Monday's Music Moves Me

Take a Walk in the Park Day #walking theme songs

Awww Mondays hosted Comedy Plus (Sandee)

It’s the last Monday in March and soon another month will come to an end. Where did the days go?  Anyhow… Welcome to Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me!  Before I forget, let me mention that I have appointments today and my time on the dance floor is limited but if I can’t make it by then don’t worry I’ll hop over to your place bright early tomorrow. 😉

This month’s honorary co-hostess, Marie from Athena Cat Goddess Wise Kitty did a swell job, don’t you think? Thanks for playing along this month, girl! I hope you’ll decide to be in the spotlight again. 😉  Marie’s final theme is in honor of  ‘Take a Walk In The Park Day’ and has requested SONGS ABOUT WALKING

My song picks have no particular rhythm or reason other than the tunes fancied my ear the instant I heard them.  Tracks on my Walki(ing) Theme Songs playlist include:

  1. Walk – Don’t Run ~ The Ventures
  2. Walking on Broken Glass ~ Annie Lennox
  3. These Boots Are Made For Walkin’ ~ Nancy Sinatra
  4. Walks Like A Woman ~Baton Rouge
  5. Walking In My Shoes ~ Depeche Mode
  6. A Walk In the Rain ~ Yanni
  7. Walks Like A Lady ~ Journey
  8.  Walk This Way ~ Aerosmith
  9. You’ll Never Walk Alone ~ Gerry & The Pacemakers
  10. Walk Away ~ Donna Summer

DISCLOSURE…this is a mewsic linky party, which means all participates are sharing songs that one can listen to from YouTube or Vimeo and a not a post about mewsic or mewsicians.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

Yesterday, I learned my niece may have the Coronavirus and is waiting on the results. She’s a mom of two and wife. Please keep her in prayer, as well as her family. I know this is all scary for everyone but I’m trusting God for His healing touch to make her well.  That’s a wrap for now. Join me tomorrow for some randomness and giggles with Tickle Me Tuesdays. Have a boogietastic week!

I really enjoyed this list. First, the stereo in Walk, Don’t Run – it was fantastic. The Gerry and the Pacemakers cover of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” (a treasured song from my childhood), I understand, has become a COVID-19 survival anthem in Europe. Walking has become my sole outdoor activity, as husband and I are in one of the mandatory stay at home except for essential work, exercise or going out for supplies states. I added your daughter to my nightly prayer list a few nights ago. The list gets longer everyday. Let’s all hang in there with our music.

Alana, yours and others who said prayers for DD#2. She’s ok I believe as she’s shared getting outdoors for walks with her boyfriend. I suspect allergies are to blame and stress levels causing us all to be more concerned than normal. DH is on week 2 working from home and it’s expected to go longer than originally thought. With God’s help, we’ll get through this mess if we’re wise and safe, I believe. Thanks for sharing this dance with me.

I love you “walking” song choices, Cathy! I hope your niece will be okay and I will keep her in my prayers. Sending hugs. 💛 💚

      Eugenia,

Thanks for the prayers for my niece. I did spot a video on FB of her and her kids. She looks a little tired, so maybe her results will come back negative. Like my daughter and oldest niece, this one has asthma which puts them at greater risk, so I’m concerned for their health during this crisis. As well, my dad who has black lung and I think he has COPD. He has a time breathing generally during the cooler months but other times he struggles to. On top of that he and mom are both type II diabetes. All I can do is ask for God to keep His hands upon all my loved ones.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Love and hugs. ♥

      Marie,

Donna Summer, the Queen of Disco, will always be forever loved by many. She sang so effortlessly and beautiful. Our loss is heaven’s gain!

Good walk away advice. Some people I know just like drama and fighting and my preference is to just walk away if they don’t want to be civil and sensible.

      Lee,

I hate, hate drama and fighting, too. I read angry posts on FB frequently which I often just walk right by without giving any of it time to take root but sometimes a nerve will get struck the wrong way. It’s times like that I have to pause to remind myself it’s not worth the energy before I can move on. It’s so crazy how others don’t realize the damage they’re doing to themselves or society by stirring the pot of turmoil.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      John,

Yeah, I stopped by yesterday and noticed we were on the same wave length with these two. That’s when I learned that Johnny Smith did the song first. 🙂

  • Joyce Lansky

I’ve always loved this first song but never knew what it was called or where to find it. Thanks for sharing! Hearing Journey and Aerosmith was fun, too!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Joyce,

There are many songs I like but often do not know what they are until I stumble on them. I’ve reacquainted myself with many lost tunes and learning what others are since I started blogging. 🙂

  • Athena and Marie

There’s a lot of walkin’ going on over here. It’s hard to believe that there were so many songs about walking to choose from. Thomas said, I loved the time when instrumentals were common to the top 40 pop charts. Artists like Herb Alpert, Duane Eddy, Floyd Cramer, and the Ventures regulars. I was a fan of the Ventures. They hit the charts during my jr. high years and were still around when I graduated high school. These days walking is a great exercise and running is just out of the question. Have a blessed week.

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

I hope you and DH had a nice weekend, dear friend! Right off the bat that cute kitty meme made me smile, a good start to a new week – A to Z Week, no less! Are you ready to run this year’s marathon?

I see you planted a couple of Boomer oldies in your set of songs to fit the theme “Take A Walk in the Park Day.” That first tune, “Walk – Don’t Run” by The Ventures, released in the summer of 1960, reminds us of a time when instrumentals were common on the charts. That Ventures single launched their career and led to a follow-up version “Walk – Don’t Run ’64” with a different arrangement. That Scopitone film produced to promote Nancy Sinatra’s single “These Boots…” is one of the hottest choreographed routines ever. That 1990 mewsic video by the Louisiana hard rock – glam metal band Baton Rouge was played on the MTV station where I worked at the time. I well remember “Walk This Way,” the giant hit by Aerosmith. I am also very familiar with the inspiring song “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” Remember Jerry Lewis singing it at the conclusion of his MDA Telethons year after year? Patti La Belle’s group The Blue Belles also released a version on a 1962 single.

I am not familiar with the other walkin’ songs but could add a few to your list:

“Walkin’ In The Rain With The One I Love” – Love Unlimited
Just Walkin’ In The Rain” – Johnnie Ray
“Walking In The Rain” – The Ronettes
“I’m Walkin'” – Fats Domino (also by Ricky Nelson)
“Walking to New Orleans” – Fats Domino

And of course there is this favorite of mine:
“Last night I took a walk in the dark
To a place called Palisades Park” – Freddy Cannon

I am very sorry to hear about your niece. I hope she doesn’t actually have the coronoavirus. Regardless I will keep her in my prayers along with your DD#2, you and DH and your other children and their families. God bless, dear fiend Cathy!
