Monkey Town #WW + #BoTB results

I’m taking things easy this summer. Blogosphere is a bit like a ghost town this time of year and that’s ok. We all need to break away from our normal routine to enjoy life and what better time to do it than summer? Exactly.

DH and I are getting out more but staying relatively closer to home with shorter trips. It doesn’t matter what we do as long as we do it together. We passed through Dayton Tennessee. I noticed a business we passed called Monkey Town Brewing Company.  That seemed like an odd name. DH mentioned the famous trial against a high school teacher for teaching evolution was held in Tennessee and maybe somewhere nearby. I consorted with Google to learn this 1925 case took place in Dayton at the Rhea County Courthouse. July 10th will mark the 92nd anniversary of the landmark Scopes Monkey Trial.

While summer is under way, this Cathy wants to play. Not-so Wordless Wednesdays will be few; meaning limited linking time, so I decided to not add my linky party. I hope you’ll include a link back in comments for me and others to find your photo shares, though. 😉

Now for all you #BoTBers and other mewsic enthusiasts, I’ll share the outcome of my last battle but first let me pass on a little mews bulletin…

Starting next month, some players including myself plan to cut back participation. I decided to step down for the rest of the summer. If you subscribe to my post via email then you won’t miss a thing other wise mark your calendar for my BoTB return on September 15th. 😉

Alrighty, it won’t surprise any of y’all to know who the winner is in my A Father’s Day Tribute Showdown.  I threw three contenders onto center stage to rival for that coveted golden mic award. The battle nearly left one daughter out and the other only gathered a few votes making this an easy steal for…

Final tally: Carnie & Wendy (my pick) 10 votes, Jen 1 vote, and Roseanne 2 votes. Thanks to everyone for playing along!

You’re invited to visit Stephen for a complete list of BoTBers to see how their battles went last time. This is Curious as a Cathy signing off this YouTube Wilson (Carnie & Wendy) Phillips (Chynna) playlist .

Have a funtastic summer and join me on the dance floor “freebie style” with Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me!

  1. I totally understand laying low this summer. I’ve been doing that since May. It was completely unintentional in my case, but nevertheless…

I’m interested in that brewery in Tennessee. I don’t drink beer but my husband does. He’d probably love to visit!

    1. Mandy,

One of the best places we’ve had donuts was in south Maine at Congdon’s Restaurant & Bakery. In our immediate area, Krispy Kreme is a fairly relible place to get good donuts but we prefer an independent shop called Dippin’ Donuts. We stumbled upon a new place on the west side of town called Status Dough. We ate there once. They had a few we liked but their varieties are limited. I hope to try them again to form a definitive answer on the place. Dunkin’ Donuts is our least favorite place. They used to be really good about 25 years ago. At one point the chain in our area disappeared and then they came back several years ago. Now there are more locations in town than there was in the early to mid-80s but the quality is well below average. There’s nothing special about their donuts. They still have good coffee, though.

Your mention of the 1925 “Scopes Monkey Trial” inspired me to post a couple of things I wrote about it 12 years ago. If interested, you will find them here…

As usual, things were not really as portrayed to We The People. In other words, we were propagandized yet again.

    1. Stephen,

I don’t know too much about the Scopes Monkey Trial. I thought it was interesting to stumble upon the landmark and courthouse. It’s nice see pieces of history. Thanks for sharing your link. I will head over to read your article.

  3. I read about the Scopes Monkey Trial and am still dumbfounded that this poor teacher had to go through this sideshow because some people had issues. Inherit The Wind is an excellent film and the teacher is played by Dick York-the first Darren Stevens

    1. Barbara,

It’s great doing things with my best friend in the whole wide world, my DH! It doesn’t matter what we do, just as long as we’re doing it together. 😀

  4. I found myself thinking the same thing when it comes to summer blogging! However I tend to go M.I.A for over a year which then turns me just lazy! This time around I’m going to try not to get so distracted!

    Awesome post as always!

    1. Karine,

I will eventually get to the point that I need to come back full swing. Meanwhile, I’m enjoying my down time. Have a good weekend.

  5. A very decisive win in this Battle, CATHY. Well, that’s how they go sometimes.

Sorry to hear you won’t be BOTBing with us again until September 15th. That’s a long time from now. But… I’ll be here for it.

    1. Stephen,

A decivie win does happen often but I like it when the battles are closer when the slightest tip means victory for one over the other. Maybe when I return I can pull together a closer race. 🙂 I’m sorry I’m taking a long break but I just feel that I need to do this. I’m not completely leaving Blogosphere but severely cutting back on posting. Thanks for understanding, my friend.

  6. Here’s to summer and the change of routine! The two times the blogging world goes silent: summer, and the holiday season. Well, not silent. More like dormant. I’m slowing down for the summer too, but that’s more because I have to, not because I want to. =) Wishing you the best summer!

    1. Crystal,

Yes the blogging world does creep to a near halt in the summer and the holidays but that’s really a kind of good thing. People need to break away to enjoy other interests. Enjoy your time with the restless kids!

  7. Hi, Cathy!

I love to start my day with your mewsical selections, and I enjoyed the songs of the popular 90s girl trio Wilson Phillips. I read that the talented women reunited in 2004 and are still performing together this year. I always had a crush on Chynna because I loved her short hairdo and the fact that she looked so much like Mama Michelle. Hard to believe Chynna will be age 50 next year and Michelle turned 73 earlier this month.

In your band battle I enjoyed all three acts, but ranked Carnie & Wendy third behind the other two contenders whose performances I enjoyed more. Therefore I am one of the few and the proud who helped you prevent a shut-out. 🙂

Thank you for putting sweet mesic into my noggin as I begin a new day, dear friend Cathy. Here’s wishing you and DH a safe and funtastic summer!

    1. Tom,

I wasn’t familiar with the name, Michelle Phillips and you know how horrible I am with this sort of thing. What an interesting discovery that Chynna’s Mama is not only an actress but one of the singers in the 60s band, The Mamas, and the Papas. I really appreciate you pointing this factoid out! I am working on sub-theme for Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me on our off theme weeks (freebie pick) in which I hope to spotlight mewsical kids of famous mewsician dads and I can easily work in famous mewsician moms, too. It’ll be great fun to spotlight Chynna Phillips and Roseanne Cash in future posts. Enjoy your summer and stay indoors where it’s a lot cooler, my friend!

  8. Not sure that I’ve exactly been to Dayton, but I know I’ve been pretty darn close if I haven’t been there.

Not surprised that the Wilson girls took the win, but all the song versions were quite good.
