Monday's Music Moves Me

Deen Castronova on the 4M dance floor

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee at Comedy Plus

Welcome to Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me on Sunday!

There’s been a lot of loss lately.  A few months back, a childhood friend passed, then one of my childhood’s friends’ lost her husband, and then within a week of each other my second cousin and my uncle’s wife crossed over to the other side losing their fight against cancer.  I wanted to memorialize each day and when I spotted Mike Golch’s FB mewsic share last week of a Duran Duran cover then I knew I had to pass it on here.

My heart aches for the family and friends lost but I know some sweet day that I’ll see them all again.  Please lift these families in prayer.  I know it’s gonna be a hard road for days to come.  Thank you!

In May I came across a new2me supergroup, Revolution Saints. The heavy rock vibe isn’t my usual listening pleasure but I really dig Deen Castronovo’s vocals, so I pulled together a short playlist mostly him with Johnny Gioeli for this week’s your choice song picks.   Are you ready to dance?  Hit play to do a little chair boogieing with me!

Please readthis is a mewsic linky party, which means all participates are sharing songs that one can listen to from YouTube or Vimeo and a not a post about mewsic or mewsicians.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

On behalf of the 4M crew, I want to thank John for being a swell honorary co-host this month and say, you’re welcome to do it again anytime!  You’re invited to link up and join the dance party!

ATTENTION!!! Would you like to be an honorary co-host? If so, then leave a comment or send your request by email!

Until we meet on the dance floor (theme: Build a playlist of songs that spell LABOR DAY) next time, have a boogietastic week!  X💋X💋, Cathy

Ohhh Cathy! So sorry about all those losses! Sure love the tribute you crafted, though. Just think of all those extra guardian angels now watching over you. Keeping you and your family in my prayers!

  • Alana Mautone (@RamblinGarden)

I am sorry for all your recent losses. It is happening to so many around me, especially my first cousin who lost his brother and his wife less than a year and a half apart, and my husband losing his mother, his last aunt and a first cousin. . My cousin served on a submarine during the Vietnam War and his fellow vets have been such a support. I know you will be strong in your faith and I send you sympathy and healing thoughts tonight..I had not heard of Deen Castronova but it turns out I’ve heard him on some Journey songs – he sounds like Journey, doesnt he?. “Set the World on Fire” was especially awesome. Cathy, I hope you have an enjoyable Labor Day weekend. Aging ain’t for sissies, it is said. Thank you so much for everything you do for Music Moves Me!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Alana,

Yep, aging isn’t for sissies. lol I’ll be okay. I get rather somber when death knocks on the door of those I love. It makes me realize all the more how short life is. I know one day, we’ll all be reunited on heaven’s shore. Thank you for your sweet thoughts. Yes, Deen really does have that Journey vibe in his current mewsic. I really liked discovering him. Have a good weekend, darlin’!

wow, that’s a lot of loss lately – so sorry to read this. I love Joy’s version of the Duran Song and I also really liked the one after that. I listened to each one for a bit but am going to go to youtube and save them to listen and enjoy again when I have more time. Did you write that beautiful poem and paint that angel? Very pretty.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Sandy,

Yes, I wrote the poem. Last year, I used my iPad to sketch/paint the angel and works well to express my sentiments. I printed the poem to send to my uncle which I hope speaks comfort to him. Thank you for your kind words and visit. I hope you have time to listen to the playset at a more convenient time.

  • Rain Frances

I’m sorry for your losses Cathy and that you feel so sad. This is life so they say. As we get older it seems we lose more. Oh I remember Ordinary World, I loved that Duran Duran song! xx

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Rain,

Unfortunately, we’re in that season of life where many pass before us but it’s never easy. The only thing that brings peace is knowing those I love are in a better place.

  • Debbie D.

