King vs Queen #BoTB showdown

Posted on November 1, 2018

Hello, Kittens & Dawgs! Michele inspired today’s battle with one of her 4M themes last month.

King of the Road (Roger Miller, wrote & recorded 1964), popular crossover record hit charting  #1  on the US Country Chart & US Easy Listening survey a well-ranking #4 US Billboard Hot 100.

Queen of the House (Jody Miller, recorded 1965) penned by Mary Taylor, Billboard Hot 100 at #12 and #5 Country Single Charts. Incidentally, she was not married to or related to Roger.

Who gets your vote, King Roger or Queen Jody?

How do I play BoTB? It’s really super simple!

  1. You VOTE. Leave your FAVORITE pick in comments.  Everyone is welcome to vote. There is no wrong vote, except if you DON’T vote.
  2. Be interactive. Tell me why you like your favorite pick. (optional)
  3. Make me happy. Tell a friend, share the below tweet. (optional)

[tweetthis]I just voted in the ‘King vs Queen #BoTB showdown! #RogerMiller #JodyMiller #country[/tweetthis]

In my side menu beneath the BOTB banner is a list of all participants where you’ll find more awesome battles underway!

DID YOU VOTE? No! Okay, but if you leave WITHOUT voting, I won’t be held responsible for what happens to your computer. Just saying is all. 😂

Mark your calendar for November 12th to learn how I voted and to see if your favorite artist is named the winner.  I’ll see you on the 15th for my next BOTB showdown!

I’m MIA in Blogosphere until Tuesday. I’ll get around to ya eventually and I hope you’ll stop by tomorrow for a few giggles in my newest Friday Sillies post!

      Melissa,

You squeezed in just in time but I so did I with most of the other battles. lol Gee, I’m not feeling like the Queen of the House lately!

This is a fabulous song and I know it well so I wasn’t sure how the gal would do but…I give my vote to her. Her voice is what sold it for me because she has a strength witha but of sultryness. The video is abhorrent and I know the male execs decided to create this.

      Birgit,

I don’t care who’s idea it was to put those chicks in skimpy French maid costumes because I think it’s a whole lot of fun! 🙂 lol Jody’s voice has just the right amount of sultriness to match the strength of her vocals. Thanks for voting, my friend!

Of course, Roger Miller. You pitted someone else up against one of the greatest songs of all time. Jody Miller’s song is good though, ideal. Reminds me a bit of an idealized “Did I Shave My Legs For This” by the now inimitable Deana Carter.

      G Dogg,

Is “Did I Shave My Legs For This” really a song? Let me check this out. BRB Holy Smoke, it is a real song! LOL Oh this is just great fun, too. What a contrast to Queen of the House! I’m gonna share it for anyone who hasn’t seen or heard of it (like me)! 😉 Thanks for stopping by to vote!

    Hi Cathy,
Cool concept using the very cool answer song to Roger Miller’s classic. I love Roger Miller’s song. And I’m thrilled that my recent post utilizing his song was the inspiration for this battle. 🙂
I wasn’t at all aware of Jody Miller’s parody song. I love it! And she has an awesome voice. I feel bad that she’s not getting more props in this battle. She’s getting my vote. And not because I feel bad for her here. Roger Miller’s is a fabulous classic and it’s high up on my list of great songs but I think Jody’s creative comeback is equally good and because she has such a solid and strong voice, she’s getting my vote.

Really fun battle! Everyone seems to be having fun battles today. I love it!

      Michele,

Yeah, I feel bad for poor Jody, too. Her parody is a lot of fun. I think certain circles today might take great offense of the song and video which is a shame because, in my opinion, it’s just a lot of fun!

      Mimi,

Yeah, I know what you mean. Although, I often say I rule this house as in being the Queen I know that I’m not because it’s evident that I’m the servant. I’m always doing something for someone else. Oh, sure I do things for me but I overwhelmingly spend my time tending to the needs of my family and I really wouldn’t have it any other way. 🙂

For me, it’s gotta be Roger Miller all the way. Long live the King. His songs AND personality always appealed to me.

