Monday's Music Moves Me

The Year Was 1995

The year was 1995 – Thanksgiving weekend in my in-laws’ kitchen in southern WV with my baby boy An Awww Mondays share, hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus.

How has the weekend been?  I can’t believe tomorrow is the last Monday in June.  I don’t like when the days seem to evaporate but at the same time it’s makes me a wee happy because this puts September closer and I’m stoked about our upcoming vacation.

For my last theme of the month is in honor of DD#1.  She turns 34 this week and I thought it would be fun to build a playlist of songs from the year of your (my) 34th birthday.

The theme this week is Build a playlist of songs from your 34th birthday in honor of DD#1’s upcoming birthday this week.

The year 1995 playlist 1. Colors of the Wind ~Vanessa Williams 2. Kiss From A Rose ~Seal 3. Believe ~Elton John 4. Turn the Beat Around ~Gloria Estefan 5. Can’t Stop Loving You ~Van Halen 6. On Bended Knee ~Boyz II Men 7. Take a Bow ~Madonna 8. Fantasy ~Mariah Carey 9. One Sweet Day ~Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men 910. This Ain’t A Love Song ~Bon Jovi
4M design by Cathy Kennedy

This is a music linky party.  Your co-hostess are StacyAlana, and Me.   Every other week we have a suggested music theme (see weekly prompts here) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our music enthusiasts.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

DD#1 a month and half old

I will close with one of DD#1’s once favorite artists from her birth year, Enya’s 1988 Watermark album. Save

I got an email from Marie last week. She reports, her son has moved in to help her and Dave out. I know how grateful she is for the support of her family and husband, as well as each of you who faithfully keep her in your thoughts. She’s still on the mend but growing restless. Her computer is fixed. I suspect she’s ready to come back to Blogosphere on occasion but she didn’t mention when. I know she really wants to sooner than later. Send our girl positive vibes and prayers of healing. This is CAAC signing off, have a boogietastic week! X💋X💋, Cathy

Hidiho, we’re in, CK😸Those were some great tunes you collected from your 34th year, we especially liked Mariah Carey of that Year. Concatulations to your DD, hope she has a great Birthday🎉That picture of you and her is so beautiful. How time flies huh? Pawkisses for a Happy Weekend and thank you for your kind words you left on my bloggie. I’m aging, but in my heart I’m still the Little Binky you knew🐾😽💞

Happy birthday every to to your DD#1 <3 <3
My girls also celebrated their 14 and 24th birthdays last month, June. 🙂

Such a precious playlist, and all my personal favourites.

And such treasured photos of you and the little girl. Melted my heart.

I’ve been praying for Marie’s well-being and I hope she is back on blogosphere sharing her fun, riotous energies with love.

    Have a gorgeous week, darling.

    Big kisses and hugs xoxo

      Robin,

It was a happy coincidence that “Colors of the Wind” was a hit song this year but it’s a serves a dual purpose for the post with DD#1’s birthday celebration. All three of our kiddos loved the classic Disney animated movies. Last Christmas, we got our granddaughter four or five of the classic princess Disney films on Blu-ray. She loved them!

  • Debbie D.

Happy Birthday to your daughter, Cathy! You’ve shared some lovely tunes for the occasion and I enjoyed the photos of you with your babies. 🙂 Have an enjoyable week!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Debbie,

The 90s I don’t remember too much about the music and was happy to learn that I actually recalled more about the music than I realized. Isn’t it funny how your brain perceives things sometimes? I always get super sentimental when my kids’ birthdays roll around. The years just evaporate. When they were babies I could not see them as grown ups or how soon that would come. That explains why your parents and grandparents are so wise. They’ve seen everything first and know what we’re going through. Thanks for joining me on the dance floor, my friend!

Happy Birthday to your daughter. My niece just turned 34 earlier this month. XO

    • Cathy Kennedy

Thanks, Mimi! I’m not sure where the years went. It really feels like I blinked my eyes and the years disappeared. I hope she’s able to hold on to time better with her little girl than I could.

