Monday's Music Moves Me

Unlikely Artists Performing together on #MondaysMusicMovesMe

Hop over to see Sandee for more Awww Mondays fun-spiration!

Good morning, Kittens and Dawgs! This week’s theme is “unconventional duets” song picks.  Although many of the 4M members are still recovering after surgical procedures, I invite you to join the party with my fellow co-hosts: XmasDolly (Party Coordinator), StacyAlana, & Colette. This month’s honorary co-host is our very own, Stacy! Now it’s time to hit the dance floor (ONLY link mewsic posts) below.

[tweetthis]I’m boogieing to “unconventional duets” song picks with the #MondaysMusicMovesMe gang.  Come hit the dance floor with me! @xmasdolly [/tweetthis]

What tunes are spinnin’ on the turntable?

I vividly remember when Paul McCartney & Michael Jackson paired up in the post-disco song Say, Say, Say (1983).  I don’t know why it struck me odd but it did.  Perhaps it was Paul was more of classic rock fellow and Michael was more of a pop-dance kinda of an artist.  To my surprise, the song was pAwesomely good making it Jackson’s 7th top-ten song within a year.  I don’t know if I had any thoughts one way or another when Al Green & Anne Lennox recorded their #2 1988 hit Put A Little Love In Your HeartMan, I had forgotten Georgy Porgy is late 70s Toto hit featuring Cheryl Lynn.  The song did very well across three charts – Billboard Hot 100 (#48), R&B (#18), & Dance(#80).  I loved Sheena Easton’s 80s pop tunes. I had no clue that she and Prince joined forces in the 1987 US Billboard Hot 100 #2 hit,  You Got The Look. Wikipedia says that Sheena wasn’t credited on the single release so maybe this is why I didn’t know.  Winding up today’s unlikely dueting artists I found another Michael Jackson pair up.  This time with bubblegum pop artist Britney Spears at the peak of her career performing live The Way You Make Me Feel.  One commenter wondered how live Spears singing is on stage. What do you think, is she lipsynching?  I couldn’t really tell.

I need to excuse myself from Blogosphere today.  DH has some doctor appointments but I will boogie with you first thing tomorrow morning.  Keep those tunes playing, your body swaying, and I’ll be boogieing over to see you soon.

Did you vote in my November 1st BoTB?  If not, then I’d like you to cast your vote for your favorite artist in the showdown between the King and the Queen of the Road. Don’t forget to bring your coffee cup with you tomorrow for another edition of Cathy Chats.

X💋X💋, Cathy

Kicking myself that I forgot all about Toto and Cheryl Lyon because I have not heard that song in forever, and I’m swaying to it. Michael Jackson and Britney Spears? I couldn’t tell. My guess would be “yes” – just because. I never even got to the other songs because I was so excited about hearing Georgy Porgy once again, lol.

good grief, is it Friday already?? How did that happen? Bigger question: how does that keep happening?? Life moves so dang fast! Anyway, I finally made it here. Great duets here Cathy!
I love how you kicked it off with a duet including Michael Jackson and ended it with another duet featuring him. I really like both of them. I have to say I was unfamiliar with Say Say Say and had no idea that he collaborated with Paul McCartney! That was a cool video. And I loved the surprise visit from Brittany Spears. Have always loved “The Way You Make Me Feel” song and it was a cute performance the two of them put on.
And who doesn’t love Prince?! I had no idea Sheena Easton was on that song either!
Those two powerhouse performers, MJ and Prince, gone. Way too soon. The world is left with a catalog of great songs by both…but can you imagine how many more there would be if they were still with us??
I consider myself very lucky to have seen both of them in concert…IN THE SAME WEEK! Back in the 80s when I lived in Washington DC. What a week that was!
And what a playlist this was!
Thanks for a fun dance Cathy.
    Have a great weekend,

    Michele at Angels Bark

Hi Cathy; I always thought Paul McCartney with Michael Jackson was a strange pairing, yet oddly, their voices blended well. They did another one called “Black or White”. As for Michael and Britney, it looked like she was lip syncing, to me. Sheena Easton was a big part of Prince’s sound in the ’80s. It was thanks to him that she became popular on her own, as well. Thanks for sharing these interesting duets. Have a good rest of the week.

