🙂

  • yogiabb

I love your taste in music. I might have to consider the Music Moves Me in the future.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Alan,

Oh yeah, definitely come join the dance party on Mondays! Next time we boogie, the theme is ‘your choice song picks’ so that means anything goes. 🙂

      Brian,

I really don’t blame folks for sitting things out in Blogosphere when the weather turns nice. It’s far better to be outdoors than stuck inside in front of the computer. 😉

  • Sandee

Love all your photographs. I also love that video. We like the same kind of music.

Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. Love and hugs. ♥

      Sandee,

I’m glad to be apart of your WW community. You always share such interesting photos and have a great following who plays alone which is my kind of party. 🙂

  • Rain Frances

Hi Cathy 🙂 I thought about UB40 too! That was a song of my youth! Velvet Underground came to mind, but maybe that would be “V”? 🙂 Oh, my nice Canon is collecting dust too, I used to do so much photography! But I guess I got lazy with the cell phone camera…must fix that!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Rain,

It’s interesting how my interests have switched to art but I’m not complaining. I know in time I get back into photography on an active level again. I’ll just enjoy where my interests take me.

  • Ellen @ The Cynical Sailor

I used to listen to Ultravox when I was a teenager – which I guess dates me 🙂

I like the picture of the carnival. There was one set up in my town recently. Looked like a fun outing for families.

Lovely photos, Cathy. I agree with you – it’s really frustrating when you want to return a comment to the nice blogger who has visited your blog and you hit a dead end.

    Happy WW, Cathy!

      Veronica,

It is frustrating to not find your way to a blogger. I think people are in a hurry not realizing their profile isn’t connected to their active blog or fail to leave a direct link altogether. Hopefully, those serious about connecting with others will catch their mistake and try to fix it. Thanks for dropping by today!

      Patrick,

I can’t remember if I pointed this out to you but on your log-in info, you used ‘wordpress’ instead of blogspot in your blog address which leads folks astray. You may want to include a direct link in comments to allow others to follow you back to your active blog home. 🙂 Thanks for sharing the tidbits about Midge Ure lead singer of Ultravox which I did not know and ‘Dear God’ is an introduction. Thanks for sharing and for visiting today, my friend!

      Deb,

Best of luck to ya this summer. We’ll have more opportunities to get out as well but we have so many things to do around here that I’m sure our day trips will be fewer than we’d like.

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Almost Wordless ABC Wednesday, dear friend! I look forward to the return of Scribble Picnic so that I can see more of your art. In the meantime, I enjoyed riding along with you and DH and gazing at the sights around Eastern Tennessee through your car window. I wish some of those little lambs would have trotted over to pose for your camera.

The only U bands on that list that I knew were U2, Ugly Kid Joe and Ultravox. I enjoyed the heavy sound of Underground Rebels.

Debbie the Doglady beat me to it by mentioning U artists Uriah Heap and Undisputed Truth. I came up with a few more.

In 1988 the English reggae band UB40 had an international chart-topping hit with “Red Red Wine.” The mewsic video played often on the MTV station where I worked at the time:

The next two aren’t U bands. They are U solo artists. Leslie Uggams rose to fame on Sing Along With Mitch, a mewsical TV show that my parents and I watched every week in the 50s. Leslie later got her own show and is seen in this clip performing with The Temptations.

I’m sure you remember Brit girl Tracey Ullman who also had her own TV show and a hit in 1984 with “They Don’t Know”:

The R&B group The Unifics scored a hit in my neck of the woods with “Court Of Love”:

English Band Unit Four Plus Two had a 1965 hit with “Concrete And Clay”:

Gary Puckett And The Union Gap qualifies for this brain buster because their first two singles, “Woman, Woman” and “Young Girl” were released as by The Union Gap Featuring Gary Puckett”:

Subsequent releases switched the band’s name around identified them as Gary Puckett And The Union Gap.

R&B rock ‘n’ roll singer Gary Bonds qualifies because his first three singles, “New Orleans,” “Not Me” and “Quarter To Three” were all credited to “U.S. Bonds” as you will see on the original label displayed in this video:

After that the artist released records as “Gary (U.S.) Bonds.”

As you suggested, I am going to leave my blog address because I am always looking for new friends.

    tctgyb.blogspot.com

I also want to let you know that a couple days from now I will be starting a three week break from blogging so that Mrs. Shady and I can do some traveling. I plan to return to the blog world on Father’s Day, June 16. Kathleen Mae Schneider is blogsitting in my absence, and I hope you will visit my blog and support her current post honoring her late mother Margaret. If you publish posts in the next couple of days I should still be available to visit and comment before we leave town.

