Battle of the Bands,  Tickle Me Tuesdays

#TickleMeTuesdays giggles & Summer’s End #BoTB Results

How was your Labor Day weekend? We kept to our usual traditions.  DH’s Friday off coincided with Labor Day so we enjoyed a 4-day weekend which made it especially nice. 🙂

I got to try out a new recipe, No Churn Cookies and Cream ice cream I discovered in June.  I tried a no churn recipe in recent years but wasn’t impressed with the outcome but this homemade, no churn version came pretty darn close to some of the premium ice cream brands you can get in the grocery store.  I definitely plan to make this one again.  I didn’t snap any pictures because I couldn’t get the ice cream out in pretty rounds. I had to use my spade. It really set up hard after 24+ hours in the freezer.

We did taste comparisons of a few products this weekend. We tried two different turkey wieners and two different potato chips.  I bought some Oscar Myer Turkey wieners and Ball Park Turkey wieners for our Labor Day dinner. I thought hotdogs were fitting for the holiday. How’s that you ask, simple to honor DH who works like a dog. lol And to all other hard working Americans. 😉   We wanted to try the turkey wieners for a healthier version to traditional hotdogs.  I like regular hotdogs better but both of the turkey dogs were good.  I can’t say for sure if I have a favorite but if I were to pick one based on calories alone then I’d definitely pick the Ball Park. Each wiener (50g) is only 45 calories (0 from fat) whereas the O.M. dogs (45g) are 100 calories (60 from fat) each. I figured the O.M. dogs would be tastier but they weren’t.

Trying out two brands of potato chips had nothing to do with the need to cut calories back.  We get on these kicks sometimes where we like sampling two or more of the same product.  Actually, DH got into a potato chip mood after reading an article featuring locally made chips in various towns. We found two of them on the list Utz and Golden Flake, both classic style chips. The Utz chips are thinner, more fragile, and the potato flavor sort of lost. Maybe it’s the type of oil used.  The Golden Flake chips are thicker, more hardy, and tasted like potatoes.  The winner clearly according to our taste buds is Golden Flake.  We bought two other bags of potato chips but haven’t tried them yet. That comparison and review will happen another time.

Alright enough yammering about food.  Let me fill in on how my two cover artists, Phoebe Bridgers and Salvio Bartolomucci did in last week’s Summer’s End BoTB.

The majority spoke, the ballots reveal a 7 to 4 victory for Phoebe Bridgers !

I like sharing another sample of the winning artist. I have to be honest I couldn’t find anything I was crazy about. Her lyrics tend to be too dark to suit my taste or sometimes it just doesn’t make sense or a poor word (curse) choice.  Phoebe has a dreamy vocal quality. Her mewsic arrangements often sound pleasing to the ear but her material (lyrics) stinks. That’s my opinion, though.  In the end, I just went with a YouTube playlist of songs from her latest album, Punisher.

Please check with Stephen for a complete list of BoTBers with possible result posts.  Mark your calendar for my next battle on Tuesday, September 15th so to not miss out on the fun.

I’m a day behind in Blogosphere and I suspect this pattern will follow me all week. Oh well, I’ll do the best I can. Meanwhile, it’s time to grab a cup of coffee, then I’m heading off to visit Sandee for some Happy Tuesdays giggles at Comedy-PlusRandom Tuesday Thoughts with Stacy Uncorked, and checking out this week’s word prompt found at Eugi’s Causerie for the wannabe poet buried inside.   That’s a wrap for now but come back tomorrow for Wild Wednesdays where just about anything goes! 😉 X💋X💋, Cathy

I’ve been a vegetarian (NOT a “vegan”) since late 1985, so I can’t speak to hot dogs today. Although, in my carnivorous years, I LOVED Dodger Dogs. But… you’d need to go to Dodger Stadium in downtown L.A. to try those.

You probably don’t remember my BOTB comment, but I rather strongly disliked Phoebe’s singing. So, I voted for the “non-winner”. But I’m pretty accustomed to being on the “un-winning” side in BOTB contests so… no surprise here.

Although I won’t have another BATTLE OF THE BANDS match-up of my own until October 1st, I will certainly be here to vote on your September 15th contest. See ya then, my friend!!

      Stephen,

Well…I’m not going to downtown L.A. anytime soon so I’ll miss out on that taste test but I take your word that it was a good dog. What’s the difference in a vegetarian and a vegan? I would’ve thought they’re the same. I like veggies but I like having meat in my diet. Yes, I do remember you not caring for Phoebe. I disappointed listening to her mewsic. It’s baffling to find an artist such Phoebe who made a decent cover but everything else not so good to put it nicely. I wonder how singers make it in the industry but then I realize people can’t discern the difference between good and not so good anymore. Artists don’t have to be superior singers and they rely on studio magic to carry them to the stars. But even then you have to have a song that’s worth publishing. That’s how I felt after browsing through her YT selections. Very pitiful. Thanks for reminding me you won’t have a BoTB Oct. 1st and for coming by to check out these results. Maybe you’ll be on the winning side next time. 🙂

        >>… I’m not going to downtown L.A. anytime soon…

        You’re a very smart woman!

        >>… What’s the difference in a vegetarian and a vegan?

There are several different types of vegetarians. Technically, the “official” form of vegetarianism that I have adhered to since late 1985 is called “lacto-ovo vegetarianism”, and it is defined as “a person who eats vegetables, eggs, and dairy products but who does not eat meat” (and that includes fish and shellfish).

