Skywatch Friday

Skywatch Friday: Sun setting at Fort Loudon Lake

Hello kittens and dawgs! Is it Friday again so soon? Yep, the weekend is here. Not only is it Friday, but it’s the last Friday in this month. Time isn’t missing a beat, ticking by faster than I care to admit.

Who needs some sunny, blue skies? I see those hands going up, including my own. Today’s SWF contribution is another revisit from my photo archives and coincidentally is another shot from Fort Loudon Lake in Farragut, Tennessee from nearly three years ago when the weather was kinder.

I didn’t do anything too fancy to this image, other than crop and add my copyright. I love how the landscape in the foreground silhouettes against the sky with the sun peeping through the branches, don’t you?

~All images captured with my big girl camera ~ Nikon D7000 & preferred lens Nikkor 18-105mm zoom, unless otherwise noted.~

I’m linking up with the SWF team and invite you to join other photo enthusiasts across the net. Next up, I’m joining Lexa in Celebrate the small things.

I celebrate…

  • the temporary warming tread we’re experiencing. I know it won’t last and it’s more of a tease than anything else. I hope February doesn’t bring harsher conditions than what we’ve had so far.
  • signing up for the April 2016 A to Z Challenge. This year I’m using the blog code PR for personal. In the past I’ve used music and photography, but with things up in the air I decided to go the conservative route. I have a theme in mind and plan to get as many post completed ahead. This really makes a huge difference on how well I enjoy my participation.
  • finally kicking myself in gear to take part in survey and website testing sites to earn a little pocket change.
  • monetizing my blog with affiliate links. These things I either use or feel good to share with you. Our family finances need all the help we can get with DH out of work.

Life should be celebrated, even when it seems like you have no reason to celebrate. Just look around, I bet you’ll see something good! What are you celebrating?

How do you feel about sites with ads?

Join the party below!

One way to celebrate is with  Friendship Friday and Friday Features Linky Party, where you’re sure to make new friends and get lots of inspiration to boot!

That’s a wrap for now, but if you like music then I invite you to come back Monday for a two for all special with my newest edition of Battle of the Bands and I’ll be hitting the dance floor with the lovely Monday’s Music Moves Me crew, too. I know you don’t want to miss out on all that fun, right?

Thanks for visiting. Have a good weekend. Have a fototastic day!

Sun flares through trees are definitely one of my favourite things! Gorgeous capture. We have another warm trend happening right now. I can hear the snow and ice dripping as it melts as I sit by the window. Just a few days ago, we were sledding… now we can see patches of grass on the hill!

Les, we are having a warming trend this weekend, but by Thursday conditions will fall back into the norm range. I’m REALLY enjoying these warmer days! I reckon those patches of grass will be covered with white fluff before long. I don’t think winter is calling it quits for you northern folks not just yet anyhow. There will be more sledding fun in the coming days. You can take me at my word or wait to see what Punxsutawney Phil reports Tuesday. 😀

I don’t have a problem with sites with ads. I hope they bring in some cash for you. I completely forgot to put a code in for my blog for the A to Z. Not that they have a code that works for my blog, anyway. It’s not education. It’s not crafting. It’s both. And neither.

I love the way the sun casts a shaft of light through the tree. Great pic! Good luck with the A-Z, with doing surveys and things, and with the affiliate links. We could all use a little more pocket money!

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and for offering to help promo my books! If/when I need something I’ll let you know. I really appreciate the offer of support — it means so much! 🙂

Lexa, yeah I like how the sun light splits through the tree branches. That’s a really nice spot at the lake. Many, many years ago when DH first got into photography he took a beautiful shot of the sunset at the spot, different angle, with a couple nestled beneath the tree. I thought the picture would make a great poster. You know one of those that starts off with Love is… He did get their permission first and after he had it developed. Yeah, this was in the old 35mm film days and when dinosaurs roamed the earth. lol Anyhow, he had a copy of the print made for the young couple. They loved that! Just keep me in the loop as to what I can do to help you on the book promo, dearie. Have a good weekend!