    Thank you, dear friend Cathy!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Tom,

What an ultimate collection of ‘U’ bands. 🙂 Ah, yeah I remember The Leslie Uggams TV show…I think but I mostly recall her from various 70s & 80s TV programmings like Hollywood Squares or The Love Boat, but I thought more of her as a singer than an actress for some reason. Did she record any hit songs? The Unifics, Unit Four Plus, and Gary U.S. Bonds are introductions but Garys’ name sounds familiar. I do remember the Tracey Ullman show but I was never a fan. Did I ever tell you I saw Gary Puckett & the Union Gap in the mid-80s when they did a comeback tour with the Monkees and another oldie band? That was such great fun!

Thanks for leaving a breadcrumb back to your blog for others to discover. 🙂

I’m glad you reminded me of your upcoming adventure. I hope you and Mrs. Shady have a very relaxing, fun get-away. I did pop over this morning to visit but as I explained my brain has been scrambled. I will certainly check in with Kathleen during your absence and I know she’ll do a good job holding down the fort while you’re away. Have a safe trip and blessings to you always, my friend!

      • Thomas Anderson

        Hi again, Cathy!

What a sweet reply! Thank you, dear friend, and thank you for leaving some kind words for Kathleen, too. She genuinely appreciates your comments on tribute posts for her mother Margaret. Kathleen’s neighborhood was hit by severe storms last night and they lost power. Today she and her husband are busy clearing large tree limbs from their property. This has caused a delay in her efforts to reply to comments on my blog. She assured me that she will be along a.s.a.p. to reply to your comment. Again I thank you for supporting her guest posts.

Leslie Uggams had one charted single, “One More Sunrise,” in September of 1959, but you couldn’t call it a hit since it peaked at #98 on the Hot 100.

Yessum, I think I remember you telling me you saw Gary Puckett and The Monkees on their comeback tour. That must have been exciting! Did you ever date Davy Jones? 🙂 In the mid 80s I went backstage, met and had drinks with David Clayton-Thomas, former lead singer of the band Blood, Sweat & Tears, following one of his solo shows in the Tampa Bay area.

I’m sure I will be back here again before Mrs. S and I leave. I just wanted to give you an early heads-up about our upcoming trip. Have a wonderful day, dear friend!

        • Cathy Kennedy

          Tom,

I’m sorry Kathleen’s area was hit hard by storms. Tell her there’s no hurry. I understand totally! I don’t know Uggam’s Hot 100 hit but it released before my birth and with its chart seating, I guess it really didn’t trickle down the generations like the bigger hits. Yes, I did see Davy Jones on stage. That’s really why I wanted to go but didn’t have a ticket until the evening of when another co-worker couldn’t go and gave me his which was so cool. Have a good time and I’ll see you in mid-June, my friend!

  • Debbie D.

Lovely photos, Cathy! And so are your sketches. You can’t go wrong, either way. 🙂 I’m going to be cutting back with blogging over the summer as well, but will still do WW occasionally, and BOTB once a month. Not sure about 4m. Thanks for the playlist. I’ll have to check those out tomorrow. One of my favourite U bands is Uriah Heep, but they are rock. The Undisputed Truth was a Motown band from the 70s. A favourite of mine:

      Debbie,

I really need to cut back but I keep fighting it. I’m pulled in all directions right on a personal level and it gets the best of me somedays but I find keeping busy takes my mind of the situation, so I keep doing what I do every single day. Thanks for sharing ‘Smiling Faces Sometimes’ by The Undisputed Truth. I remember the song but not the group name, so thanks for sparking my memory and educating me on the artist. 🙂

Very nice shots Cathy, I love those photos.

Thank you so much for visiting my blog
I tried to follow this blog but I have no idea what I did because I couldn’t find the Follow Me Box, so I just filled the Linky Followers up, but not sure what is going on. Sorry Cathy, it’s something new for me

    Have a wonderful day Cathy!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Evi,

I appreciate the Linky Follow Me. I think the best way to stay in touch with others in Blogosphere is to subscribe via email. That’s what I do with most bloggers but do whatever suits you. I’m happy to get visits no matter how someone chooses. Have a good day and thanks for stopping by!
