#WW Picturesque Lake

To the casual observer, one wouldn’t think there is much to do In the hills of western North Carolina, but from this picturesque lake in Pineola.

There’s plenty of activities for the outdoor enthusiast, like fly fishing, golfing, hiking, skiing, horseback riding, camping, biking, or photo-ops.

Please remember,  I’m doing one week off and one week on with my mid-week photo posts till life settles down, but it doesn’t mean I’m not around. I pop in and out, replying to comments and visiting those who link up or comment. So, please let yourself be known! ?

In honor of the first day of fall and good things to come…cooler temps, hot chocolate, bonfires, hayrides, …., here’s a look at things from October of last year.

I don’t know why, but when I saw your photo I thought of “Indian Lake.” I think it was an song from the family group, Cowsills. Do you remember that song?

    • Cathy Kennedy

Dixie, I’ve heard of Indian Boundary Lake and that’s in North Carolina. *smack forehead* Oh, you’re talking about a name of a song! Dopey me!!! No, I’m not sure that I remember this tune or not. I’ll have to double check. Sometimes the name doesn’t always ring a bell with me. *BRB* However, DH knew the song when I asked him and he began singing the chorus to me. Still nothing. So, I listened to the Cowsills and that didn’t help, either. But, I did find some interesting trivia at YouTube. Did you know this?

Peaked at #10 on the Billboard charts in 1968. ” The real-life inspiration behind the hit television series The Partridge Family, the Cowsills — comprised of teen siblings Bill, Bob, Barry, John, Susan, and Paul in tandem with mother Barbara — were one of the biggest pop acts of the late ’60s, scoring a series of hits including “The Rain, the Park and Other Things” and “Hair” with their angelic harmonies and sun-kissed melodies. The group’s origins lie with Bill and Bob, who as children began their singing careers covering Everly Brothers hits. Given guitars by their father, Navy man William “Bud” Cowsill, the siblings soon recruited younger brothers Barry and John to play bass and drums, respectively, and as Beatlemania dawned, the teen foursome began performing live at school dances and church socials throughout their native Newport, RI. Soon, the Cowsills landed a regular weekend gig at the local club Bannisters Wharf, and in 1967 recorded the single “All I Really Wanta Be Is Me” for the Joda label. The record generated little response, however, and after an appearance on NBC’s The Today Show, the group signed to Mercury Records, where they issued three more singles to negligible interest.

Thanks for sharing an oldie and for stopping by!

Indah, Pineola and the surrounding towns are quaint. If you return to NC then be sure to plan driving the Blue Ridge Parkway. It’s gorgeous! Thanks for stopping by for a little visit. Now, off to see what’s happening at your place!

Marie, so glad you liked! It does have that romantic sense. I think it’s gonna be nice to live in a community as pretty as this and if I had the money, then I would consider building a second home nearby. The mountains in western NC is a fabulous spot to relax during the summer months. Have a good weekend. I hope to dance with you on Monday!

Hi, dear Cathy! Photo-ops galore! That must be one of the most picturesque locations in the whole country. Thanks for showing it to us. I am very happy to see the first day of fall. Here in Florida it means only 3 more months of temperatures above 90! 🙂 I love cooler temps, bonfires and hayrides!

    Happy Wednesday, dear friend Cathy!

Tom, I would not do too well in Florida. I think the only time I would like it there is in the winter. We were fortunate to visit good friends of ours in Naples a couple of years ago in March. The days were filled with blue skies and temps around 80º with a gentle cool breeze. The mornings and evenings were even a bit nippy at times. I really liked that a lot! The funny thing is when we returned home, the next day we got snow showers and that late March. So, weird! Have a good day, my friend!

what a beautiful setting. I definitely would not mind camping there! And I’ve always wanted to try fly fishing. I bet it’s really peaceful. I had my first pumpkin spice latte yesterday in honour of Fall. Just one that I made at home with Starbucks packs. But I did add the whip cream topping — just this once. 🙂

    • Cathy Kennedy

Les, I’ve made pumpkin spice lattes a few times already and I may have to do it again tonight to mark the return of fall. Sounds like a good excuse to me, how about you? 😀 Anyhoo…I did switch to the fat-free version of Reddi-Whip to minimize on the calories and I always use sugar-free coffee flavorings. I hardly notice a difference over the normally higher cal coffee drinks. Yes, this lake and the surrounding are was quite peaceful. Judging the residences ages that we saw it looks like a retirement community or it could even be a second home for folks who have the finances. I wouldn’t be surprised by the later because we learned many Floridians who have the means have summer homes in the western North Carolina mountains, as well as other parts of the country. It must be nice, huh?

Claudia, thanks for letting me know about my linky. This is the second time this has happened recently. I always have the time set appropriately, but somehow it gets changed. *scratch head* I’m going to pay particularly good attention next time I set it up. I’ll add your WW linky to the party.
