Random Tuesday Thoughts

College Prep to DWTS

At the close of last week, the stress of everything kinda hit.  The head banging cartoon I posted on Thursday was precisely how I was felt. I think I may print the cartoon off just to serve as a reminder of what I need to do at times like this. However,  I’m certain it won’t help a headache in the aftermath. I won’t be able to tell the difference anyhow seeing how more times than not, I have a headache in progress.

Wednesday evening, I informed DH I had scheduled DS’s college placement test for Saturday morning. I knew this would have a 99.999% chance of getting changed and I was right. That’s when DH said, let’s shoot for the Thursday evening’s testing slot.

Just like that, I made a dash to the phone. I changed DS’s testing appointment from Saturday to Thursday all before the school closed for the day. Thursday evening we dropped DS off at the college where he spent three hours while we ran errands. The three hours allotted was not necessary, as it took DS only an hour to complete. We didn’t learn this until after the fact when we picked him up. We didn’t get into bed until very late.

Friday dawned earlier than any of us wanted. Stumbling out of bed, I made coffee and we all had cereal for breakfast. Again, we dropped off our son.  This time at the health department. No not for three hours. This time, we gave his appointment an hour. He had to get his first round of immunizations for Chickenpox and Hep B. I know what you’re thinking, “He hasn’t had Chickenpox!” It’s true.

The truth of it is, none of our kids EVER got the Chickenpox or at least we never detected any outbreaks and I’m certain if they had them, then we would have known it. Two infectious diseases which occasionally show up in the media, I felt needed to be covered was a vaccination against Meningitis and Hep A. These aren’t required for college entrance, but we felt these the benefit would outweigh the inconveniences latter should he get exposed to these diseases.  He fared well much to my surprise with little soreness and no fever.

DS got his prom ticket over the weekend to learn he won a spot for a free limo ride. Their theme this year is Hollywood. They’ll be doing the limo rides around town, then dropping the kids off at the hotel where they can step out on the red carpet just like the stars with a photographer snapping pictures.  Gosh, we never did anything this cool! This should be tons of fun for the kids.

Over the weekend, we got his casual photos for invitations processed at Target. They did a fabulous job. Lucky for us, we ran into a glitch with the online photo system. It forced us to go to the store to get the ball rolling. It worked out in our favor money-wise. We paid less than $4 for 50 wallet prints and online it would have cost $26. I think we’ll go into the store to have his cap & gown photos printed, too.

Sunday brought some good news when I stepped on the scales for my weekly weight in. Normally, the scales hate me.  This week, things were in my favor as it reflected a 2.5-pound loss. I was ecstatic, to say the least. Now to keep up the ratio of weight loss every week through this month and then you’ll know I’m one happy camper.

We had an early Easter dinner at Calhoun’s on Sunday afternoon. Oh, I’m sorry you don’t know what a Calhoun’s is.  Check out them out on the web here. Normally, we try to avoid restaurants for any special holidays. There is just too much craziness with the swarm of people in one place which brings out my OCD and claustrophobic personality. Thus making for not so much of a relaxing time for me. This is why I recommended an early dinner, as in a whole week early, with our daughters and their husbands. We all had a peaceful, enjoyable dinner, which was simply perfect!

Monday started rather docile. Funny, how things can change, though. Around 2pm,  I heard a loud, dull pop. My first reaction was, “Eh, something hit the house.” Part of me wanted to simply shrug it off and not think anything about it.

DS was outdoors clearing brush and doing yard work. My instincts told me to investigate. That’s when I discovered the glass in the top half of our storm door shattered into zillions of pieces.

“What caused this,” you ask. We are all clueless. The only explanation is a bird flew into the glass. There is no evidence left none what-so-ever.  I’m just thankful I wasn’t standing in front of the glass when it happened. I often times do this to check on my DS progress outside. This little fiasco took almost two hours to clean up. Despite my diligent efforts in picking up all the tiny scattered pieces indoors and out, my DH & DS still managed to find a bit of broken glass in our yard. In my defense, the reason for my major goof is, the sun was blindingly bright yesterday. I just didn’t see it all.

Who’s watching DWTS this season? I love this show! My favorite professional male dancer is Derek Hough. This year, his partner is the sexy TV’s Extra host, Maria Menounos.

Kym Johnson is my favorite female pro dancer. This season, she’s paired with Jaleel White. At first, I didn’t know who Jaleel was. He looked familiar and yet I couldn’t place him until last night. That’s when I figured out, he played Steve Urkel from Family Matters who made these words famous, “Did I do that?” Now, do you remember? Wow, what a change!

Who do you think will win the Mirror Ball trophy this year? This is the first season in a very long time where I like pretty much all the stars. It’ll be great fun to watch them all in action week after week. Monday was short and wild, but it ended on a good note.

You are always so busy. Congrats on the 2.5 pounds, I know just how good that makes you feel. Your pet peeve, my mother always said,” I thought you had a better command of the English language”, when I swore. Never around you, I promise. LOL

Oh Cathy, I’m glad to hear things are easing off a bit for you.

Let everything go you can…the house doesn’t have to be spotless…cereal is okay for dinner.

Sounds like you had a busy week.
My girls had chickenpops… but my neices and nephews have not becuz they recieved the vax. It’s a good thing so that later they don’t have to worry about shingles! That stuff hurts!!

What a week! Oh my. So glad no one got hurt when that glass shattered! And the prom idea sounds fantastic. The group I went to prom with rented a limo, but there was no red carpet thing. We just knew better than to drink and drive back then.

And I am proud to report that you won’t find any f-bombs on my blog. LOL And if I should drop one IRL – I hope you would smack my head!

    Hope this week is better!
