Monday's Music Moves Me

Things NOT on my wish (bucket) list

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee at Comedy Plus

Welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me, friends! This week’s theme is whatever music moves you.  The National Day Calendar shows today as National Bucket List Day.  I don’t do “bucket lists”.  That implies I have one foot in grave, but I do like keeping a wish list. I’ve done that before so why not go with…things NOT on my wish (bucket) list?

  1. Skydiving
  2. Rock climbing
  3. Driving a fast car
  4. Downhill skiing
  5. Traveling by airplane
  6. Sailing across the sea

I came up with a 10-song playlist base on these things you won’t find me wishing to do.

Things NOT on my wish (bucket) list: 1. Skydiving (Mariah Carey) 2. Awake (Full Tilt) 3. Mountain Climbing (Joe Bonamassa) 4. Fast Car (Tracy Chapman) 5. Dancing with the Mountains (John Denver) 6. Skiing in the Snow (The Invitations) 7. Leaving On a Jet Plane (John Denver) 8. Deep Water (Haley Reinhart) 9. The Heart of the Sea (Flogging Molly) 10. Sailing (Rod Stewart)

The featured songs I went with are mostly based on the song title.  I included track two, Awake by Full Tilt, (The Climber’s Anthem) because of the videography of climbers. I like a good thrill but preferably the kind that doesn’t put me at risk. My playlist is a mix of songs I know and new discoveries.  I love challenging myself and I hope you enjoyed the music.  Do you have a bucket list? What is one thing, we won’t find on yours?

This is a music link up.  Your 4M party hostess are now featured in my right side menu near the top.   Every other week we have a suggested music theme to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our music enthusiasts.  Themes aren’t mandatory to gain access to the dance floor but failure to meet the basic guideline (post must contain music) puts your URL in danger of being labeled – NO MUSIC.

Today’s Spark…

The roller-coaster is my life; life is a fast, dizzying game; life is a parachute jump; it’s taking chances, falling over and getting up again; it’s mountaineering; it’s wanting to get to the very top of yourself and feeling angry and dissatisfied when you don’t manage it. ~ Paulo Coelho

Before I forget,  let me share my mid-month BOTB results.  JHM Jams started off strong in this battle staying in the leading. I began thinking they’d win without a problem but then an amazing thing happened the votes came in for Acoustic Guitars.

Vote recap… Birgit, Ellen, Eugi, Diedre, & Stephen went with Acoustic Guitars and Tom, Lee, Brian, Mimi, John, and Marie went with JHM Jams. The final count 5 to 6 giving JHM Jams a narrow victory in this Battle of the Bands round!

If you enjoyed this as much as I did, I hope you’ll make time to sample more of JHM Jams covers on YT.

Originally when I composed this post I thought my battle ended in a tie and with no clear winner, I thought I’d share one more Oops I Did It Again cover by another band. Anyway I thought I’ go ahead with sharing my discovery. When I first heard it, it sounded a little creepy and then it turned almost comical, but I think that’s the intent of the metal band, Children of Bodom. 🙂

Thanks to everyone who played along.  My next BOTB is set for May 1st.  I’ll be sharing another chapter from my Maine photo memories with the Wordless Wednesday community.  I’ll see you then. 😉 This is CAAC signing off,  have a boogietastic day.  X💋X💋, Cathy

The non-bucket list was such a great idea, Cathy. I would use almost your entire list (although I have flown, both in commercial jets and, as a passenger, in a single engine plane (for the latter, I literally slept through the entire experience except for take off and landing). I hope never to have to fly again, though (long story). I would add “ride in a helicopter” mainly because I suffer from vertigo and I don’t think it would end well. I enjoyed your playlist – especially Fast Car (which I knew) and Mountain Climbing (which I didn’t.) Alana ramblinwitham

      Alana,

I definitely wouldn’t want to go up in a helicopter. Anything that takes me way high up in the air gets a big no. I’m glad you liked the idea and enjoyed the music. 🙂

  • Marie aka Dolly!

