Welcome to Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me! I’m not having one of my crazy moments but Mondays are busy. I prefer to do my house chores through the week while DH is at work reserving the weekend to help with to-dos that he has planned or we just knock around together. It’s time to quieten those voices and hit the dance floor!
This month’s honorary co-hostess is Michelle from Musings & Merriment but there’s no theme today which mean it’s your choice song picks week so go wild. Share what moves ya, baby!
The Friday before Christmas, my good friend at Shady’s Place introduced me to the all boys band from the mid-60s known as the Supremes. Yeah, you read that right. If you’re like me then the only Supremes you know are the backup singers for Diana Ross. Despite the squeaky wheels grinding, my brain got to turning….bands with the same name and so today’s theme was formed!
I betcha heard of the American rock band Nirvana (late 80s to early 90s), even I have heard of them. I’m just not familiar with their mewsic. However, did you know there’s an English psycho-rock band? Yep, it’s true. The original Nirvana formed in the mid-60s by mewsicians Patrick Campbell-Lyons and Alex Spyropoulos. The pair hit it off smashingly well becoming nearly inseparable writing mewsic and performing. The band’s success lost steam toward the end of the decade and finally they parted ways in the early 70s due to poor sells which by that time they had produced four albums and several singles. That’s not the end of them, nope Campbell-Lyons and Spryopoulos came back together in 1985. Allow me to introduce to you the Nirvana across the pond with their album Rainbow Chaser: the 60s recordings (The Island Years).
As you might have wondered, the UK group DID sue the American band for using the same name. Quoting Wiki…
The original group filed a lawsuit in California against the Seattle grunge band in 1992. The matter was settled out of court on undisclosed terms that apparently allowed both bands to continue using the name and issuing new recordings without any packaging disclaimers or caveats to distinguish one Nirvana from the other. Music writer Everett True has claimed that Cobain’s record label paid $100,000 to the original Nirvana to permit Cobain’s band continued use of the name.
I hear ya yelling, ‘Give me my Nirvana!’ Not to worry, my friend. I’m going to give the American band its place here this morning. I figured the only way to familiar myself with these rockers mewsic and style is to share a collection of their hits found on YT. Hit play and enjoy while you do other things if you want. That’s probably what I’ll do. 🙂
Take a short cut to the song of your choice on the playlist below:

- 21:32 Lithium
- 26:53 About a Girl
- 28:53 Smells Like a Teen Spirit
- 33:22 In Bloom

- 43:45 Breed
- 47:50 Aneurysm
- 51:15 Drain You

I’m not sure this will take me but I feel a wave coming to repeat this theme of bands that share the same or similar name. Watch for future posts in this series!
Which Nirvana band do you like? The American band is a bit too noisy for me and I preferred the English band style better.
Last week I attempted to use the basic Linky Tools for our dance party but some folks had problems with it. Part of it had to do the blog host (free vs self-hosted) but the other reasons I’m not sure. Personally, I like the basic type best. It’s clean looking and simple. I hope to test out the coding for different types of blogs to see how they work and then try it again once I figure something out. Meanwhile, I’m back to using the thumbnail version which occasionally will not pull up your images from your blog URL. If that happens, you cancel what you’re doing and go back to select the option to upload your desired image from your computer.
DISCLOSURE…this is a mewsic linky party, which means all participates are sharing songs that one can listen to from YouTube or Vimeo and a not a post about mewsic or mewsicians. Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.
[tweetthis]Hit the #MondaysMusicMovesMe dance floor with me! @xmasdolly [/tweetthis]
That’s a wrap for now, but I’ll leave you with a few random giggles and a bit of encouragement. Until next time have a boogietastic week! X💋X💋, Cathy