How devastating to have so many losses in such a short time! My heart goes out to you, Cathy. 💔 Sincere condolences. You have crafted a lovely tribute.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Debbie,

Thanks, darlin’! I have peace knowing those I love are waiting for me on the other side and one day, a long time off I hope, I’ll see them again. Thanks for your kindness and visit, Sweetie. 😘

Unfortunately, I know a bit about loss. This last one has been especially rough on myself and the family. My SIL will be laid to rest on Wednesday, but that is only the very beginning of a situation that involves lawsuits and heartache. I can’t go into a lot of detail, but it’s probably a good thing I won’t be able to attend the services for my SIL as I may end up in jail. Thanks for the great setlist today! It really has helped me get through some of this nightmare.

    • Cathy Kennedy

Mary, I’m very sorry to hear about the situation facing your family. I’ll keep you & yours in prayer. God knows everything. Mewsic is a great stress buster and it heals the heart. Thanks for dancing with me, my friend.

    • Cathy Kennedy

Michelle, I think we all hope for a little more peace in the coming new year. It’ll be here before we know it. Thanks for dropping in on me this evening.

  • Sandee

So sorry about your losses too. Big healing hugs.

Love the picture. Sometimes Mondays are awful. When you retire not so much. Loved the kitten on that turn table. Cute.

Sorry I’m so late today. We boated from Rio Vista back to our slip and then drove home.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Love and hugs. ♥

  • John Holton

I kind of liked Deen Castronovo and Johnny Gioeli. You don’t find a whole lot of drummers that can sing.

The song at the beginning was profoundly sad. One of the things I’ve always noticed, though, is that when a loved one dies, even though their body’s gone, they stay in the minds and hearts of all the people who loved them, and of all the people they loved. Sometimes I think that’s what’s meant by “eternal life.” It’s helped me get through, anyway. Very sorry for your losses…

    • Cathy Kennedy

      John,

Memories of those we love definitely stay with and carry us through the days until we see them again one day in heaven. Thanks for sharing the dance floor with me, my friend.

  • Cathy Keisha

Catchy tunes. We liked the first best. Read the comment that said they were members of Journey which was one of my least fave classic rock bands. TW liked that drummer guy cos he reminded her of an ex.
There are people dying today who never died before and I’m sorry that they’re your friends and family. TW’s cousin’s hubby died suddenly earlier this year.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      CK,

Yep, someone somewhere is crossing from this life to the next and as some pointed out, we’re at that phase of our lives where we know more people making that journey. Thanks for joining me on the dance floor, my dear! 😉

  • songbird1329

Cathy, I am sorry for your losses. It’s amazing how music can comfort us when we need it. And then we turn around and music can make us joyful again. I hope you find your comfort, and your joy.

  • Marie Moody

Well, Girlfriend my condolences for your lost friend. Friendship comes & goes just as our family does too, but they’re never really gone now are they for they always live on in our thoughts, mind and hearts. We all have suck good memories of our childhood friends now don’t we? Anyway, I’ll add a little extra prayer for you tonight dear. Now that the weekend is over we must go on and go on with our Music Monday which always helps, right? So, I had my youngest pop in from Missouri so my other daughter came in from Oaklawn (about 40 minutes from me & Missouri is about 5 hrs. and we all went swimming & out to lunch. The next day after church Missy & I went to Goodwill. We always have fun there. So your tunes are new to me, but I’m really luvin them. Well, gotta get up early tomorrow Dave has doc’s tomorrow & we’ll be getting some results of tests so hopefully we’ll now find out what’s wrong with him. Goodnight sweetie and have a great week! HUGS

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Marie,

Sounds like you had a fun weekend. I hope things go well with Dave’s doctor appointment. Hopefully, you learn what’s going on with him. Thanks for taking the time to boogie with me, my friend! xx

I’ve gone to more funerals in the past 10 years than in the previous 50. I guess it’s part of the experience of getting older.

Love the song “Ordinary World”. I’ve thought of using covers of it in a BOTB post. Williams does a beautiful job with it.

