2022 A-Z Challenge

Waves

Hello, folks! It’s mid-week with day 23 of the A to Z Challenge.  I just realized for the last little bit I’ve gotten the actual day count wrong. *roll eyes* Did you notice my goof up?  Probably did and you’re just too stickin’ sweet to say a thing. Today I’m sharing with you my new Procreate recreation of my original Waves pencil sketch.   Doesn’t this make you want to go to the beach?

Little or no words are needed with this scene.   Thanks for allowing me to be a part of your day.  I’m heading over to the A2Z headquarters to leave my calling card and maybe I’ll take notice to see who else came to the party.  I’m going to wind things down with Katrina and the Waves debut album, Walking On Sunshine (1983).  This is CAAC signing off, saying I’ll be back tomorrow with the next letter in the alphabet!

I love your waves, Cathy! Reminds me of when I lived in Florida and spent a lot of time at Daytona Beach. Keep on keepin’ on. 💖

    CAThy ~

I grew up body-surfing waves like that (near Lifeguard Station #26). I also sometimes wiped out (i.e., got “crunched”) body-surfing waves like that (near Lifeguard Station #26). Nice drawing, my friend!

My friends and I were fairly fearless, so it didn’t happen often, but every Summer there was a couple of days where the waves were breaking so big that we just stood on the beach watching them for a few minutes. Then one of us would finally say, “Let’s go get a hot-dog-on-a-stick and a lemonade.” That was code for: No-Freakin’-Way!

      Stephen,

The only surfing, if you can call it that was at Myrtle Beach. One year, we went when our girls were 1 and 3. We bought one of those Styrofoam body boards to ride the waves close to shore. I had trouble with that so doing anything more challenging would’ve not been a good idea then and definitely not gonna happen this late in the game. Plus, I’m a big scaredy Cathy. 🙂 Thanks for dropping in on me, my friend!

      Mimi,

Oh goody! I’m glad you sense the movement of the waves. I’ve learned a lot on how to work the various Procreate brushes to give my illustrations an interesting appearance and feel.

      Lisa,

I like watching the ocean but I don’t like to get in it. There’s too many unseens that give me the willies. lol Our last beach experience was in 2013 where we sat watching the sun set over the Gulf coast. It was gorgeous!

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Almost Wordless Wednesday and W-Day, dear friend! I’m arriving later than usual today because Blogger.com has changed its comment form. I and others are having problems leaving comments on Blogger blogs. I was held up an extra 20 minutes trying to post a single comment on another site. I hope you don’t have a problem on my blog tomorrow when I publish my new post. If so, email me.

No, dear friend. I didn’t notice that you got the number of the A to Z day wrong. Gosh, I have trouble remembering what day it is and sometimes need to look it up. 🙂 Your colorized version of the tumbling tide at the beach is marvelous. On the original black & white sketch, the curl of the wave looks more like a curved bicycle fender being tossed in the surf. The version brought back In Living Color has the waves smoothed out and more natural looking. The sea birds look natural, too, as they tilt their wings and sweep in an arc above the surface of the water in formation. The sun rising over the water in the east is a cheery sight, the start of a new day of fun in the sun relaxing on the sand and wading in the water. Those breakers look rather large and powerful, but rough surf such as that was exactly the kind I sought during my years of bodysurfing. The big waves were scary as they approached but, if you caught one just right, you were in for a long, thrilling ride to shore. I’ll always remember that exhilarating sensation.

I well remember the “splash” made by Katrina and the Waves in the mid 80s. (See what I did there?) The MTV station where I worked aired the mewsic video for their breakthrough hit “Walkin’ On Sunshine” in heavy rotation because we received many phone requests for it. It’s one of the catchiest feel-good songs in the history of popular mewsic. I like the energetic beat and the jangle rock arrangement on the next track, “Brown Eyed Son.” I really like how the band switched to a male lead vocal on “Don’t Take Her Out Of My World,” with Katrina singing background harmony. The guy’s voice reminds me of Ace Frehley. With it’s spoken/shouted intro and old school R&B sound, “Ain’t No Money (Buy You Love)” is reminiscent of the style of Ike & Tina Turner. To me, the highlight of the album is the first bonus track, the outstanding rendition of the hit early 60s instrumental “Wipe Out.” It’s the best cover of the frantic paced surf-rock tune I’ve ever heard. The drummer nailed it! I’m also digging the male lead on that other bonus song, “She Loves to Groove.” I think it worked well when Katrina did backing vocals. Of course, if they did that all the time, it would require the band to change its name to something more fitting.

Thank you for the morning art and entertainment, dear friend Cathy. I’ll be back tamale on X-Day!

      Tom,

Thanks for telling me about your ordeal with Blogger’s new commenting woes. I hope I don’t have any issues when I stop by your place today. I sure do appreciate your visits this month. Now that I’ve completed my sketches I hope to do a bit of catching up. Of course, I have a ton of other things going on around me in the background that’s totally non-blog related which is a nagging mess and I can’t wait for us to get every thing done especially the leaky water pipe. That’s top priority!