      Debbie,

I remember ‘Black or White’. Did it come out the same year? My memory is fuzzy. Cool tidbit about Prince & Sheena’s connection. I had no idea. Yeah, I think Britney is probably lipsynching. There aren’t many artists who sound good live, only the greatest like MJ can pull off live singing.

      • Debbie D.

Oops; sorry, wrong song! MJ did another duet with Paul called “The Girl is Mine”, from 1982. I think the old pros generally sound good live, but the so-called “pop stars” who do a lot of dancing and gyrating have a harder time with it.

        • Cathy Kennedy

          Debbie,
‘The Girl Is Mine’ came out the year Knoxville hosted the World’s Fair. Years later when Jackson did his Victory tour he had a show in town. I wanted to go so bad but the price was too much to suit my comfort. We did drive downtown to see if we could steal a peak but they had a points of visibility covered. We could hear him, though. 🤗

Hi Cathy, just stopping in to say hello. Hope all is well in the blogging and writing world for you. I am haven’t done much other than to publish some requests. It’s great to see how the group has jelled together the way it has and who is still going strong. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving! Sincerely, Amanda@selfsagacity

    • Cathy Kennedy

Amanda, what a wonderful surprise to find you at my place. Yeah, the 4m gang is hanging strong through the years. We’d love to have you back boogieing with us again but I understand how things change on a Blogger’s life. Thank you for the well wishes for Thanksgiving and I hope you have a blessed one, too. You’re always welcome any time, my friend!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Brian,

No worries for the late dance. I’m running way behind and looks like that’s going to be the general pattern most of this week. lol Thanks for boogieing by!

  • XmasDolly

Hi girlfriend, and thank you first and foremost for taking that girl off of our blogs. Something like that I personally think it should be kept to yourself, but that’s my opinion, but freedom of speech is there, but maybe that speech should be left to your own blog period. Not when it’s just music!!! Love your tunes and I seen Paul McCartney all day everyone likes him with Michael Jackson, but you had others too like HOLY COW… I MEAN DAM… Al Green & Anne Lennox SOMEHOW I NEVER PICTURED THAT ONE FOR SURE! hehehe… personally I think that was a fun theme. I learned a lot today! HUGS THANK AGAIN MY LOVE!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Marie,

You’re welcome. I would’ve taken the link in question down sooner but I first put the ‘NO MEWSIC’ tag on it when I spotted it this morning before I got your request. Anywho, I hope it was just an accidental link up but if not we caught it quick enough. My schedule has been altered for tomorrow so I may not get to make my rounds until Wednesday. Thank you for boogieing with me, my friend.

    • Cathy Kennedy

Mimi, things did go well at DH’s appointment. In fact we may now know why he’s experiencing pain below his left eye. We first thought it was sinus related but that was ruled out. I suggested he ask about sensitive nerves being a possibility. The ENT said it’s possible so when he went to the dentist he poke around isolating the area and wrote him a script for steroids. I hope this takes care of the issue he’s had for a couple of years. Thanks for visiting!

  • 15andmeowing

Great song choices. I had forgotten about the Paul Mcartney/Michael Jackson song. Great spark!

  • Kim

I remember all those duets as well (except for the Toto one. I didn’t know who Toto was till “Rosanna.”) I wonder why Sheena wasn’t credited on the “U Got The Look” single? That’s a fantastic song!

Where can I find the Cathy Chats prompts? I found a category once, but can’t remember if there were prompts there or if that’s even how Cathy Chats works.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Kim,

Cathy Chats prompts are at the very top of my home page just above my header. I haven’t added any new topics in quite some time but need to get back to doing that. Perhaps, I’ll have some news on beginning next week. Things are a bit hectic this week and I’m going to be way behind making my rounds. sigh Anyhow, I’m so glad you stopped by for a boogie!

