Monday's Music Moves Me

Don’t cry in your rootbeer

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee at Comedy Plus

Welcome to Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me on Sunday!

This week’s theme is “Musical Acrostics!” In honor of the birthday of Charles E. Hires (1851-1937), the first commercial brewer of Root Beer (George Jones).

But, wait there’s more and here’s where the fun begins.  John wants us to build a playlist in which the first letters of the songs spell out “ROOT BEER.   Are you ready to dance?  Hit play and chair boogie with me!

My Rootbeer playlist includes these song titles in track order: Roundabout (Yes), Oye Como Va (Santana), Over The Hills (Led Zeppelin), Tears In Heaven (Eric Clapton), Bad To The Bone (George Thorogood), Every Breath You Take (The Police), Eye Of The Tiger (Survivor), & Runnin’ Down A Dream (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers)

That was a lot of fun. Initially, I misread acrostic as acoustic, so I looked for these sorts of songs to build my playlist. Luckily, that didn’t matter because regardless of what kind of mewsic you go with as long as you spell out root beer then you have an acrostic. Yeah, I didn’t know that, so John taught this kitten something new.  🙂

Please readthis is a mewsic linky party, which means all participates are sharing songs that one can listen to from YouTube or Vimeo and a not a post about mewsic or mewsicians.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

On behalf of the 4M crew, we’re happy to have you join our party today.

[tweetthis]Hit the #MondaysMusicMovesMe dance floor with me! @xmasdolly [/tweetthis]

ATTENTION!!! Would you like to be an honorary co-host? If so, then leave a comment or send your request by email!

Until we meet on the dance floor (theme: your choice song picks) next time, have a boogietastic week!

Especially if it’s a root beer float! 🙂

      Binky,

I’m not sure if I remember that led Zeppelin song either but I remember the album cover but I’m not sure if that’s coming from recent memories or long past. Thanks for boogieing by today! 😉

    • Cathy Kennedy

      CK,

Sometimes my song picks lead me indirectly down a slow path. I often do not even realize it until someone says something. Thanks for boogieing with me slow style. 🙂

  • sandy

Wow i hadn’t hear Roundabout in a long long long time. I like your list for Rootbeer. For some reason I couldn’t get George’s video to play – probably my slow internet today.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Sandy,

Thanks for boogieing by. Sometimes YT has a fit on playing and I find you have to go to the site to get it to work. It’s great having your visit, my friend!

Well, that was fun. Having a heck of time this weekend. I have been hacked once again! Somebody out there does not like me!!! 🙁 All my passwords have been changed. A total bummer! I have to figure out something. Anyway, I can do comments that isn’t a problem, but some other stuff I need to be signed into etc. Anyway, we had some same songs girlfriend. Ahhhhhhhhhhh Great minds think alike as they say! Thanks for the boogie! BIG HUGS

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Marie,

Man, that’s a bummer you were hacked again! They say to use a strong password with upper & lower case letters, special characters, and numbers. You may need to rethink your passwords if you don’t have all of these elements. Do you have security software on your computer like Norton? I know Microsoft has some built-in security protocols that can be set up but when we use our Microsoft computers then we make sure that we have the latest version on it. Best of luck to you and thanks for dancing with me, my friend!

      • Marie Moody

Cat… I have everything, but guards… you know like computer guards (like bodyguards)! LOL I have Norton. I’ve always had Norton… hmmmm maybe that’s it! Maybe I need something else other than Norton! hmmm I also use all those numbers, upper & lower case, special characters a plenty, numbers etc. all I need now is to bury my computer in a volcano & dig it out every time I want to use it. Oh well, maybe it just wasn’t meant to be. I don’t know!!! Now on top of everything I get a sore throat! Bummer! I swear…. somebody up there don’t like me for sure!!!! Love you girl… back to changing all my passwords AAAAAAGAIN!!!!!! HUGS

        • Cathy Kennedy

          Marie,

I’m not sure which Norton product you have but make sure it’s a complete Internet security package that not only products you from viruses but blocks malware and computer hackers. At one time, Norton was revered as tops in the industry. I’m sure whenever we decide to use our Microsoft based computers again then I’ll double-check to make sure this is still the case and buy the newest version. Your router is also very important to your computer security and can be a weak link in your system. Make sure yours is at least uses the WPA protocol and if you’re using a wireless router fix the settings to hide your wifi signal. Don’t let just anyone use password protect it. WPA2 is the newest more secure routers. Whenever ours goes this is definitely what we’ll get. Here’s hoping things improve on your end, my dear! xx