I had no idea there were two Nirvana’s and two Supremes – learn something new every day! 😀 Great song choices, Cathy! Hope you’re having a fabulous weekend!
Stacy,
The weekend was nice, short but nice. Thanks for boogieing with me, my dear!
I never knew about the “other” Supremes or the “other” Nirvana. (It’s also amusing to I like some of “our” Nirvana (mostly the more quiet songs), and, actually, I sampled some of the British Nirvana songs and liked some of them, too. And I like Weird Al’s “Smells Like Nirvana” song, too (the video is hysterical) but I guess Weird Al doesn’t count. Seriously, I like the idea of a Two Bands with the Same Name series, and look forward to it.
Alana,
I know the Weird Al’s song, “Smells Like Nirvana” but I don’t remember the video. I guess I need to watch it again since you said its hysterical. 🙂 I need to work on another installment in this series before long. I think it’ll be great mewsical fun and education for us all, especially me!
First of all, I am not sure what happened over at my blog but I have since fixed it.
I had no idea there was another band by the same name. I liked some Nirvana but not all.
Michelle,
Did I mention a problem on your blog? I can’t recall now but I did pop over just now and do not see a comment left by me and I know for fact that I did stop by to dance with you. Let me try it again. BRB…I’m back. Okay, I can leave a comment so if that was the issue then it’s fixed. Yay! 😉
Did I ever tell you about the time I didn’t see Diana Ross? I was in an airport and couldn’t understand why everyone was staring at me. Diana Ross was right behind me, but I never saw her.
Joyce,
That story sounds a little familiar. That had to be really wild to be that close and miss the opportunity to see such a huge star.
It just goes to show all the good names have been taken and we are stuck with reruns!=. Just joking, hope you have a great week!
Mimi,
Ha-Ha, reruns – that’s good.
I wasn’t aware there was another Nirvana! Grunge bands aren’t my cup of coffee! Give me classic rock any day!
Eugenia,
Grunge isn’t my thing, either. But, it was fun to learn there are/were two Nirvana bands. The English band suits my ears the best.
Yes, I agree!
May the polar babies dance with you!
Kathe,
LOL
Well now, we didn’t know there were two Nirvanas either, that’s an interesting story. I think we all like the Supremes better though.
Brian,
I thought so, too. Who knew, right? 🙂
Bummer, woke up with a bit of the stomach flu. Total bummer. Oh well, another day at home probably just watchin’ movies. It’s okay I think I’m due. ~hehe~ Some really cute tunes here. Never thought I’d be a fan of Nirvana I’ll tell you. ~hahaha~ Have a great day girlfriend. HUGS
Marie,
I’m sorry you woke up sick yesterday morning. I hope you’re doing better now. Saying prayers for you to feel well soon, my dear. Thanks for stopping by for a mewsic and chair boogies.
Love the funny. That’s so me.
Awww on the bears. So adorable.
Love the first video the best.
Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week, my friend. Love and hugs. ♥
I’m not really into Grunge bands,Give me that Old Fashioned Rock and roll of the beatles, stones, moody blues.
Mike,
Yeah, I like classic rock n’ roll over grunge, too.
Definitely prefer the British band to the grunge one…
John,
I think this was a cool discovery and definitely the British band is superior to the American band.
We didn’t know about the other Nirvana, but we like their mewsic, CK, but for us there’s only one Nirvana, and that’s the American band. Granny loved the way late Kurt Cobain sung Bowie’s Man who sold the world. Brings her right back to the 90th…MOL..😸Pawkisses for a wonderful Monday and now let’s grunge🐾😽💞
Binky,
I was really surprised that four of the songs on the playlist I used reached #1 and I think the only one that remotely sounds familiar to me is ‘Smells Like A Teen Spirit’. Granny’s favorite ‘The Man Who Sold the World’ didn’t register. Thanks for joining me today.
Interesting post. I did not know of the other Nirvana or Supremes. Thank you for hosting. Have a great day! XO
Ellen,
I’m glad you joined us on the dance floor, darlin’! You’re ever in my thoughts & prayers. May God’s love surround you with the loss of Prancie.
hey Cathy, Happy 4M! I never knew about the 60s Nirvana. I only know the grunge rock band because that was super popular. Kurt Cobain is a legend in my generation. But I don’t lijke Nirvana, too much raw energy for me. I do like Pearl Jam tho, another Seattle grunge rock band.
Amy,
This was all new-to-me. It’s fun to share tidbits like this with others. I’m happy to enlighten someone in this generation of mewsic, as well as those who are not.
Happy Monday, Cathy! I have been in the hospital for the past week. Still here . Will be here for some time. My cancer has returned. Hopefully I will be able to go home soon and join the dance party again. Have a great week, my friend.
Mary, I hope you have a safe recovery and that the cancer isn’t so serious.
Oh, darlin’ Mary! I’m sorry to read this mews of your cancer returning. You will certainly be uplifted in my thoughts and prayers. Surround yourself with positive energies and good mewsic, dear friend. I hope the treatments you’re taking don’t wipe you out too much and will put this ugly monster down for good. I’m sending lots of love and hugs to you. May God bless you, my friend!
Hi, Cathy!
Happy 4M Monday, dear friend, and thank you for mentioning friend Shady at the top of the post! This is an interesting theme and I learned a lot from my visit. I never knew there was a British baroque and psychedelic pop band named Nirvana back in the 60s – decades before the Pacific Northwest grunge/alternative rock band of the same name rose to fame. As I listened to those album tracks, I could definitely hear the influence of The Kinks and The Zombies along with American bands The Beach Boys and Arthur Lee’s west coast band Love. Seems like the U.S. Nirvana band got off cheap if their label paid only $100,000 to continue using the name. I don’t know if I ever told you, but Kurt Cobain’s Nirvana is Mrs. Shady’s favorite band tied with Nine Inch Nails. As you might expect, I definitely like the heavier sound of the U.S. Nirvana band better than the delicate style of those English poppers.
Thanks for teaching me about “the other Nirvana.” I agree this is a fantastic idea for a series. I also appreciate the inspiring Bible verse meme.
Have a wonderful week, dear friend Cathy!
Tom,
I don’t believe you’ve mentioned that the American Nirvana band is Mrs. Shady’s favorite band. I’m not really into the grunge genre, so the English band definitely is more to my liking and yes, I do know that you prefer the heavier rock sound. It takes all kinds to make the world go around, right? Thanks for joining me. I know you’re really busy with the move and settling into your home. Let’s hope y’all won’t have to ever move again. 🙂 Have a good week, my friend!