What special memories snd love the pictures. Your daughter was born the same year as my niece..er..brother’s child. ( she states she is binary and has not spoken to me since Sept. When she told me how insulting and judgemental I am). I think many daughters and morgers have a special kinship…I know I did with my mom. I love Enya so this was lovely yo listen to. Most of yhe songs you posted I don’t know but I do like the Elton John song.
Give Marie my heartfelt thoughts even though I don’t know her at all. She has had a tough journey for sure. I am certain she can’t wait to get movin’. Audrey was one wise lady.

          Birgit,

It’s sad when family don’t get alone. Hopefully your niece will see she’s not only hurting you but herself by not including you in her life. Sir Elton is always a favorite. It’s tough when you’re not well but I know Marie will be back in Blogosphere eventually. She just needs to take care of herself first.

Happy birthday to DD#! and I hope she enjoys the various birthday playlists on their way to her today and tomorrow. Also good news about Marie. I have to admit, the 90’s isn’t my favorite musical decade, but there are some good ones here. Gloria Estefan’s cover of Turn the Beat Around was fantastic! Elton John never disappoints. I also enjoyed the Mariah Carey duo with Boyz II Men. Hoping you all have a great birthday celebrating week.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Alana,

The 90s isn’t my favorite decade for music, either. In fact, I was pretty certain I wouldn’t find many that I knew and yet I found out I knew more than I first thought.

  • Sandee

Awww, what a great shot of your precious little one. He was a handsome little man. They grow up so fast.

    Love your play list.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

      Sandee,

My son could pick me up like a child. Oh how the tables have turned. In fact when I was so sick in 2013, he did carry me from room to room. He’s such a good boy! And, my daughter is still sweet and precious in my eyes. I can’t believe she’ll be 34 soon. Children grow up entirely too fast! Thanks for joining the party, my friend.

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Awww-some 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend! I hope you and DH had a nice week and are enjoying the weekend.

Awww… thanks for posting that flashback picture of you smooching your little boy at T-giving in 1995. He’s all grown up now and, if I remember correctly, towers over you. Happy 34th birthday to your DD#1. That’s a precious picture of mother and baby with flowers in the foreground. Yessum, the days, weeks, months and years do pass quickly.

I enjoyed your song block of 1995 songs, beginning with Vanessa Wms’ adult contemporary cover of “Colors Of The Wind,” a song from Walt Disney’s 1995 animated film Pocahontas, the lead single from the movie’s OST album. I remember Seal, but not the song in this set, nor do I remember that Elton John song. Suddenly it occurs to me that I am unfamiliar with most of these songs because, by 1995, I had left the MTV station where I had been keeping abreast of current mewsic as a regular part of my job, and had switched careers, becoming an executive recruiter. Immediately, I feel out of the mewsic loop. I got married that year and my mother died that year.

I do remember and very much like Gloria Estefan’s cover of Vicki Sue Robinson’s hot 1976 dance hit “Turn the Beat Around.” I posted Gloria’s mewsic video on my old blog several years ago. I can’t decide which version I like better, Vicki Sue’s original or Gloria’s more than capable cover. Van Halen, Boyz II Men, Madonna, Mariah Carey and Bon Jovi are all top tier recording artists, yet I am not familiar with any of the songs you posted by them. That said, I enjoyed them all. If I had to pick a favorite from the second group I just named, it would have to be Mariah. She’s magic to me.

It was nice of you to post an album by Irish Celtic New-age singer and songwriter Enya as a gift to your daughter the week of her birthday. Enya’s mewsic is calming, uplifting and spiritually nourishing. I love the beautiful scenes in the videos showing rocky cliffs, waterfalls and other natural wonders.

Yessum, I will keep sending positive vibes and prayers Marie’s way. It is a blessing that she has the support of her son, not only in word, but in deed.

Enjoy your Sunday and have a wonderful week ahead, dear friend Cathy!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Tom,

I made the discovery while pulling together the songs for my playlist that Gloria’s popular dance hit, “Turn the Beat Around” was a cover. Of course, I remembered original when I clicked on it but for decades I thought that song belonged to Estefan. I think I prefer her rendition the best. Thanks for stopping by to enjoy the music, dear friend. Have a boogietastic week!
