Wayback Wednesday

Angela from Mommy Time Out  & I want to welcome you to Wayback Wednesdays.

Today we flashback to 2008!

What do I most remember?

  • Daughter #2 engaged to a serviceman and preparing to move to the west coast to be with him.
  • Daughter #2 breaks off engagement.
  • Daughter #2 graduates from our home school.
  • Daughter #2 starts freshman year at the University of Tennessee.

While my personal world was going in different directions, the world had its own things going. Check out Top headlines of 2008! But, if you’re like me I tend to dwell on things which bring me happiness – movies & music!

We bought a 50″ plasma TV at Best Buy during one of their special promotions, which we were invited to and were fortunate to take advantage of. The savings was phenomenal! This allows us many hours of entertainment watching movies from our extensive DVD library. One of my favorite flicks made Roger Ebert’s Best Films list that year.

We have been American Idol fans since the get-go. 2008 AI winner, David Cook, went platinum with these two songs the same year.

Oddball news of 2008 was the breaking story of a pregnant man. What? Thomas Beatie, a trans-gendered man was born a woman, created an international double-take when he/she announced of his/her pregnancy.

More strange news for this year, the virtual game Second Life Divorce makes headlines.  Briton Amy Taylor and her husband had a lavish Second Life wedding ceremony in 2005, but when she learned of her husband’s indiscretion with a prostitute (a mother of two from Arkansas) in Second Life she viewed it as cheating and filed for a real divorce in the British courts.

In 2008 the top buzzwords were:

  • Change
  • Bailout
  • Hockey mom
  • Fist bump
  • Nuke the fridge
  • Staycation
  • Rickrolled
  • Puma
  • Tweet
  • Topless meeting