Beautiful shot!! I love the flare you got on the shot.

I hope that DH finds a job soon.

I’m okay wtih blogs with ads if it is not intrusive on the blog viewing experience. Some are so weighed down with links that they take forever to load.

I’ve had offers to put ads on but the money offered was negligible.

Try it is what I say and see how it works. Like everything else I would think it would be trial and error.

Alan, thanks for stopping by. I like capturing sun flares in my shots! Sometimes they are spectacular and other times just so-so. I hope DH finds work in town. That’s what we prefer, but the sad truth is Knoxville isn’t a hot spot for electrical engineers. There are some really good companies in town, most of them are contractors who rely heavily on work from TVA. It’s a timing issue mainly to catch these places hiring. They either have too much work that they don’t know what to do with or they are getting only bits-and-pieces floating in to keep the current staff hanging on. I reckon other places suffer with this same scenario, though. DH has 30+ years of experience in this field and I know he’ll get an offer. It’s the wait that kills me sometimes. Darn, I have a flawa after all! lol Yes, definitely going with the ads is a trial and error thing for me. If I see a profit and it doesn’t bog my site down then great, but if not then I will rethink my next move. Thanks for sounding in with some good advice!

I don’t have a problem with the affiliate ads like you have or the Adsense ads like I have on my site. I dislike when blogs have pop-up ads or ads that basically take over my computer when I arrive on the site. Typically if the ads are basically unobtrusive I barely notice them or ignore them.

Lee, I agree with you those pop-up ads drive me insane. I even dislike seeing the pop-ups asking me to sign up via email to the visiting site. That’s annoying. I should hope those in Blogosphere, such as you, will always tell me if I put something on my blog that makes you scream. You will do that, right? ? Have a good weekend & I’ll see on Monday!

Lovely photo! I could use a bit of sunshine today. It’s snowing here. I can’t complain, though. We aren’t supposed to get much accumulation, and it’s been a very mild winter overall. Hopefully, February will continue that trend.
I haven’t decided about joining A to Z yet. I participated the last two years, but my book will be releasing around that time, and I don’t think I can do both at once. It definitely helps if you have posts written ahead of time. I’m not there, yet, though. We’ll see when it’s closer to the time.
    Have a great weekend!

    • Cathy Kennedy

Lori, there’s plenty of time to decide to join the A to Z challenge. This will be my third consecutive year to do it, if I manage to pull it off. I’m a bit hesitant because I have a sense things are going to change, but all we can do is the best we can do and not worry about what else happens. Of course you see your storm (a good one to be facing, I might add) brewing and can plan accordingly. Let me know, if I can help in any way with promoting your new book release. I’m always glad to do what I can for a friend. 😀 Thanks for visiting with me today!

    Hi, dear Cathy!

I agree that the month and year are racing by. That being the case, let me be the first to wish you and your family a very merry Christmas! 🙂 I like that picture of the sun setting at Fort Loudon Lake. Looks like every cloud has a silver lining, dear friend. Here in Central Florida we are celebrating sunshine because we have seen precious little of it for weeks. We regard cooler weather as a blessing here and I hope we get more of it before winter ends.

Have a wonderful weekend, dear friend Cathy!

    • Cathy Kennedy

Tom, LOL! You’re just about right with sending Christmas greetings because before we know it the holidays will slip up on us. I use to think this is a sign of getting older, but then I realized it’s just I stay so busy. I know the cooler weather is a blessing for folks in Florida. I guess if I lived there then I’d be happy, too. I tell you this, we are considering various spots for possible relocating for the right job opportunity and the sunshine state is one of them. Thanks for stopping by. I’ll be by for a visit soon. Have an excellent weekend!

  • kismaslife

That is so pretty! We are having a warming trend here as well with a pending snow storm on the way. Makes me a little sad as I have been enjoying being outside.

    Have a great weekend!
