Richard Got the Hatchet

In last night’s episode before the task assignment, a one-on-one meeting was held in the boardroom.  Jose confronted Mr. Trump with the news that he had to resign.  Canseco’s father has been seriously ill with cancer and his illness had declined for the worse.  Doing what anyone of us would do, Canseco stepped down from The Celebrity Apprentice.  My heart was deeply saddened, as I’m sure yours was, too if you tuned into last night’s show. On behalf of everyone, I would like to say, “God bless you, Mr. Canseco! Our prayers are with you and your family.”

The task last night was for the celebrities to create their own artwork and selling their pieces in their own galleries. John Rich headed up the men’s team to try to raise money for his charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Marlee Matlin led the women playing for the Starkey Hearing Foundation, which provides hearing aids to people in need.

A little excitement broke out among the men when Meatloaf exploded accusing Busey of taking his art supplies.  Gary remained totally non-confrontational and calm.  I don’t know how he kept his cool, personally.  Before the big art charity event opened to the public, Meatloaf squared things up with Busey by giving him a heartfelt apology. It takes a big person to step up to the plate admitting he was not only wrong but embarrassed by his action.  I learned two interesting characteristics about two Hollywood icons last night – humility and kindness.

While I didn’t see any budding artists amongst either group, the men had the most fun at being a Renaissance man of sorts in the art world.  Actually, I thought the men’s artwork overall was better than the women’s, which came as a surprise.

In the history of The Apprentice or The Celebrity Apprentice, last night’s fund-raising set an unprecedented total.  Neither show in an entire season has been able to match money brought in last night.  Prior to Trump naming the winner of the task, he asked John and Marlee, regardless of who is the winner would they be willing to allow the losing team to keep their money to go toward their charity.  They both signed off on it.

With all the crazy chaos the women endured with getting held up in NYC traffic during rush hour and then the artwork not being delivered until 5 minutes before the gallery’s door opened,  they made a dazzling win after three straight losses.  Marlee pulled in a drop dead, I kid you not, $986,000.  Trump was so impressed that he gave Marlee $14,000 toward her charity rounding her contributions to a cool $1,000,000. Ouchy wow, right?  The men fared well, too.  John was able to raise over $600,000 for his charity.

In the end, the firing process was ultimately decided in most people’s mind on who contributed the least monetarily.  That being said, Donald voiced his eminent boardroom phrase, “You’re fired!”
