2022 A-Z Challenge

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

The A to Z Challenge alpha prompt for day 21 is the letter ‘S’.  I really didn’t think I was going to be done with today’s Procreate recreation. I have a zillion things going on right now besides this month’s challenge.  This illustration was quite detailed oriented.  I sketched all the characters expressions probably three times before I felt good about each one.  I’m happier overall with the way the dwarfs turned out more than I am with Snow White but I can work on her another time.

Doing a rough sketch of my old drawings don’t usually take long but the reworks and adding color slows me down dramatically.  I will say this, I thought my theme would be easier than this and it’s been anything but easy.  My earlier illustrations are more detailed than I remembered which becomes clear when I began my digital painting process.

It’s time to head over to the A2Z headquarters and you’re welcome to come with me.  Thanks for including me in your day.  I’m leaving you with a song I stumbled on Eraserheads “With A Smile”.  I would not have found this had it not be for the inspired song title A Smile and a Sing from the Disney classic film.  This is CAAC signing off, I’ll be back tomorrow hopefully with the next letter in the alphabet but if you don’t see my post in its usual time slot, then that means I’m running late so check back later! 😉

Another beautiful drawing. Love those colors. “Snow White & her Seven Magical Dwarfs” was one of the shows I managed in my touring years. I took that one on the road for two different seasons. This show required the largest cast of any of our shows, but after all we had to have seven dwarfs in addition to all the other characters although most of the actors had to play two or more roles.

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Friday and S-Day, dear friend!

Yessum, I can understand how time consuming it was to color all of the characters in this drawing depicting Snow White and six of the seven dwarfs..No wonder you feel swamped as you proceed through this year’s Challenge and realize that every sketch will take longer than expected to colorize. One would never know you had difficulty with this drawing, because the result is delightful. Snow White is absolutely beautiful. I can’t see any way to improve upon her, but your artist’s eye must have seen something that needs tweaking. Her colorful outfit plus the multi-colored suits and nightcaps of the dwarfs and the lush, green wooded hillside in the background all combine to make a whimsical, cheery and eye-pleasing composition. The effort you put into this one shows, Cathy. I am going to speculate once again that, consciously or subconsciously, the Snow White likeness is primarily a self-portrait based on your own facial features and slender physique.

Thanks for leaving me “With A Smile” by Eraserheads. I will BOLO for your T-Day offering whenever you can get it up and running tomorrow. Please note that I will also be publishing a new post tomorrow morning. I wish you and DH a safe and happy weekend, dear friend Cathy!
