Monday's Music Moves Me

Songs about the Beatles

A vintage image of a cute little fella. Check out more Awww Mondays at Comedy Plus hosted by Sandee

Hello! It’s the final Monday in June.  Patrick is closing out the month with his last theme pick.  Global Beatles Day is today (Sunday).  He suggested that we share songs about the Beatles, by the Beatles, and/or members of the band.

I borrowed suggestions mentioned in the online article 21 Songs About the Beatles to build my playlist with songs about the Beatles mostly by other singers. If you’re curious you can read a bit of the backstories of these tunes from that article.   Besides other artists singing songs about the Beatles, I included in my set, songs written by Paul, John, George, or Ringo. There was only one tune I knew and another I recognized only the song title.

Tracks: 1. Harry Nilsson “Stand Up & Holler (All For The Beatles) The Foto-Fi Four” 2. Ella Fitzgerald “Ringo Beat” 3. Four Preps “A Letter To The Beatles” 4. The Carefrees “We Love You Beatles” 5. Penny Valentine “I Want To Kiss Ringo Goodbye” 6. The Monkees “Randy Scouse Git” 7. ELO “Beatles Forever” 8. Elton John “Empty Garden” 9. Joe Diffie “Bigger Than the Beatles” 10. George Harrison “When We Was Fab” 11. Ringo Starr “Glass Onion 12. John Lennon “How Do You Sleep?” 13. Paul McCartney “Too Many People”

How many of these did you know? What songs about the Beatles can you think of, if any?

This month’s honorary co-host has been Patrick from Adventures in Weseland!

This is a music link up.  Hence, your post must contain music (at least one song) or your URL is marked “No Music”. The party co-hostess are now featured in my right side bar underneath the 4M banner. The guidelines are simple.  Every other week, a suggested (not mandatory) theme is given to build your song picks. YouTube and other music sites have options to create and embed playlists or individual songs into your post. On the off weeks, we dance to whatever music moves you – your choice. Finally, to access the dance party, just add your music post below, and visit others on the floor. Let the party begin!

Special thanks to Patrick for volunteering to be a guest co-host this month. 👏 You did a fabulous job!  We’ll never turn down anyone who wants to fill the spot but it’s not necessary.  However, if you have music theme suggestions to share then I’d love it if you’d pass them this way!  I credit every person for his/her ideas. My next scheduled post is my July 1st BOTB.  If you’re in Blogosphere on Saturday, I hope  you’ll swing by.  This is CAAC signing off,  have a boogietastic day.  X💋X💋, Cathy

Interesting lineup for a really unique theme. Only song I remembered was Glass Onion. I enjoyed the Harry Nilsson tune.

  • marina

I enjoyed Ella Fitzgerald’s song, Glass Onion and Paul McCartney’s Too Many People. (Im not fond of covers from others 😬).

      Sandee,

You were the first to join the party this week. You rock, girl! 🙂 I’m happy that you liked what I did with my song picks. Thanks for joining the fun, my dear!

What a fabulous playlist, Cathy! Most of the songs about the Beatles were new to me, but I remember Randy Scouse Git. 😀 Glass Onion is such a fun tune, especially the “Walrus was Paul” line.

Hey Baby Girl, I DID IT!!! GOT THEM BOTH POSTED FINALLY! Try it now… I don’t know what happened, but I tried my link from our link & my own link on the blog… both work. Thank you for watchin’ out for me! HUG! You’re the best. Oh, I’m doing this one from bed. I slipped on a wet floor Saturday morning & BAM! My back is very unhappy!!! Last weekend I went to the Wisconsin Dells with my kids & my cousin got married there. It was great fun! My son kept making me laugh & my daughter & him were bickering as usual (just like the old days), & then I hear, “MA”! HAHA Oh yes, lots of fun. Just like when they were kids. They even had a water fight! LOL Dave had to stay home and watch Charlie our dog so it was just my kids & me! My son paid for the room & drove us & he cooked for us too! Then Saturday was the wedding! It was right on the beach. It was beautiful. My cousin Kim was in tears it was her son that got married. The bride was gorgeous! Talk to ya later. Oh I’m sorry your tunes are FAB!!! Luv ya! Thanks again!

