Friday Sillies

Photo Blooper #humor + Friendly Fill-ins

I have no plans to rise early today, kittens & dawgs! This is DH’s off day, so hopefully, we’re catching up on much-needed Zs. The week is almost over but if you’re draggin’ this mornin’ then perhaps a spoonful of laughs will change your mood. WARNING! If you have small ones in the room, use discretion before and put your coffee on the table before proceeding this morning with Photo bloopers #humor!

Pirate wear by Adidas! I like that. What do you think?

You might wanna think twice about crossing your legs while wearing a short dress without undergarments. There’s always a camera around when you least expect it or in this case totally right on you!

Let’s continue the fun with Friendly Fill-Ins with Annie and Ellen. Every Thursday four fun and easy blank statements are posted for us to borrow, complete, and share on our site. The point is to simply have fun linking, reading, and meeting others who enjoy this sort of thing.

Here’s my response to this week’s fill-ins:

(1) Snow cream. Did you make this when you were a kid?

(2) My favorite kind of soup is chicken noodle. It’s my comfort soup when I’m under the weather.

(3) When no one is around, I talk to myself because sometimes I need good advice when DH isn’t around.

(4)  The Lord is my strength and rock on which I stand. I could not make it in this life without Jesus. He is my hope, my everything, and He sees me through every step of every day. I’m never alone. He walks beside me and when I cannot walk, He carries me.

I adjusted my Friday posts yet again.  I know, I know but it’s a woman prerogative to change her mind, right?  I’m still keeping Skywatch Friday and Celebrate the Small Things in one post but I decided to move it back to Fridays which I published earlier today.

Do you find posts with too much content overwhelming?  Do you only skim the post, picking up bits and pieces to comment on? Do you prefer to see daily multiple posts with less content?

For more social media network fun and inspiration join the Friday Features Linky Party!

That’s a wrap for now but you’re invited to hit the dance floor (mewsic theme – your pick) on Mondays Mewsic Moves Me.

Have a laughtastic weekend!Save

Sharon, I’m delighted enjoyed getting your dose of laughs. I reckon you stopped off looking for my SWF contribution. I shared it in my earlier Friday post. 🙂 Thank you for the return visit and I hope to see you next week! 😉

Call me when the Snow Cream is ready! I wonder if Yoopers do that! I could start a trend.
My GrandDad used to say he talked to himself because he was the smartest man he knew! *wink* I agree with you on #4! Excellent answer, my friend. HUGS!

Those bloopers are funny. Thanks for joining in the fill-ins,I always enjoy your answers. I live in New England and have never made snow cream, I may try it while we still have some out there. Excellent answer for #4. I don’t mind long posts as long as they are interesting and fun- yours are so no worries. Have a great weekend! XO

Ellen, you live in New England and yo haven’t made snow cream? I can’t believe my eyes, girl! Tom made an excellent point with the pollution and it’s hard to feel good about eating these days. I hadn’t thought of this until I read his comment. So, exercise good judgment before making yours. 😉 I don’t want you to get sick. I appreciate you weighing in on my question about post length. Thanks for visiting and have a good weekend!

I often shoot for short low content posts, but then I keep thinking of things to add until my posts end up pretty long and wordy. I don’t mind interesting long posts, but if they are mostly random announcements, reviews, or the like then I’ll do a lot of skimming. If there are a lot of videos I’ll likely not watch many of any. If it’s a dense block of non-stop words with no or few paragraph breaks to the point where my eyes blur because I can’t follow then forget it.

If I’m really feeling sick then just plain chicken broth and hot tea is what I consume. But if I’m sick and need something more substantial then I like Tom ka kai (Thai coconut chicken soup). I’ll go to my favorite local Thai restaurant and order it spicy. For me it’s like a magic medicine with its great flavor and exotic spices. Good even when I’m not feeling sick.

Lee, You sound like me regarding post length. You do an excellent job on pulling yours together. I generally do not like review posts unless it’s something I’m fixing to or want to buy or a movie I haven’t seen but want to see. General randomness unless it’s with purpose I skim across, too. Most videos I watch in part or entirely. Breaks in paragraphs with photos or vids make posts more interesting. Most of my blogging for the last three years revolve around memes. I don’t really do much content writing which bothers me a little but it works for me right now. So, I’m not pushing it. This year’s A-Z challenge got me to thinking about doing something more personal, something that motivates and inspires me in new ways which sorta popped in my head yesterday evening. I’m working on it now, so we’ll see where this goes. Thanks for visiting and giving me your advice, you’re a good friend!

    Hi, Cathy!

Like you I slept in today (till 6-something) and I am now sipping Starbucks and enjoying your Friday Sillies.

That first picture showing the Fox affiliate TV news reporter being groped by a primate reminds me of the blooper tape reels that most if not all TV stations keep. I worked at three different stations in my career and they all made a practice of saving bloopers and playing the reels at the annual company Christmas parties. You’d be surprised how many wacky things happen to anchors and reporters in the course of a year, and how funny some of those straight-laced news people are in informal settings. One guy I worked with did a spot-on impression of NBC personality Tom Snyder and, of course, it was included on the “goodie reel.”

I must admit that I never heard of that recipe for snow cream! Back in granny’s day it was probably a more common practice. Today, with the amount of pollution in the air, I wouldn’t trust the snow to be pure enough to eat even if it looks to be.