      Lee,

We don’t go to many funerals since most of our family live out of state but there’s plenty of people around us who don’t know well who have passed on. Being surrounded by death is part of the growing older scenario because the longer we live the more of it we’ll see. I just pray that the folks we don’t know had a purrsonal walk with the Lord and are sitting in paradise now. ‘Ordinary World’ would make a great BoTB. I’d say go for it. I have no clue how many covers of it are out there but I certainly love Williams’ version.

  • -Eugenia

Cathy, loss of friends and loved ones is difficult to handle but we must remain strong because that is the way those we lost would want us to be. Great mewsic, girlfriend, and keep boogieing!

  • scr4pl80

I know Deen Castronovo from Journey and recently saw him earlier this year with Neal Schon’s Journey Through The Years. Really liked this too! Thanks for sharing. Hugs to you. That’s a lot of losses at one time.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Janet,

That’s cool you got to see Deen Castronovo in concert. I’m really lovin’ the things I’m discovering about band members such as Castronovo. The talent is unbelievable with these old rockers and it’s nice seeing them move on to other things. Thanks for your sweet words, my dear!

  • DrillerAA

The Joy Williams selection is extraordinary. Many of us have reached that season of life that is touched all too often by the passing of someone we know and love. Many of our friends are waging wars unknown to us, but their battle rages on and they teach us how to pass from this world with dignity and grace. Have a blessed week that is comforted by the God of all creation.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Driller,

Isn’t that the truth about reaching this point in life were many of those we love passing before us. Unfortunately, I have another aunt who is fighting cancer. I hope she’s able to beat it but I know everything rests in the Masters’ hands. I know not what His plans are but I know He holds my aunts in the palm of His giving her strength and peace of mind. It’s us who must deal with the aftermath of losing family and friends. I can’t imagine going through this without God in my life or knowing that my loved ones didn’t have Jesus in their hearts. Thanks for your kind words and for sharing the dance floor with me.

    • Cathy Kennedy

Ahh, thanks for the hugs, Brian. There’s nothing a the furry comfort of a good furriend. You’re right mewsic has great healing power. Thanks for boogieing by. 😉

    Hi, Cathy!

I know you pretty well by now, dear friend, and I sensed that something was wrong in your world this past week. I am terribly sorry to learn that you have suffered a series of losses among family and friends. I offer prayers to you and the others who are grieving. The Michigan born – Nashville based singer and songwriter Joy Williams brought tears to my eyes with her previously unreleased cover of the Duran Duran song “Ordinary World,” a piece that is especially hard to listen to in the context of lost loved ones yet a perfect pick for this sad occasion.

On a lighter note, a mewsical one, I thoroughly enjoyed the song set by Revolution Saints’ frontman Deen Castronovo, formerly of Journey. That old Journey sound came through on his collaboration with fellow rocker Johnny Gioeli on “Through.” Their song is pure rock bliss. I was even more excited about the heavier sound of “Sacrifice Me,” Deen’s duet with Senegalese hard rock artist Isabell Øversveen from her 2018 album Run With The Pack. I could listen to that one all day. Castronovo and Gioeli really do “Set The World On Fire” with their next song. The towering vocals remind me of 80s metal icon Ronnie James Dio. “Light In The Dark” by Revolution Saints is the ideal way to end the set, given that you and your family are in mourning.

I am thinking about you, dear friend Cathy. Please take good care of yourself.

    • Cathy Kennedy

Good morning, Tom! Thanks for dropping by yesterday and for the kind words regarding the many loses in my life. Wiliams’ cover of ‘Ordinary World’ fits beautifully and am glad you enjoyed it. I figured you would be familiar with Deen Castronovo. Although, I know many of the big bands by name I don’t often know the individual members. I recognized his voice, though. He really has the talent and I love his edgy rock vibe. I think I could listen to him all day. I’ll swing by to visit you in a few. Right now, it’s time to get DH up. Yep, I’m his backup alarm. lol Have rockin’ good week, my friend.