Hello my Lil’ SouthernBelle, Who luvs ya babygirl? MEEEEEEEEEE How are you today? Fine I hope. Still learning the blog world again and still makin’ booboos 🙁 Well, some day soon I should be okay…. (I HOPE)!!! I didn’t see you around today, so I thought I’d stop by, and say HELLO!!!! SO HELLO!!!!! Sending a REALLY BIG HUG TO YA! HUGSSSSSSS

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Marie,

I got tangled up with return visits yesterday and then I got side track taking care of some chores that I forgot to finish up in Blogosphere. I did pop over for some giggles with your Happy Tuesday post.
Thanks for dropping by to visit, my dear!

      Eugi,

I don’t understand why people who want to put themselves in harms way because they’re either A) thrill seekers or B) feel they must because they are “old”. 🙂

No bucketlist on our menu, CK, we prefurr a no-risk life and that brings us more adrenaline sometimes, than taking all those scary things on your not bucketlist😸 Great choices on your playlist according to your scary events…MOL…Rod Stewart is our favourite. We still love him singing when he has a performance, he’s such a funny man😺 That Awake video gave us the shivers, so did the metalband…MOL…Despacito made us happy, not only because of the mewsic, but also to see how happy the players are while they performing it💗Double Pawkisses for a wonderful week ahead🐾😽💞

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Stippie and Peachy,

How pawsom to have you on the dance floor! Rod Stewart is a favorite of mine, too. I really like the older artists on my playlist the best. 🙂 The strings version of Despacito is nicely done by my BOTBs winners, JHM Jams. The band has quite a number of videos on their YT channel. I hope to spend more time listening to their music soon. Children of Bodom are scary looking and sounding…well only a little at first when I began listening and then it almost turned funny. It’s such an odd, odd thing for a metal band to cover this hugely popular bubble gum pop hit and yet some how they made it work. I’m not going to buy it but it certainly is an interesting version to hear. Thanks for coming to the party, furriends!

    • Cathy Kennedy

Thanks for popping by, Veronica! You won’t find this girl doing anything challenging like these things. I’m one of these people who wants to meet death while sleeping. What a wimp, right? lol

  • Kathe W.

Oh my- great idea to have a “Not on my Bucket list”! My “No Thank You Bucket List” would include: Skydiving, Rock Climbing and Driving a Fast Car.
In addition I would add Packing and Moving, Shoveling Snow and Pulling Weeds. Take care and have fun!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Kathe,

Your list covers some strenuous activities. Thankfully, we don’t get much snow. The one time we did and we had to clear the drive way, I was exhausted when the job was done. I’d never survive living up north. 🙂

    • Cathy Kennedy

      John,

It’s so comforting to know that everyone is in agreement on these do nots. The battle was close. One minute I thought it was going to be heavily lopsided but in these things it can change quickly. Thanks for joining the party, my friend.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Robin,

Did your daughter enjoy the experience? Something pretty awful would have to happen to an airplane before I bailed out of it. That’s so scary just to think about. Nope, I’m keeping my feet on the ground.

  • Sandee

Awww on that adorable pup. Looks like we both did pups today.

I love your playlist and you got me thinking about my bucket list in my youth, although that’s not what it was called then, the my bucket list now. A huge difference. I was never a risk taker though. I could get my stimulation without doing dangerous things.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Love and hugs. ♥

I will never bungee jump, swim with sharks, skydive or rock climb. I did downhill skiing 3 times when I was 18….it was not fun. I crawled dowm the hill…lol. I love your Playlist and I so miss John Denver

      • Cathy Kennedy

        Birgit,

If I ever did downhill skiing, you betcha I’d either crawling or slide down the mountain on my belly. Sledding sounds more fun, not at this age but as a kid, just as long as it’s not on a really steep incline. That can be dangerous, too.