    Howdy, CATHY!
    It’s that me: STMcC.

King & Queen — loved yer theme. This was a clever concept.

Vote-wise, though, I gotta go with ‘The King Of The Road’.

Roger Miller is a part of who I am. He was one of my Pa’s very favorite singers (along with Nat King Cole, Louis Prima, and Dinah Washington). I grew up hearing the album ‘Roger Miller’s Golden Hits’ played in the house on a regular basis. And I’ve often said that my writing style was strongly influenced (unconsciously) by Roger Miller’s lyrics and Bob Dylan’s lyrics on the album ‘Bringing It All Back Home’.

My Pa had a zany sense of humor, which is why Roger Miller appealed to him so much. And my sense of humor is probably part my Pa’s passed-on DNA, and all of those countless hours hearing Roger Miller singing songs like ‘You Can’t Roller Skate In A Buffalo Herd’, ‘Dang Me’, ‘Kansas City Star’, ‘England Swings’, ‘Chug-A-Lug’, and of course ‘King Of The Road’.

    Fun Battle, Cathy!

      Stephen,

Until I did this battle I had forgotten about how popular and how many fun songs Roger Miller recorded. I didn’t even piece it together until now that he’s a bit of comedian with his mewsic lyrics. Thanks for voting!

      Janet,

I rarely watch the video unless the lyrics are part of the clip. I didn’t even watch Jody’s vid. It’s hard to imagine skimpy clothing on a mommy of small ones but some can pull it off. 🙂 Thanks for voting!

My hubby and I frequent a restaurant with a piano bar about every 2 weeks. The entertainer, maybe in his forties, sings “King of the Road”! My vote goes to Roger Miller and “King of the Road”. It’s a great song and I love the lyrics, which take me into a different time frame. I’ve always been curious about what prompted the lyrics.

OH that’s so cool you guys go to a restaurant with live entertainment. There was a place like that in town that we love to go on occasion but then it closed. That was such a bummer! Anyhow, Roger Miller does transport one’s mind to a simpler time. Thanks for voting!

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy November to you, dear friend! Guess how many kids came to my door for trick-or-treat. Ready? ZERO! Not a single one! Our new residence is located on a heavily traveled street, one that is apparently deemed too dangerous for little ones to walk along on Halloween night. Can I interest you in three unopened bags of Milky Way bars? 🙂

It starts with a great song, and “King Of The Road” is a great song. I remember it well. The Roger Miller album of the same name was the gift my parents gave me for my 15th birthday along with a new stereo to play it on. Roger’s is the only version of the song I ever heard played on my local radio station. It was only in the last five years or so that I discovered the recordings of Jody Miller. They include a few convincing covers including “Queen of the House,” an answer song to Roger’s. I have found that Jody’s mellow, country-influenced singing style is an acquired taste, but I have acquired it. I predict the majority of votes in this contest will be cast for Roger Miller, but I am going to swim against the current and give my vote to Jody because I believe she was an underrated artist and because I enjoy Scopitone films in general and hers in particular. I vote for Queen of the House Jody Miller!

Thank you very much, dear friend Cathy, and have a happy Thursday!

Well, it’s sure taken me long enough to get around to respond, hasn’t it? I guess the no-show on Halloween was a shocker for y’all. Now, if we lived closer to you then you might tempt me with those Milky Way bars. 😀 Thanks for casting your vote for Jody!

      Lee,

Roger Miller’s “King of the Road” I grew up listening to but I didn’t even know about Jody’s parody until recently. I’m not sure how I made that discovery now. It’s possible I read about it in someone’s comments or I just stumbled on it. Regardless of how it crossed my path I knew that I wanted to put the two artists/songs on center stage for BoTB. Thanks for voting, my friend!
