Monday's Music Moves Me

Songs from 2018 #music

Awww Mondays with Sandee at Comedy Plus

Purs and hisses, Kittens and Dawgs! How was your weekend?  I had a good follow-up appointment with my oral surgeon regarding my TMJ injury.  He says I’m improving and can resume all things normal again. That means no more soup. Yay, me!  I hate food limitations! 🙂

It’s fabulous to see you today.  This week’s mewsic theme is ‘your choice’ and I found inspiration mostly from Rolling Stone’s 50 Best Songs of 2018 for my playlist but a few others crossed my path while sampling tunes to share with you.

Generally, I do not watch the videos and I can’t say that I viewed all of today’s featured videos. I prefer to listen to the mewsic and if it moves me then I feature it.  That being said, let me state this !!WARNING!! the last two videos contain girl-girl footage. As luck would have it, I did watch these.  I liked the mewsic because it makes me want to dance.

Are you ready to groove?  Just hit play and enjoy!

You may know by now that I generally do my 4M posts in advance and this is no exception.  I try to go come back to spice this portion up a bit but ran out of time before it went live.  The list still serves as a reminder what songs and artists I use in case a video is pulled from YT, so not all is lost. Feel free to share any interesting factoids you have on any of these songs!

  1. Desperate Man ~ Eric Church
  2. How Simple ~ Hop Along
  3. Delicate ~ Taylor Swift
  4. Nervous ~ Shawn Mendes
  5. Africa ~ Weezer
  6. Shallow ~ Lady Gage & Bradley Cooper
  7. Ever Again ~ Robyn
  8. Come On To Me ~ Paul McCartney
  9. Say Something ~ Justin Timberlake ft. Chris Stapleton
  10. Havana ~ Camila Cabello
  11. Make Me Feel ~ Janelle Monae
  12. Curious ~ Hayley Kiyoko

On behalf of the 4M gang, I want to say thank you to The Shadow for a pAwesome job on January’s themes.  You’re invited to join  XmasDolly (4M Brain Child) and my fellow 4M Co-hostesses Stacy,  Alana, Colette, and this month’s anonymous co-host on the dance floor.

🎶This is a mewsic link up ONLY, all non-mewsic posts are subject to removal or labeled ‘NO MEWSIC‘.🎶

[tweetthis]I’m boogieing with the #MondaysMusicMovesMe gang. Come hit the dance floor with me! @xmasdolly [/tweetthis]

I’m happy to say next month I am the honorary co-hostess!  One more thing, please take notice of the change to March’s 4M schedule.  Michele (AngelsBark) needed to cancel due health and family circumstances. You come first and everything else can wait.  Please keep our darlin’ in your prayers.

This means March is now available for the taking. Are you interested in filling in as March’s co-host?

No, that’s okay. Do ya have some theme ideas to share with your 4M dance partners? Leave ’em in comments or send me an email. 😉

Keep those tunes playing, your body swaying, and I’ll be boogieing over to see you soon.

Have a sparkletastic day!

Great line up, Cathy! My favorites are Desperate Man, Delicate, Africa, Shallow, Say Something, and Havana. 🙂 I’m like you – even if there’s a video, I often times just close my eyes and listen to the music (or have the music playing in another tab while I’m elsewhere online). 🙂 Thanks for the awesome dance – hope you’re having a great weekend! 🙂

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Stacy,

I don’t have time to pay attention to the videos and besides they can be rather distracting. I like to hit play and walk/click away to do other things like you.

  • Alana Mautone (@RamblinGarden)

My favorites here are both covers – Havana and Africa. I continue to be so impressed by Lady Gaga, but I can’t get over Weird Al in the Weezer version of Africa – I called my husband (a huge Weird Al) fan over to guess who their “lead singer” was and he never guessed until the shot of him with the accordion. He has such a wonderful voice when he sings “straight”. And I did have a lot of fun with the Paul McCartney video – that security guard had moves! I never would have listened to any of these songs on my own so thank you, thank you!

  • John Holton

An interesting set of music I rarely listen to. “Havana” and “Africa” were my favorites, although I prefer the Pentatonix cover of the former and the Toto original of the latter. (Does that make sense?)

      • John Holton

Not quite. I was saying I preferred Pentatonix’s cover of “Havana” and the original “Africa” by Toto. Tried to get a little too fancy there…

        • Cathy Kennedy

          John,

Okay, that makes sense. I think it was just me. I’m slow to unravel less than simple thoughts somedays. lol I hopped over to YT to listen to Pentatonix ‘Havana’ cover which I really liked. I’m not sure if I like it more than the original but I definitely liked it a lot. This song is going to be stuck in my head today. I totally agree with you the original ‘Africa’ being the best. Thanks for the clarification.

