Tuesday Talk Time

Tuesday Talk Time ~ Remembering Shirley Temple

Did you hear the news? Shirley Temple has died at age 85! I loved watching her old movies as a child. What a little cutie-pie she was with those curly locks and deep dimpled cheeks! Shirley Temple’s amazing talent and wholesome goodness won the hearts of millions.

Shirley Temple’s career spanned from 1935-1949. She was married twice. Once at age 17, which ended in divorce and produced one child ~ a  daughter. Her second marriage in 1950 was to US Navy Intelligence Officer, Charles Alden Black, Sr. They had two children together and were married for 54 years till leukemia claimed Black’s life in 2005.

Little known facts about Shirley Temple…

  • The politician ~ In 1967, an active Republican in the California party, she ran for the seat in the California 11th district congressional district when the post became empty after J. Arthur Young’s death. She lost the race.
  • Breast cancer awareness ~ In 1972, Shirley Temple was diagnosed with breast cancer. After the removal of the tumor and a modified radical mastectomy, she went public with her ordeal in McCall’s magazine making her the first influential women to openly speak about the disease.
  • Business woman  ~ Served as board member for several large enterprises such as The Walt Disney Company, Bank of America, Del Monte, National Wildlife Federation

Thinking back on a young Shirley Temple’s filmography, the one I am particular fond of is, Heidi. This is the only movie that we owed. Our children, especially our daughters, loved this wholesome timeless classic. As a youngster, I recall sitting in front of the TV on Saturday afternoons watching old Shirley Temple movies. Although I loved the all, I don’t remember the titles of any. Take a walk down memory lane to re-visit a complete list of her movies here.

A Hollywood legend has been swept up by an angel to live beyond the stars. This morning,  as we think on the memories of America’s little sweetheart, let’s say a prayer for the family she leaves behind. May God’s grace carry you through this time of sorrow!

I’ll leave you with my last thoughts this morning of my segment of Tuesday Talk Time with this…

Now, grab a cup of coffee and follow alone, as I visit my Canadian bud, Rorybore!

This morning’s TCC prompt, she wants to know…

What are you loving? You can be as mushy, sentimental….. or not, as you want.

I’m loving how DH now have time to snuggle on the sofa watching TV. Having a family temporarily places things like this on hold. Small ones either piled in daddy’s lap in the recliner or nestled close to mommy on the couch. This is all good. As the Bible says, there’s a season for everything. Now that the season has brought on the empty-nest syndrome, DH and I are enjoying precious quiet moments from the past entwined on the sofa like two love birds. It kinda makes me think of our dating years, except there are no restrictions to our making out.

Speaking of loving, I found an ancient poem I wrote to DH while we were dating. It was really, really bad. Not the sentiments behind the words, but the grammar. *blah* After re-reading, it inspired me to give it a slight make-over. Just a word of warning, I am not a poet. If you can get pass this little flaw, then allow me to share with you….

I LOVE YOU

I love you

More than words can say…

You are the

Sunrays in my heart,

Wind across my face

I love you

More than words can say with …

Every gentle breath I take

Each kiss I place

All sweet wishes I make

I love you

More than words can say because…

Prayers were answered

God loved me

He gave you to me

I love you

More than word can say…

When the day is through

In the presences of the stars and moon

All that is left is…

I love you!

StacyStacy Uncorked is taking a blogging hiatus. You may recall, she and her family moved back to her home state of Washington last summer. For the pas several months, they have lived in Stacy’s parents’ basement. So, when they finally settled on a new home recently, it thrilled them o begin the last leg of their journey. Stacy promises me to return to Blogosphere in March. All of her loyal friends, including myself are looking forward to seeing her soon. Until then, I continue doing what I always do… visit my other buds!

Have a terrific Tuesday!

I’m so sad!! She was such a joyful presence in so many lives. Just before my grandma passed, we would go visit and sit watching Shirley Temple movies with her. It was such a special time with my grandma – and to see that these movies still brought her joy – even in the midst of health problems – at the end of her life, as they did in the beginning. So sad 🙁

But I do love your poem!
And I feel very encouraged that one day Left Brain and I can snuggle on the couch again without anyone diving on top of us, or elbowing us in the ribs, nose and other …um, delicates. LOL