A vegan is someone who eats absolutely nothing that is derived from animals (e.g., no cheese, eggs, ice cream, etc.), and in most cases they also refuse to wear or use anything derived from animals (e.g., no leather, horse hair, feathers, etc.)

Frankly, “veganism” makes absolutely no sense to me, and I have long thought that it was more about liberal virtue-signaling than anything else. And, you know me… if there is ONE thing that I am NOT, it is a “liberal”!!

          Stephen,

Thanks for explaining the difference between a vegetarian and vegan. I like meat too much to be a vegetarian but I could be one more easily than a vegan for sure. You’re right it certainly doesn’t make sense. You brought to mind hippies when you described vegans to me. I wonder fit thee real die-hard vegans are the ones who thinks it’s a good idea to bath with dirt. DH was telling me something about something crazy like that and it just made me roll my eyes. It sounds very nasty and I wouldn’t want to be around an individual not keen on taking a bath.

Her voice is lovely, but you are right about the lyrics. That messes it all up, just like a pretty person behaving in an ugly manner doesn’t look so pretty any more.

Sorry, but the cat will have to read its own user manual, it comes preprogrammed!

We only buy beef hot dogs, not picky about the brand as long as they are beef. We love Utz chips. :)XO

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Ellen,

Now, I’m even more curious about trying beef hot dogs. 🙂 The Utz potato chips weren’t awful but didn’t have the robust taste as the Golden Flake chips. What one purrson likes another may not, so like all things it boils down to one’s preferences. 😉

  • tomthebackroadstraveller

…well Cathy, you and I live on two different planets when it comes to music, I sure don’t get out much. By the way in my neck of the woods, Zweigle’s natural casting pop open hot dogs rule, anything else is a mere wiener! Keep rocking.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Brian,

Another beef hotdog eater. Lee mentioned Nathans and Hebrew National which I associate with beef hotdogs. Are these brands that you’ve had or another? I’m curious. The beef wieners I’ve had which hasn’t been all that many times I didn’t care for but maybe it was just me at that moment and perhaps I need to try them again. I’m always open to the idea. Sounds like another taste testing opportunity if you ask me. 🙂

Hot dogs and I don’t get along at all. There are so many foods that I can’t eat anymore. Make me sick. It’s not fair. Oh well.

Phoebe just didn’t do it for me at all. Not a fan. It’s the way of music. You like what you like and not what you don’t.

There’s a cat manual for sure. It’s let your cat do whatever they want.

Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday,. Cathy Love and hugs. ♥

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Sandee,

What a bummer! It’s tough being restricted to foods. Often times certain things do not agree with our tummy’s but we generally do not feel sick. You’re right about what cat manual says…”let your cat do whatever it wants!” lol Thanks for visiting!

Usually when I buy hot dogs–not often–I will often buy Ball Park, but I also like the even more expensive brands like Nathans or Hebrew National if they happen to be on sale. I love hot dogs, but my wife doesn’t like to get them so much. I never buy turkey dogs, but I guess I don’t think about the healthful aspects either.

Good to see I chose the winning side.

      Lee,

I generally don’t like beef hotdogs. It’s been a long time since we’ve had either Nathans or Hebrew National dogs. I may look at those just for the fun of it. The BP turkey wieners were more expensive than traditional OM wieners even on sale but I’m glad that we tried them. I wish Walmart carried the BP smoked turkey wieners because if they did then it would be a whole lot less than grocery store pricing. Heading your way to see how your battle went down.

Hi, Cathy! Happy TickleMeTuesday, dear friend!

I can just picture DH enjoying a bowl of your No Churn Cookies and Cream ice cream. I clicked the link and soon found my mouth watering as I looked at the pics of the dessert served in that traditional ice cream parlor style glassware. I’m glad you and DH discovered turkey wieners as a potentially healthier substitute for hot dogs. Potatoes are an abundant crop in my home area, York County, Pa, and that is where Utz and several other brands of potato chips are produced. In the summer of 1968, I worked at the El-Ge (LG) potato chip company in West York. Employees were permitted to eat as many chips as they wanted, fresh and hot as they passed by on the conveyor belt. This included regular chips. waffle chips, barbecue chips and cheese corn! Can you imagine? Back then I could eat tons and never gain an ounce. I just gained five pounds merely thinking about it. 🙂

Thanks for reporting the final tally in your latest BOTB. I finally redeemed myself and wound up on the winning team with Phoebe. Take care and enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend Cathy!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Tom,

Turkey wieners, especially the Ball Park version ones are much healthier for you than traditional hotdogs. We liked them well enough and probably will continue to get them. We don’t eat hotdogs too often so really the unhealthy version wouldn’t kill us but everything you can do is a help in the long run. I remember you telling me that you worked in a potato chip factory. That had to be a fun summer job. I’ve never had fresh potato chips like you but they had to be fabulous and tons better than buying them off the shelf like we do. Like you just thinking about delicious foods seem to cause me to gain weight. It’s such torture! In my youth I could eat and eat without putting on weight. DH was the same way. The aging process really throws the brakes on one’s metabolism which is a wick curse. Whenever we indulge I just try to keep things in moderation. My battle tightened up but Phoebe had a three point lead over her contender. Other BoTB have been closer but this one wasn’t bad. Thanks for checking in, my friend. Have a good afternoon!
