Wild Wednesdays

Grand Ole Opry

One of the things DH and I did last month while staycating, we took the daytime Backstage Tour of the Grand Ole Opry.

We started off in The Circle Room with a 15 minute film presentation that gave some of the Opry’s history.  Toward the end, the old artists closed by singing the  Opry’s signature song, “Will the Circle Be Unbroken”, which caused my eyes to weld with tears.  The sudden memory of watching this particular portion of the TV show as a kid with my parents made my heart ache having just lost Daddy the previous month.

I’ll give you a quick guide backstage.

The Grand Ole Opry symbolizes wholesomeness and goodness, values I treasure.  Taking the Backstage Tour touched on memories from long ago and it brought to mind my blogger friends who share a love of music with me.  I’m grateful for having the opportunity to do this with DH.

Speaking of which, DH and I going to a Country Christmas at the Grand Ole Opry next month with Trace Adkins, Mandy Barnett, Kathy Mattea, The Gatlin Brothers, Charlie McCoy, Riders of the Sky, and other unbilled acts to celebrate the holiday season.  This is something we’ve talked about for years.  With tickets in hand, our seats are located slightly off center on the floor toward the back and to make sure our experience is the best, we bought ear plugs designed for concert goers.   We’re super excited we’re finally going to do it!

My BOTB results posted a wee bit earlier this morning, if you’re looking to see how things turned out.  I hope you’ll join me for Friday Funnies.  Until then, have a wild and wonderful day! X💋X💋, Cathy

Sounds like a wonderful way to enjoy the season. One of my aunts toured the Grand Olde Opry years ago and enjoyed her trip to Nashville. I’ve been through (or near Nashville) on trips back when I lived in Arkansas but had never stopped. I think it would be amazing to tour, just for the history. Alana ramblinwitham

The Grand Ole Opry sees a lot of tourists. When we were there, we met a lady from Norway or Sweden which I thought was interesting. It turns out that she was an exchange student and her US family later on moved to Nashville whom she kept close connect with and that’s why she was familiar with the Opry. Another interesting tidbit is she was or is friends with the producer of the Hee Haw production. 🙂

I went to the Grande Ole Opry as a child and would love to go there again. I am not an avid fan of country music but do enjoy some of the songs. Trace Adkins has a great voice and I hope you and DH have a wonderful time. 💖

That’s neat that you went as a kid. You ought to go again. I’m the same, not avid fan but there’s some songs I like and there a number of artists I really like as people. As a group, country musicians seem more down to earth than many others.

I agree country musicians seem to be more down to earth, and there are a few that I like. but rock and roll is still my favorite genre, especially the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

I want a purple couch like Porter Wagoner’s!

Love that picture Archie Campbell drew. He was clearly a talented man and it extended long past telling the story of the Pee Little Thrigs…

      John,

I need to refresh my memory on Pee Little Thrigs. I do remember the skit. I don’t know how he got through the story telling without trippin’ himself up or breaking up. lol Thanks for the reminder!

I’ve never been to the Grand Ole Opry though I’ve gone past Ryman Auditorium once and long ago shortly after Opryland opened I delivered a load of stuffed toys there. Guess I’ve never felt enough draw to lure me to the Opry and now considering where I’m living I kind of doubt that I’ll ever go. Nice that you all got to visit and are even going back for that Christmas show. Have fun!

I’m so glad you’ll be making the trip, Cathy! 🙂 It obviously means a lot to you. Although not a huge country music fan, I know who Trace Adkins is. He has a wonderful baritone voice.

      Debbie,

I wouldn’t say I’m a country fan but all that history and the legends who performed at the Grand Ole Opry is so impressive that even this rock n’ roll gal at heart can’t turn away the chance to see a live performance. 🙂 Trace Adkins warm baritone voice is soothing like honey for the soul. I’m looking forward to this magical moment and I thank you for your help, dear friend!

      Sandee,

Thanks for visiting and for adding me to your WW link up. If you ever get this way, do try to visit some of the cool places in Nashville. I’m not a country music listener generally but I do appreciate the talent over the years and the history is just awesome!
