Battle of the Bands,  Monday's Music Moves Me

Mewsic Moves Me with #BoTB results & a new-to-me artist, Laura Veirs

July 15th, I asked all of my kittens and dawgs to vote in More Than A Feeling BoTB showdown. This isn’t an exclusive poll for only BoTBers, it’s meant for anyone to weigh in and I hope you got a chance to have your say so.

I pitted two new-to-me contenders against each other in this round. It was No Mercy vs Hit The Lights. I must admit it was a tough choice for me between these bands. No Mercy is a near copycat of Boston, except with a more disco vibe. I don’t like punk rock generally. Everything I’ve ever heard resembled screaming and banging, but Hit The Lights didn’t sound like this. The lyrics and music were a bit faster than No Mercy’s. My preferred music habits tell me to go with what I like best but Hit The Lights’ zippy version mimicked Boston’s style not losing the original’s identity. Who do I go with?

Ok, I must stay true to myself. I’m giving my vote to my first choice and dominator this battle with a sweeping victory of 15 to 2,  No Mercy!

Congratulations and here’s another song by the winner!

Don’t fret, if you missed out on the vote. You’ll get another chance to play along at the first of the month. That being said it’s now time to hit the dance floor with the 4M chicks! This week’s theme is freebie choice! I’m sharing a new-to-me artist, I stumbled upon recently. Let’s give a round of applauds for Laura Veirs!

Ms. Veirs is an American folk singer/songwriter who lives in Portland, Oregon. I hope you enjoyed this sample. You can learn more about her by visiting her website or following her on Facebook or Twitter.

I appreciated the chance to step in for Naila Moon this month while on vacation. It was a pleasure to co-host with the Monday’s Music Moves Me crew. This is one super bunch of gals who can call on me anytime. Thanks, my friends you rock! I invite you to join the ladies and myself by adding your music post to the linky party and boogie with the gang!

What mewsic are you listening to lately? I’d love to know what songs are moving you, so please feel free to tell me in comments. ?

It was an honor to be a part of y’alls day. I hope you’ll decide to come back for my mid-week Not-so-Wordless Wednesday post. Have a tunetastic week!

Colette, I’m glad you got to stop by for a little boogie time. I like No Mercy, too. It amazed me that they won by such a large margin, though. Oh well, have a good weekend, my friend and keep your chin up. God is watching over you!

Where Do You Go – No Mercy
I know this song. Now I know why the artist sounded so familiar. It was a great song to play.
Glad I picked the winner this time to. Win-Win for me.

    • Cathy Kennedy

Lee, yep, you’re totally right. The last two BoTBs were like this, too. I don’t know, if that’s a good thing or not. Oh well, enjoy your vacation and be safe!

  • Myke Todd

Boy, I took a No Mercy beating on that contest.

Enjoying your Laura Veirs selections. That she could step into the mix with Neko Case says volumes for her.

    • Cathy Kennedy

Myke, this battle was heavily in favor for No Mercy, but the rivaling band did a great job. I’m glad you enjoyed Laura Veirs. It’s nice discovering new artists. I wasn’t familiar with Neko Case before now, either. Or, I don’t think I was. I may have to listen to more of his music to jog my memory. Thanks for dancing over today, I’m boogieing on over to your place now.

Steve, I had not heard of No Mercy before my last BoTB showdown, but I really like their sound and Where Do You Go is a great song. I’m glad I picked one you like. It amazes me how many new-to-me artists and songs I’m exposed to all the time. It makes giddy like a kid in a candy store. I never know what sweet surprise I’ll find. 🙂 Thanks for popping in for a dance, next stop your place!

    Hi, Cathy!

Isn’t is wonderful how many great artists there are to discover and share with each other? I never heard of Laura Veirs but I love the purity and clarity of her voice and her folk baroque style of mewsic. Thank you very much for posting a few of her recordings.

For the next few weeks I will be hosting a steady stream of house guests from out of town and out of state and won’t have a great deal of time to spend on blogging. However, I will surely make time to vote in your next band battle, if not on the first, then shortly thereafter. I am looking forward to it.

Have a wonderful week, dear friend Cathy!

Tom, you’re welcome my friend. I’m delighted you enjoyed the introduction of this new-to-me artist. Enjoy your house guests, but if you get a chance to stop in then I’ll certainly look forward to your reaction to my artist picks (I still don’t have this ironed out) and see who you go with. Thanks for popping by for a visit; I’m hopping over to your place now. Have a good week!

I had a feeling they would win but not by such a landslide. No matter if it’s close or not I always enjoy these battles