  • DrillerAA

I have never understood why anyone would jump out of a perfectly good airplane! I admit, I once owned a Datsun and discovered the top speed was 127mph. Did that once and once was enough. I have flown in planes and helicopters. In fact I would have loved to learn how to fly. I was never much of a fan of cold weather and snow, so downhill skiing was not on my radar of things to do. Rock climbing is a no. I do enjoy a good sea cruise, but if your talking about a real sail boat, I’m out…too much work.
Awesome and creative playlist. I discovered Joe Bonamassa several years ago and would love to see him in concert. He is in a class of very rare guitar players, like Eric Clapton, Vince Gill, and Prince. Have a blessed week.

In the mid-80s we bought our first fast car a 1985 Toyota Supra. We were young. I thought it was cool and a sporty car was more appealing to DH, then in 1987 Toyota brought out the Supra with a turbo charge. We traded the ’85 in for it. That thing was really fast. I don’t know what the top end was on it now but it some kick. I wasn’t much for fast driving then and am even less into it now. Jumping out of a perfectly good airplane sounds like a dumb idea to me, too. As a kid I liked playing in the snow but even then I knew my limits and grew tired of the cold fast. Joe Bonamassa is awesome. I believe it was John who introduced the artist to me years ago. Thanks for joining the party, my friend!

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Paw-some 4M Monday dear friend! I hope you and DH had a nice weekend.

Awww… I just wanna cover that cute little pup with smooches!

I enjoyed this morning’s song offerings in the category of things that would not go on your Bucket List. The Mariah rarity is new to my ears. I see that it was released in 2009 as a bonus track. Her incredible vocals always delight me. The amazing footage of daredevil rock climbers in that second video have me agreeing with you. That type of activity is a hard pass for me and goes on my NOT To Do list. Teetering on the rocky shores of Maine to take pics and videos is one thing, but scaling those sheer vertical rock faces to awesome heights is quite another. WOW – the Play of the Day is blues rocker Joe Bonamassa, his band and those glorious backing singers doing “Mountain Climbing” featuring an extended guitar jam in the middle. It’s one of the greatest songs I’ve heard in the 2020s and thank you for the introduction. If I had found it first, I probably would have posted it myself by now. It was a pleasant surprise to encounter a new to me John Denver song and relic music video. I read that “Dancing With The Mountains” was first released in February, 1980, at the tail end of the Disco craze, as the lead song on John’s Autograph album. “Skiing in the Snow” by The Invitations is apparently a rare Northern Soul sound, one that I never heard before. I have no doubt it was a biggie in the Northern UK soul clubs. I’ve known about singer Haley Reinhart for years, but never saw that incredible underwater music video. The song is a winner, and that’s one of the most beautifully shot and unusual conceptual promo vids I’ve ever seen. The Rod Stewart film “Sailing” is also new to me, and another wonderful find.

I’m surprised to learn that your band battle was such a close horserace to the very end, but that’s a great result for you, the hostess. I’m happy to know that other people appreciated the JHM string group as much as I did, and it was super to hear another tune by them this morning. I got a kick out of the Alice Cooperish metal cover by Children of Bodom. I actually like it and would probably have voted for it in your contest.

As always, I really enjoyed your Monday morning tune fest, and I’ll be back Wednesday to continue your journey through Maine. In the meantime, I hope you can stop over to see my new post at Shady’s Place published an hour ago. Have a wonderful week, dear friend Cathy!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Tom,

I’m happy you made it to the party this morning and enjoyed my song picks. Haley Reinhart is talented. I loved her early days on AI. Her accompanying music video is cool. It seems in recent years I’ve come across another artist or two to do something similar. Right now I can’t think who I’m thinking of but anyway, I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Yea, I was really surprised by the close battle with the way it pulled to one side at the beginning then to level out before the final vote was cast in JHM Jams favor. It was an awesome showdown! I kind of like Children of Bodom’s rendition, too. It’s definitely interesting in a weird, fun sort of way.

Thanks for the heads up on your new post. I did stop by earlier in the day. Have a boogietastic week!