I never heard of the root beer song, and what a way to start your post (along with your original Snoopy art – loved it). I actually knew all the songs on your playlist, and will just mention that I can’t even bear to listen to “Tears in Heaven”. Not sure why, but I am in awe of the strength some rockers, including Clapton, have had in the face of tragedy. And no, I didn’t know about either Huey Lewis or Eric Clapton losing their hearing.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Alana,

I love Snoopy! I knew I had to sketch him to go along with this week’s theme. 🙂 Clapton’s ‘Tears in Heaven’ makes me sad to hear it but it’s also a beautiful song. Thanks for boogieing with me. I’ll be over to dance with you asap!

  • DrillerAA

Well, you crushed it in one song. Great choice, but I am glad you chose to play on as Santana, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, well just all of the songs are great selections Boogie on.

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend! I hope your August break continues to go well.

I enjoyed this set of songs, Cathy. Once again you played songs that are in line with my taste and also introduced a a new-to-me song that I enjoyed. I was not familiar with the George Jones country – novelty – rock ‘n’ roll song “Root Beer,” first released on his 1962 album The New Favorites Of George Jones. I am out of town this week visiting family and left my record research books at home. Online I found no evidence that Geo. Jones song was released as a single or made the pop chart, but I liked it!

John’s acrostic challenge is a fun idea and you did a fine job with it. In my vinyl collecting years I owned albums that contained “Roundabout” and “Oye Como Va” and they became familiar favorites. I am also familiar with Led Zep’s “Over The Hills And Far Away.” I remember Eric Clapton’s mewsic video “Tears In Heaven,” a song from the soundtrack of the 1991 crime drama film Rush starring Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jason Patric, because the mewsic video played often on the MTV style station where I worked at the time. The song was written after a period of seclusion brought about by tragedy and loss. In a span of a few months Clapton’s manager, two of his roadies and his friend Stevie Ray Vaughan were killed in a chopper crash and Clapton’s four-year-old son fell to his death from a New York apartment building. It’s amazing that Clapton was able to pull himself together and return to mewsic after all that. Our TV station also ran the videos for George Thorogood And The Destroyers’ hit “Bad To The Bone,” the Police smash “Every Breath You Take” and Survivor’s “Eye Of The Tiger.” They were all heavily requested by viewers. “Eye Of The Tiger” is especially significant to me because we used the song in the series of week long motivational seminars in which I participated. “Eye Of The Tiger” was one of the “anchor songs” played during the program to empower seminar attendees and prepare them mentally for the “firewalk” – a barefoot stroll across a bed of burning wood coals.

You did a great job here, dear friend Cathy. Thanks for the morning mewsic and memories and enjoy your week!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Tom,
Thanks for joining me today on the dance floor. Clapton sure was dealt a heavy hand with the loss of his son and friends. It’s a testament of his inner strength. I’m not sure if Clapton was a Christian during those dark days but if so then that had to give him much peace. Did you know Eric is losing his hearing? I stumbled on an interview in Christian Today from last year in which he shared the news. This is the second mewsician in recent months that I’ve learned this about with Huey Lewis being the other. Have a boogietastic week, my friend!

  • Mary B

    Belch oops, Pardon Me!

Yup, Root Beer has that effect on me! This was a super fun setlist. And guess what?!? You and I didn’t pick the same songs 🙂 Have a great week. I hope to be around, but might not be. Mys SIL passed this morning (Sat) and I may need to go to Montana this week.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Mary,

Thanks for joining me on the dance floor. I’m sorry to hear about your SIL passing. We’ll keep you and your family in prayer. It’s a time of loss in our family, as well. Friday I learned my uncle’s wife who’d been battling cancer for about year crossed over to the other side. My heart is so heavy for my uncle, his three daughters, sons-in-law, and grandkids. It’ll be super hard on them but we all know Loretta is with the Lord free of suffering. Perhaps, listen and boogieing to some good tunes this week will do us good. Don’t worry about not getting to play along. Everyone will understand. Be safe in your travels. XX