  • Comedy Plus

Oh I love this video. What a great pairing.

I’m got my dancing shoes on and I’m toe tapping all over the place.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays.

Have a fabulous day, Cathy. Love you. ♥

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Sandee,

Thanks for linking me up. Boy, you sure did save my bacon but you’re always so good about doing just that! I’m glad I got your toe tapping with these songs. 🙂

    • Cathy Kennedy

      John,

No worries if you missed the beat on the theme. I’m guilty of doing that all too often. We don’t care if you got tunes to move us, then we’re there with bells on ready to boogie with you! I’ll see ya soon, my friend!

  • Stacy Uncorked

Great choices, Cathy! I’d forgotten all about the pairing of Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson, as well as the one with Toto and Sheena! Brings back great memories! 🙂

Good luck with your hubby’s doc appointments today – and thanks for the reminder to count our blessings! 🙂 Have a great week!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Stacy,

I forgot about most of these songs that’s why I use Google for inspiration with these themes. lol Man, do I love the Internet! 😉 All went well yesterday but I’m gonna be away from Blogosphere again today. 🙁 Have a good day, my friend!

  • -Eugenia

Happy Monday and great selection of unconventional pairings! I remember “Say, Say, Say” and really enjoyed it. With 2 mega stars, how can the song not be a success, even though some have matchups flopped. Have a great week, Cathy! 🙂

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Eugenia,

Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney are two giants in the business. It’s so sad that MJ is no longer with us. They did a furtastic job with ‘Say, Say, Say’. They paired together on a couple of other songs. The same year this one hit the charts, they did The Man which I don’t remember. Thanks for boogieing with me, dearie!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Patrick,

Meme isn’t mine for you to steal but I borrowed from the net, too. 😀 It’s an excellent reminder for us to take time to thank God instead of always asking for something especially in this season of Thanksgiving that we’re now in. 😉 Have a blessed day and thanks for stopping by to boogie, my friend!

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

This is a great idea for your 4M, dear friend! I remember three of these unusual pairings, the McCartney-Jackson collaboration, “Georgy Porgy” by Toto & Cheryl Lynn, and “U Got The Look” by Prince & Sheena. It was and is typical for major recording stars like Paul, Michael and Prince to indulge themselves on mewsic videos by having long intros to the song, sometimes with acted scenes to set them up. “Georgy Porgy” was a hit in clubs during my second bachelorhood and I enjoyed hearing it again after all these years. That mewsic video for “U Got The Look” was heavily requested by viewers of the MTV style station where I worked in the 80s. New to my eyes and ears this morning are the Al Green – Annie Lennox duet “Put A Little Love In Your Heart” and the live Michael Jackson – Britney Spears duet, both of which I thoroughly enjoyed. On the Michael – Britney number, it clearly dazzled the audience to see those two giants on stage performing together. It appeared they both did some actual singing, although I suspect a recorded instrumental backing track that included their vocals was also used to beef up and “sweeten” the sound.

Thank you for the Monday morning entertainment, dear friend Cathy!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Tom,

My faithful friend, it’s great seeing your visit so early yesterday morning. Everything went well with DH’s appointments. At his last one, the doctor said he wanted to do something with tooth and asked that he come back today, so I’m going with him and won’t be around for visits again. There’s nothing wrong, just a step that needs to be done that he didn’t have enough scheduled time. You so often know all of my songs and I’m not surprised that these or most of them aren’t new to your ears. Thanks for the dance, dear friend. 🙂

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Mike,

Thanks for dropping by to boogie on Monday. I will stop by your place asap but I’m a bit behind with yesterday’s absent and now my unscheduled routine change today. Fear not, I will get around to dancing with you. 😉
