Monday's Music Moves Me

School Days Friendships, Crushes, & Loves

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus.

In case you missed it, my newest installment in my James Bond Theme song series BOTB published this past Thursday.  Thank you for joining me for another Sunday edition of Monday’s Music Moves Me!

The theme this week is to share songs about school

For the first theme for September, John reference Labor Day but wants us to share songs about school. I’m going out on a limb. The way he worded the prompt, I suppose one could either tie the two ideas. Ehh, it’s something to ponder on.  Anywho, schools started early last month in our area but when I was little school started after Labor Day.

When I thought about going back to school, I got excited about solving the mysteries of the universe in science, figuring out complicated math equations, diving into book reports, and … what’s that you’re not buying it?  You’re right. Those things were the furthest from my mind.  I thought about the boys!  With that, I twisted my thinking when I built my playlist for this week’s theme.  Instead of the typical “school day” tracks, I went with a mix of oldies and newer tunes about friendships, crushes, and loves in the song titles or lyrics.  Hit play to enjoy!

School Days Friends & Crushes playlist

  2. Call Me Maybe ~Carly Rae Jepsen

  6. Love At First Sight ~Kylie Minogue
  7. You Really Got Me ~The Kinks
  8. Bad Case of Loving You ~Robert Palmer
  9. Teenage Dream ~Katy Perry
  10. Dream A Little Dream of Me ~The Mamas & The Papas

Other than recession, what was your favorite and least favorite subjects in school?  Art and History were my favorite subjects in school.  Did you ever smoke in the boys/girls room?  I don’t think I ever did but I think I do remember smoking on school property in an area that was unofficially designated as the smoking zone but the Principal deemed if you’re there then you’re off school property which might result in being reprimanded. Did you cut class? Nope, I was too much of a scaredy CathyDid you play any pranks on your teacher? See previous answer.  It works here, too.  Were you the class clown, dunce, or know-it-all? I wasn’t labeled any of these honorary titles.  Did a teacher tell you something that really stuck with you over the years? One teacher implied I didn’t know why I was getting married and felt certain it was doomed.  That puzzled me.  Wasn’t marrying for love enough? Oh well…it’s been 43 years now.  I guess this thing might work.

This is a music linky party.  Your co-hostess are StacyAlana, and Me.   Every other week we have a suggested music theme (see weekly prompts here) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our music enthusiasts.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

I want y’all to think about the direction of music prompts for 2023.  It won’t be no time it’s here.  Do we keep filling the honorary co-host spot or shall I request suggestions to be sent in?  I’ll be back next week same time, I hope to see you again.  This is CAAC signing off,  have a boogietastic week! Oh! Ive missed Huey Lewis and the News, this was fun, dear Cathy.

What news of Marie dearest? Hope she is on the mend and raring to get back.

I love your song choices, Cathy! My favorite subjects were English and art. That’s funny you had a teacher that told you your marriage was doomed and wouldn’t last and you’ve been married 43 years. Ha ha 💕

We never had such cute classmates as that pup.

I like your interpretation of the theme, although i went to an all girls school and no boys in sight.

Getting in trouble was the last thing i wanted to do, also, so i didn’t prank or cut or smoke or do much of anything except study and try to make it out of there alive.

Great set of songs about spending our school days coming of age. George Strait’s “Check Yes or No” is a classic elementary school image of a boy discovering girls.
The Beatles were still a .”boy band” when “I Wanna Hold Your Hand Was Released.” I speaks a lot about the junior high years.
Time and space separate us from ones we love and Vietnam did that for millions of friends, lovers, and married couples. “Dream a Little Dream of Me” was a hopeful request that a relationship would not suffer because of the need to be apart. Well done…really well done.

I hope you have a great September, Cathy! I’d say, have people send in suggestions: minimize your work. You already do so much for MMMM! Enjoyable set, especially the oldies, and “Check Yes or No”. As for your questionnaire: No smoking (never have), and I tried to avoid the school bathrooms! I was one of the checked out people; wasn’t interested in studying, I would actually sit in some classrooms and read in the back (something I wanted to read). But there were a couple of teachers who really got me engaged. One had to leave when she started to “show” (NYC schools didn’t allow obviously pregnant teachers in the classroom back in the 60’s) The other one, sadly, died a couple of months into my senior year. Suddenly. On the one day I ever cut class, and I don’t even remember what I did that day other than hanging out with a girlfriend. I also had my first crush/love/boy I dated (no, not the man I married 48 years ago) in my senior year of high school. Alana ramblinwitham

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy paw-some 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend! I hope you and DH had a nice week.

Awww… I just wanna smooch that cute little bookworm Yorkie! I actually owned a Yorkie back in the 1970s. Her name was Thomas’s English Muffin.

Ha! You had me going there for a minute, dear friend, when you started listing your favorite things about school. I admire you for telling the truth and admitting that you were more interested in boys. For me, the best part about school was girl watching, noticing the outfits female classmates wore day by day. I always appreciated a nicely dressed and well groomed lady.

I enjoyed your song set. I discovered Canadian singer/songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen in the mid 2010s, bought her “best of” CD and posted a few of her songs on my blog in the years that followed. The Romanian singers I follow on YouTube have covered “Call Me Maybe” and other Carly Rae hits in recent years, and I notice they are also fond of covering the material of another Canadian singer/songwriter, Avril Lavigne. I thoroughly enjoyed the George Strait song “Check Yes Or No” in which he shares memories of his first puppy love in third grade, his first kiss and innocently holding hands with his childhood sweetheart. Notice how girls tended to be taller than boys at that age? I loved how the video ended with him pulling out the original note passed to him in class and finally checking “YES” as the couple celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. Very touching!

I don’t know how I managed to miss “Crush,” the 1998 chart-topping international hit by Georgia pop-rock singer Jennifer Paige. It’s a great song and video! Kylie Minogue has a string of hits a mile long, and I enjoyed the one you selected. I briefly chatted with the Australian popper in the late 80s when she was emerging as a singing star. It happened at my MTV station when one of our veejays conducted an interview with her via satellite. I remember how charming and gracious Kylie was that day, and her winning smile. Your parade of prominent female pop-rockers continues with another that I like, Katy Perry. I have various remixes of “Teenage Dream” in my personal collection. Nothing takes me back to the sunshine pop 60s like the voice of Mama Cass, and I enjoyed her performance of “Dream A Little Dream of Me” singing lead for her group The Mamas & The Papas. My MTV station also played all of the cool videos produced by Huey Lewis And the News.

I enjoyed reading your Q&A answers. It surprises me to learn that you smoked. The one time I remember cutting class was the day during my senior year when I and a couple of friends left school and went to Bud’s Drive-In where we smoked cigars and played pinball for a couple of hours. I’m surprised a teacher cautioned you about getting married. You certainly showed him or her that you knew in your heart what you were getting into.

Thanks for the morning mewsic and fun, dear friend Cathy. Have a wonderful week ahead!
