Thank you #ChickfilA for honoring Nancy Reagan

Last Thursday as we ran errands and enjoyed the beautiful spring-like weather, we noticed the flag at half-staff at various businesses.

A special thanks to DH for snapping this photo with his iPhone at my request. I wore a pair of shoes which rubbed blisters on my feet that made walking difficult by this point. He later told me that he wouldn’t do this for just anyone. 🙂

I called Chick-fil-A to inquiry why this is; the gentleman who answered the phone said it was in memory Nancy Reagan. I thought this might be the case; I not only wanted to hear it, but I wanted Chick-fil-A know how much I appreciated the company honoring such an elegant and classy First Lady. Thank you, #ChickfilA!

I want to offer a belated tribute to Mrs. Reagan. I will remember you as a woman who deeply loved her husband and stood by his side faithfully throughout the years in good times and bad. I could see by the expression on your face the way you looked at the President that your love was genuine. I know this because it’s exactly the way I look at DH. May you find peace with the Lord and with your beloved Ronnie.

Using DH’s original photo above in Pixelmator I added photo layer of an image I found of Nancy Reagan on the internet to create this special tribute to the First Lady.

To the Reagan children, your parents will forever be special in our hearts. They served the American people with clear conviction and resolve in doing what they thought was right.  On behalf of my husband, you are in our thoughts. I hope our prayers carry and lift you during this sad time and for God’s blessings to be with you!

  1. I’ve always had a lot of respect for the Reagans for so many reasons. Nancy was a very strong woman and proved it often in her life. It’s wonderful to see that she didn’t go unnoticed.

    1. Tonja, I think a good deal of people regardless of where they were political had tremendous respect for the Reagans. I loved the Reagans!

  2. I have a real soft spot in my heart for RR. I think he was a truly good man and cared deeply about others. I remember a lot of negative publicity surrounding NR, particularly a time when the Reagans were outside and RR couldn’t seem to answer a question from a reporter, and she was heard in the background prompting him. Later of course, it came out that he had Alzheimer’s, and I realized she was doing her best to help him and hide his condition from the public. She was a brave, loyal, and loving woman who had to go through a lot, but did it with patience and grace. We should all be so classy.

    1. Lexa, Ronald Reagan was a good person, I believe. It would be nice to have another President like him, but I doubt we’ll see that again. You know the old saying, Behind every great man stands a great woman. That’s Nancy! Yes, we should all be be as a classy as she was & sadly only few walk in her footprints. By the way, I’m shifting my Friday content in with my Wordless Wednesday post till the first of May. Thanks for dropping in!

  3. I thought you might like to see the order from President Obama:

“President Obama [has] ordered flags to fly at half-staff to honor former first lady Nancy Reagan, who died at 94.

The president issued a proclamation calling for flags to be lowered at the White House, military posts and all public grounds ‘as a mark of respect for the memory of Nancy Reagan.’

Flags will fly at half-staff until sunset on the day she is buried alongside her husband at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif.”

Sadly, stupid rumors have spread online that the president ordered flags flown at half-staff in honor of Whitney Houston, but not Nancy Reagan. Obviously, this rumor is false. Governor Chris Christie ordered that flags be flown at half-staff in honor of Whitney Houston because Houston was a native of New Jersey. Whether flags should be flown at half-staff for someone who was not a principle member of government is debatable. It’s not really supposed to be done, but it’s a law that’s broken from time to time and without consequences, I think.

I appreciate Mrs. Reagan’s service to our country. She was a great lady who supported her husband through so much and watched over his health and safety. We owe her a debt of gratitude. While it’s nice to thank the fast food chain, they were doing as ordered by presidential directive. I wonder how many people know this policy. It’s sad if they don’t and do not lower the flag when they should.

    Love,
    Janie

    1. Janie, I did not know the President ordered flags to be flown half staffed. I always thought this was a volunteer action by business owners. I’d expect an executive order like this given to all federal buildings, though. Thanks for sharing this info.

  4. Nancy was a devoted spouse who lived through her husband’s Alzheimer’s, a terrible and destructive disease, and had to watch how it affected the man she loved. That takes a kind of courage I hope never to need. Say what you want about Reagan, he and Nancy loved each other very much.
