Don’t Put Away Your Wooly and Sweats!

Don’t put away your wooly and sweats just yet. Accordingly to my northern friend, we have her to blame for the shift in cooler temperatures.

Our nights have cooled off some, but drastically? Nope! Here in the Tennessee Valley, our nightly lows are hovering fairly comfortably around the upper 40s to low 50s mark. Not bad for early spring.

Had I been the one to put away all of my winter stuff then we would be experiencing a Dogwood Winter about now. So, if you’re mad about the weather shift then see Patrice from Everyday Ruralty. Speaking of which, why not grab a cup of coffee and join me as I hop over to Patrice’s Chats on the Farmhouse Porch!

Today’s questions are…

  1. What was your favorite book as a child? Can I pick my favorite book I read to my children? If so, then this would undoubtedly be the Uncle Remus collection. I loved reading about  The Classic Tales of Brer Rabbit. To add a pinch of lively color to our read-aloud sessions, I would change my voice to resemblance of the characters with that deep south dialect. It was equally enjoyed by my wee ones and mom, alike. These are some of my fondest memories spent with my kiddos, snuggled on the sofa with a good book.
  2. Dark chocolate, Milk Chocolate, or White Chocolate? What’s not to like about any of these chocolates? I love chocolate period, but if I have to pick then I’d say I prefer dark chocolate. It can’t be too bitter-sweet if I eat it plain, but if it has nuts or fruit in it then I like it very dark just as long as its very smooth. Lake Champlain Chocolates from Vermont has some die for dark chocolates! One of my super favorites is Hazelnut 5-Star Bar.
  3. What’s your biggest “pet peeve” when it comes to your kitchen? I don’t have pet peeves anymore about the kitchen. I’m just thankful for any help I can get. Years ago, I hated when someone didn’t stack the dishes right in the drainer. That drove me just a bit crazy. I’m all that picky these days. Everyone has their own style. The important thing is, some one’s willing to help and for me to try to see the good.
  4. Do you use any type of water filter in your home? (Whole house, faucet mount, or pitcher) We have used a Doulton under-the-sink water filter for our drinking water only. We’ve used this for years. The city water is good, but this gives us the added protection plus it helps to cut the chlorine taste down some during the summer months when it’s so strong.
  5. What’s the herb you use the most in cooking?
  6. The most common herb I use is black pepper. It seems strange to think of it as a herb, since I regard it as a spice and that’s right terminology, too, I suppose. Usually when I think of herbs, I think basil, rosemary, chives, oregano,…These herbs only get used when I make spaghetti sauce or other Italian dishes. Much of my everyday cooking only requires basic seasoning – salt & pepper. I’m a simple kind of girl, really.

My dad used to read Brer Rabbit to me when I was young, including all of the voices. I’d forgotten that. Thanks for the memory!I agree with you on question 2. You have a lovely attitude about question 3- I need to chill!I hope you have a great week!

I go through phases with my chocolate preferences. I’ve only recently come to appreciate dark chocolate but I don’t think I ever turned any of it down. LOL