I am thrilled with your highly rated health review. That is the very best news.
Be careful if you choose to clean house while listening to this play list. 😉

Nice that you had a good check up – I abhor food limitations also. I eat what I want and want what I eat and ..well there’s that… I like your list – don’t have time to check some of them out right now but I might do that soon. You have such an interesting blog and i know Im missing out on some stuff but eventually I’ll jump in and join some of these things.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Sandy,

I try to eat what I want all the time because if I did then I’d be big as my house. lol But, I do love food! I’m happy that you find my little niche a place of interest. Your visits are always nice welcomes and I hope you’ll hop by anytime to poke around. You don’t have to do anything more than just to be my guest. 😉

Woo Hoo Burger & Fries? Spaghetti & meatballs or how about a good old fashion steak? Yummmmm eeeeee & so happy for you. Soup? Girlfriend I love my homemade soup wish I could send some to ya! So luvin your tunes so far I listen while I type. Can’t say I ever heard the first one or the second, but my chair is swaying back & forth I must say! Hmm Taylor Swift? Nope haven’t heard this one either. Hmmm where have I been. Hey, one I know! Woo Hoo Weezer! I know Down in Africa & the next tune too with Lady GaGa… hehehe & love Paul McCartney & Justin Timberlake for sure – Okay, I feel better now! Well, the guys are callin’ me for Hot Chocolate. mmmmm Have a great day honey!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Marie,

I say by tomorrow evening, we’ll be wanting hot chocolate, too. It’s going to get really cold here and we might even get some snow. I’m sure it won’t be much but the ice is what concerns me mostly anyhow. That stuff is so dangerous and nothing can go on it. Thanks for boogieing with me today, dearie!

    • Cathy Kennedy

Thanks, Patrick! It’s always a pleasure having you stop by to chair boogie or maybe you’re like me you gotta get to your feet when the beat hits ya. 🙂

  • DrillerAA

Congratulations on returning to the diet of your choice. The Eric Church song provided an interesting video. Not really a fan of the second song How Simple. Her voice is much too of a whiner for my taste. Have a blessed week.

  • Birgit

I’m so glad you can eat regular food again instead of just soup. This is a time to celebrate. Some of the music is excellent like Lady Gaga. I’m not much into girl on girl stuff…I just don’t get it.

  • -Eugenia

I know some of these songs! Yes, I admit it, I joined the ranks of the Swifties. I also like Shallow by Gaga and Bradford, and Paul McCartney is always a class act. Great selection, Cathy, and glad to hear you’re on the mend.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Eugenia,

I knew Taylor Swift would be a big star when she first started in the business. Her creative talent to write, sing, and play mewsical instruments were just some of the things needed to catapult her career. Of course, I’d say having the right kind of backing helped a lot, too. Yes, I am healing quite well and feeling more like myself again.

  • Sandee

Some great tunes. Dangerous Man I’d not heard before. Good one.

Love the graphic. What we all should do and very single day.

Aw on those two cutie pies. I’ve already linked you to Awww Mondays.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and enjoy the music. Love you. ♥

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend!

I am very happy to learn that you got a good report card from your oral surgeon. What a blessing that you can return to a normal diet. Recovering from illness, injury or a great personal loss can give you a greater appreciation of “normal” than you had before.

It’s a tunetastic idea to present a play list of songs released in 2018. All are new to me except “Havana” which showed up on the blogs of two friends this past year. Ever since the MTV revolution began in the early 80s, mewsic fans have been evaluating videos along with the songs. When voting in band battles I try not to watch the videos but, in a hop such as 4M, I take both into consideration. Right away I liked the first song, “Desperate Man,” by Eric Church. The next one that jumped out at me was “Nervous” by Shawn Mendes. His voice and style remind me of the Canadian singer I featured on SDMM three years ago, Francesco Yates, who had the hit single “Sugar” in collaboration with Robin Schulz. “It starts with a great song,” as I always say, and the Toto hit “Africa” is a great song that has been covered by other artists over the years. I thoroughly enjoyed the 2018 recording by Weezer. I also loved the duet “Shallow” performed by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper from the soundtrack of the 2018 hit remake of A Star Is Born. It makes me want to see the film. I featured Swedish pop singer Robyn Carlsson two or three times on my blog, and it is nice to know she is still cranking out great recordings. The standout in this set for me was “Make Me Feel,” the bisexual themed song and video by Janelle Monáe. I first became acquainted with Janelle through her acting role in the hit film Hidden Figures. I agree with critics that Janelle’s “Make Me Feel” is inspired by the Prince song/video “Kiss,” recalls the work of Sheila E. and Robert Palmer’s iconic “Addicted To Love” music video.

This is a very exciting 2018 play list, dear friend Cathy, and once again I am so glad to know you’re on the mend and getting back to normal. Have a wonderful week!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Tom,

Yes, it is indeed nice to return to normal again. I’m happy that you liked my playlist of mostly new songs. Blogging has introduced me to a lot of mewsic both the old and the new over the years. It’s great exposure for my ears. I’m playing catch up this morning, so I’m sorry for cutting this so short but I truly appreciate your visits, dear friend. You’re the best!