Yesterday I observed the 22nd anniversary of my mother’s death. Your “chicken noodle soup” answer reminded me of her. On cold winter days I found comfort in the hot soup my mother served.

You asked a question that I am eager to answer:

“Do you find posts with too much content overwhelming? Do you only skim the post, picking up bits and pieces to comment on?”

Interesting, fun, creative posts, posts laced with humor, posts that introduce good music and/or impart useful information, do not overwhelm me. I NEVER skim a friend’s post. I read every word because to race through and leave a short, generic comment would be an insult, yet I realize it is a common practice in blogging. There are a few people who routinely skim my posts and leave a bare bones comment – just enough to draw me over to their blog where they know I will leave a long and intelligent comment on their new post. Those people, ironically most of them authors, are on the bubble and will soon be removed from my circle of friends. If they make it painfully clear that they are not interested in the theme of my blog and 99% of the content I present, and unwilling to give more than the bare minimum of time required to read, listen and comment, then what’s the point of us doing this dance?

    You also asked:

“Do you prefer to see daily multiple posts with less content?”

I will be honest with you, Cathy. I do not prefer to see daily multiple posts, nor do I favor daily single posts such as the A to Z Challenge. My blogging philosophy is to make every post as special as possible and give it time to “breathe” – allow it to remain on the front page for a minimum of 3 days and an average of 6 or 7 days before replacing it with a new post. It gives busy friends a chance to visit when it is convenient for them. Many of my friends visit and comment 5 or 6 days after I start running a particular post, and I know they appreciate not feeling rushed. Every blogger has the right to publish as often as they like but, given the fact that I am not a “hit & run” type of blogger who spends only a few seconds skimming and leaves a cookie cutter comment, but instead takes considerable time to read and leave thoughtful comments that address the topic, contribute interesting new information and help move the discussion forward, you can readily understand that it would be unrealistic for me to spend hours every day “servicing my accounts” (visiting friends with new posts) and devoting a large block of time to reading and commenting. Doing so would not leave enough time for me to have a life with Mrs. Shady and my family or to create new posts of my own. Currently I visit your blog several days a week. In doing so I am devoting much more time to you than I am to any other blog friend. It is a measure of how important you are to me, Cathy. Therefore I am sure you will understand if I cannot maintain this pace indefinitely and I trust that you will have faith that our friendship remains strong and intact even if I am not here for every single post.

Have a safe and happy weekend, dear friend Cathy!

      Tom,

You got up much earlier than we did this morning. lol I imagine those “straight-lace” anchormen/reporters have a fun personality away from the eye of the camera. The gag reels at the annual Christmas party sounds like a lot of fun.

WOW, 22 years since your mom passed! I imagine yesterday was spent in reflection of days gone by with your Mother and particular things trigger distinct memories. Often times when I think of chicken noodle soup, I’m reminded of the a very cold winter when I was very young and very sick with my grandma bringing me this to my bed. It instantly gave me comfort then and still does today.

I really appreciate your thoughtfulness in answering my questions. You go beyond the call of duty as a blog commenter, my friend. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I try to read posts entirely. Sometimes my mind won’t stay in the game but I always read enough to get a general understanding. I allowed myself for years to be too fleeting, so I’m reconditioning myself to slow things down, to savor the moment, to make a deeper connection with my blogger friends even when they don’t always do in like kind. You don’t have to worry in that department. 😉 I find your blog posts insightful and entertaining. A real pleasure to read. Your personal style actually inspires me to do better when composing my mewsical posts. I like surrounding myself with those who do things better than me to learn from.

My philosophy on friendship still stands, “A friend is a friend always.” What this means is my friends don’t have to insert themselves into my life every day to make me feel that they are true friends. I know they are. They have their own world to keep up with and I am filled with peace knowing I can call on any of them that they will be there for me in some form – a listening ear, prayer warrior, … I don’t want any of my friends to think they must visit my site every single day and to comment on every single post. I love it when it happens but again I know there’s more to life than blogging. My feelings will never be hurt. Trust me. I’m a very easy-going person. You’re truly a good friend and I always welcome your suggestions. Have a good weekend with Mrs. Shady!

Cathy, this is the kindest, sweetest, most generous reply I have ever received. It literally brought tears to my eyes. I wish others could learn from the example that you and I are setting day by day and week by week. We are practicing genuine friendship, the kind you feel and know is always there, the kind that transcends any differences we might have. Truth be told, you and I are much more alike than different. I can relate to you and to the content of your blog, and that is one of the main reasons why I love to come here and spend time with you. You are real people, the kind I used to know back home in my youth. The kind I now miss so much. Yessum, I will always be here for you, and gives me great pleasure to assure you of that.

Have a wonderful weekend, dear Cathy!

        • Cathy Kennedy

          Tom,

My mother and grandma always taught me to treat others the way I wanted to be treated which is a part of who I am. I cannot imagine doing things differently. None of us are alike on every issue. That’s one of the beautiful things about diversity. The way to deal with the differences takes love and respect. Yes, you and I share a lot of the same interests and we live our lives much like the way we were raised. I believe it’s the last thing that allows us to push through to enjoy our friendship. Again, it comes down to respect. We respect and appreciate each other. Have a good weekend and God bless, my friend!
