Battle of the Bands

Spirit of Christmas #BOTB results

The Spirit of Christmas is all around, kittens & dawgs! Not everyone stopped in this round. I blame this on the festivities at hand. There is just so much going on and I can’t fault anyone who doesn’t have blogging on his/her mind. I found I struggled with making it to everyone’s battle, but I think I finally hit everyone’s site and if I didn’t them I humbly apologize for the oversight.

Now on to why you stopped in today or are you here because you just can’t get enough? big grin Anywho, I did not keep a close tab while the voting was going on; I was totally shell-shocked to learn that I had a deadlock on my hands without my vote when I tallied the count. I love both flash mob videos, but one clearly evokes the Spirit of Christmas a bit more and that’s #1.  There you have it. Flash Mob #1 won by a margin of one more vote in its favor. I better not hear anyone demand a recount. lol If you want to see what you missed or want to revisit my last battle you can click here.

You might wanna see how the other battles went down. Grab a cup of hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows (you can find my recipe for home-made marshmallows here) and visit other fellow BoTBers!

Friday we walked around the quaint western North Carolina town of Bryson City. Passing one of the beautifully decorated shops an old bluegrass Christmas song played. It made me grin from ear to ear and I laughed with a memory of Christmas past of my maternal Grandpa singing this song.

This is Curious as a Cathy signing off with that old-timey Christmas tune I heard in passing….

I’ll be back for round two of Battle of the Bands on the 14th and I hope you’ll join me then, meanwhile I’m boogieing with the Monday’s Music Moves Me crew and I invite you dance along with me.

Wow, such a close battle. Despite voting on the first flash mob, I was certain the other one would win with a huge margin. I guess in BOTB, you sometimes never know.
I was just saying in comments to someone else today that this is the time of year everyone seems to be distracted for one reason or another. Don’t worry too much about it. I think all our visits have been down. Come January, I think we will all be back in the blogging spirit once again.

Jeffrey, Christmas time should be spent doing things we love. Internet activity can always be resumed after the holidays. I am considering taking a little blog hiatus after Christmas because I’ve been feeling a bit pushed and I just need some down time. It’s evident that I am with not being able to get my posts out on time or make my rounds. This frustrates me a bit and it shouldn’t be that way. Oh well, continue to enjoy this beautiful Christmas time, my friend!

  • XmasDolly

I’ve never heard this one, but it truly is another one I’m adding to my Christmas song list. Love it. It’s so cheery & happy and that’s truly what we need this Christmas season. Thanks for sharing dear friend. You knew that’s what we all needed and that’s because you’re you. HEY YOU!!! LOVE YA LOTS GIRLFRIEND…. MERRY CHRISTMAS! HUGS!

Marie, I’m glad to introduce to you a new Christmas song. Actually, I’m surprised you haven’t heard it before, though. It’s not a song you hear playing often. In fact that’s the first time in many, many years I’ve heard it and that’s why it made me smile. I think you hit on why this song is especially special to me and that it is a happy, cheery tune which matched my grandpa’s personality to a tee. Hugs back to you, my friend, and Merry Christmas!

Loved the first flash mob too. I’m really surprised though. I thought #2 would take it.

Sammy Kershaw – that’s bluegrass! Bryson City is a nice place.

    • Cathy Kennedy

Dixie, well…Sammy’s version isn’t really bluegrass. It’s more country, but one of the oldest version of it is bluegrass that I listened to. Unfortunately I just didn’t care for it, so I went with this more updated cover. But, my grandpa did have a bluegrass singing style. I use to hate that when I was a kid, but now I have fond memories only and I actually miss hearing him sing. I guess that’s why I tolerate today’s bluegrass better.

    That’s a close one!
Missed you and Janie for my battle this time around. There were some technical issues in the beginning, but they got straightened out the same day. Anyway, I figured people are busy for the holidays and that’s how it goes. I see you have experienced the same thing. I’ll be taking a break soon until the new year, so I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas, Cathy.

    • Cathy Kennedy

No problem, Debbie. I’m sorry for the techie trouble. I hate it when it happens to me so I know the frustrations you felt. I’m semi planning to take a break after Christmas, too. I’m a bit pushed this month & hiatus is very much needed. Anyhow I’d rather have folks enjoying the holidays than chained to their computers. Have yourself a merry little Christmas, my friend!

I actually created a tie in my battle with my vote, but I needed to vote my true opinion. I don’t feel any Christmas spirit this year. I don’t know why, but I certainly hope that other people enjoy the holiday.

    Love,
    Janie

    • Cathy Kennedy

Janie, it’s difficult to push through every day stuff sometimes and that’s when our joy is robbed. That can happen any time of the year, but there’s a lot of turmoil around us and that creates inner struggles for many. I pray the spirit of Christmas wraps itself around you filling you with good cheer not only through this wonderful holiday season, but always! Hugs to you, my friend!!

    Hi, dear Cathy!

Thanks for the old timey Sammy Kershaw song and video. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

The last time I checked the score of your flash mob band battle, the Air Force band had a commanding lead. I went back just now and checked how the voting unfolded and saw how mob #1 whittled away at that lead producing a tie for you to break. That’s the most exciting kind of battle and I congratulate you!

I also want to thank you for the kind words you expressed in my defense during that lengthy back and forth exchange which I didn’t even know about it until now. I sincerely regret that you were drawn into a discussion of that nature here on your blog, especially during the holidays when we should be spreading joy and love, offering forgiveness and making peace. At least that’s how I see it. You and I have gotten to know each other this year both in the blog world and in private email. In you I believe I have found a true friend. Thank you very much for choosing to keep an open mind and heart and draw your own conclusions about me. 🙂

Congratulations once again on presenting an exciting and unique band battle, dear friend Cathy. Enjoy your week!

Tom, I’m glad you liked the old fashioned Christmas song. It was such fun hearing my grandpa sing that song. I think he enjoyed the joyous season as much as his grandkids. He was an old timey preacher who loved the Lord. He was truly a good man.
I was glad to tell Stephen the value of our friendship. Had someone popped in leaving a similar comment about him then I would tell that person he has been a good, loyal friend in Blogosphere. Then no doubt I’d try to offer an explanation for the difference in opinions with the hope of opening the hearts involved. Of course these things should stay between the individuals. Let’s say you & I disagreed on something with you sharing in my comments not-so-kind words. I would either (a) ignore it or (b) reply to it through email. I can take a lot of toe stepping before enough is enough. It’s way to retaliate in cyberspace behind a monitor regardless if you’re right or not. Blogging is meant to be fun (at least for me) and anything else is a distraction. Thanks for checking back in on BOTB!
