The African plains home to this pair of Zebra

This is the final day of the A to Z Challenge with day 26 and the letter ‘Z’.  Did you catch what I did with my post title? I incorporated an A to Z subliminal nudge.  Although, I didn’t use Africa for my first illustration in this series that would’ve been really cool but the African plains is home to this pair of zebra.

In my pencil sketch I originally drew the zebras more cartoon-like and in my revised sketch I came closer to life-like zebras. More practice is needed to get these animals spot on or should I say “stripe on”? 😀 I duplicated my recreation to apply a noise filter in my Procreate app making the below image grainy. I decreased the exposer level to give the appearance of night falling.

There you have it my Pencil Sketch Inspired Procreate Recreation Art Sketch series.  I hope it was fun for you to take another look at my first set of art drawings from 2017 revamped and colorized.  I want to offer my apologizes for not being able to make visits.  My plan is to catch up next month with those who left comments, responding to and doing return visits. I have one more A2Z contribution to bring together, which I hope to share early next week in my Reflections post.  Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your day.  I’m going to leave you with an oldie, “Africa” by Toto and if you’d like check out other participants from the challenge, you’ll find a complete list post at the A2Z headquarters.

This is CAAC signing off, I’ll be back tomorrow with my newest James Bond Theme Song BOTB Showdown and if you’re around I hope you’ll stop by to cast your vote for your favorite cover artist.  This is CAAC signing off,  Congratulations for making it to the end!

  1. I have noticed your drawings have animals or people smiling and then color version the smiles seem subdued. The change of expression seems delibrate but I don’t know. I kind of like that drawing with smiling zebras more.

    Have a lovely day.

  2. Congratulations on surviving another A to Z. Toto’s Africa was perfect for your post today. I enjoyed your changes in the color updates, especially the sky with the two flying birds. Whew, you did an amaZing job. Time for some zzzz’s (that’s how I feel). Alana ramblinwitham

  3. I like the color ones better, but there’s something to be said for the smiles on the zebras in the original Congratulations on finishing well!

  4. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Saturday, last day of April, and the finale of the 2022 A To Z Challenge, dear friend! You made it!

I like how you changed the pair of zebra in your colorized version. They went from whimsical and cartoonish to realistic. The animals look strong, able to withstand an attack or outrun a predator. I like the golden sunset over the plain and the added details of sparse trees and birds. I can feel the heat radiating from the earth’s surface at the end of a long sundrenched day. I have a feeling the zebras are making their way to the watering hole. I can’t decide which finished piece I like more, the first one or the second with the noise artifacts. Yessum, Toto’s big hit “Africa” is ideal to include in this post. A while back, as you might recall, I presented at Shady’s Place, the pop singer JoJo who had a hit single with “Anything,” a song that samples “Africa” :

Congratulations on going the distance and crossing the A to Z finish line, Cathy! I thoroughly enjoyed your theme – the Pencil Sketch Inspired Procreate Recreation Art Sketch series – and every entry during the month. As I have observed many times before, you are a gifted artist. I enjoy examining your work throughout the year and was delighted when I learned that it would be the focus of this year’s hop. Okay, the final step in the A to Z is for you to catch some well earned ZZZZZs as you rest and bask in the afterglow of a job well done.

I look forward to your A2Z Reflections next week and to you latest Bond song tomorrow in the May 1 BOTB. Have a safe and restful weekend, dear friend Cathy!

    1. I think both versions are good. The pencil shows the cartoonist side while the second shows your development in creating more depth and just love your colouring. You show depth well