This will certainly the most unique playlist I will hear today. It’s amazing how simple some of the lyrics and melodies were in the 60’s. Very well done. Have a blessed week.

  • Marie aka Dolly!

First lovin’ your tunes for sure! If I put a quarter in your hand will you keep playing these cutie tunes? he-he-her!!! Could’ve sworn I left a comment, but let’s try this again. • Cathy Kennedy

      Marie,

I left a message on your blog because your 4M link isn’t working. 😉 I’m glad you came by to listen to my song picks for this week’s theme. You’re so kind with your sweet words. I want you to know I really appreciate your prayers. We can’t ever get too many of those, can we? I didn’t do all that much for you but thanks! 😘 Eventually, you’ll be back at this full time like you once were. You’ve come along way over the past few months comparatively speaking from where you were a year ago. So, way to go! Just keep at it. I checked my email, did you send something? I don’t see anything in either my protonmail or gmail from you. Have a boogietastic day, darlin’!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Brian,

This is one the reasons, I love 4M. It challenges me to learn about music through new eyes. Thanks for dropping by for a visit, furriend!

  • 15andmeowing

That was a tough theme. I didn’t know there were any songs about The Beatles. 🙂 Have a great week. XO

  • Alana Mautone

I knew Randy Scouse Git, Empty Garden (I very nearly used it-I love that song), Glass Onion, and Too Many People. Happy I’m not being graded. My favorites of the other songs? Ella Fitzgerald, Harry Nilsson, and George Harrison. The Harry Nilsson song sounded like something Buddy Holly would have done (was that intentional, I wonder?) and the ELO song sounded like Telephone Line in spots.Alana ramblinwitham

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Alana,

The article I pulled my song picks from said this about Harry Nilsson’s song….

Several years before Harry Nilsson became famous, he released “All for the Beatles,” which was released under the alternate title “Stand Up and Holler” and credited to a pseudonym, Foto-Fi Four. The song features a prominent Bo Diddley beat and was packaged with a film reel of the Beatles from when they first arrived in the U.S. in February 1964. The song didn’t chart, but the film and physical single are now coveted collector’s items.

I had no idea what a “Bo Diddley beat” is, so I checked with Wiki to learn that it is a syncopated musical rhythm that is widely used in rock and roll and pop music named after the musician who popularized and introduced it, Bo Diddley in 1955. I guess one might draw from this little bit of info that it’s possible Buddy Holly used the “Bo Diddley beat” in his recordings.

“Beatles Forever” never officially released. It was intended to be placed on ELO’s 1983 album Secret Messages but didn’t make the final cut. What I took away from the article is Jeff Lynne wasn’t happy with the song because it seemed like a brown-nosing number. I haven’t read the lyrics to know what he’s referring to but I liked the sound of it. I did note after you mentioned the similarity this song has with “Telephone Line”.

Thanks for sharing the dance floor with me, darlin’. Have a boogietastic week!

      Robin,

You should see an edit option just below your name after you comment to fix any goofs. But, don’t worry about it. I make enough mistakes for you, me, and the rest of the world. 🙂

You know I. A big fan of The Monkees. When Micky Dolenz sings “Randy Scouse Git” in concert he tells the story of his trip to England and how he met “the four kings of EMI” (EMI being the Beatles’ record label at the time).

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Robin,

The article from which I borrowed song ideas from says this about “Randy Scouse Git”…

Sometime in the latter half of the ’60s, the Beatles, referred to as “the four kings of EMI” here, threw a party for the Monkees when the American group was in London. Micky Dolenz even met his future wife, Samantha Juste, “the girl in the yellow dress” and “the being known as Wonder Girl.” “Randy Scouse Git” recalls the time and reached No. 2 in the U.K. But the song had to be renamed “Alternate Title” in the States, because its U.K. title, borrowed from an episode of British sitcom Till Death Us Do Part, roughly translated to “sex-crazed Liverpudlian jerk.”

I’ll make my rounds tomorrow. 😉 Thanks for stopping by today!

      • songbird1329

Article has it backwards, “Alternate Title” was used in the UK. Micky tells that part of the story, too. (Yeah, I’ve seen him perform it a few times…)
