Wild Wednesdays

Nashville Parthenon

On our last day in Nashville, we visited the Parthenon.  Not the ancient remains in Greece but a full-size replica right in Tennessee.  I’m going to wind things up with another slide show presentation from last October.

There is an admission fee but it’s an interesting place to visit at least once. What I liked most were the paintings on display which has nothing to do with ancient Greece. The other things we saw I believe would’ve been easier to read about online but if you’re looking for away to spend a couple of lazy hours then this attraction can easily do that.

I’ll be back tomorrow with another edition of TAD with FFO piggybacking the post.  Have a wild and wonderful day!

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Wild, Wacky and Almost Wordless Wednesday, dear friend! Seeing as how I am still on my three-days of active blogging duty, I thought I’d drop in and see you. I’m so glad I did. That Nashville landmark you visited is magnificent! It is an inspiring story how the Nashville Parthenon, built for the Tennessee centennial in 1897 as a full-size replica of the one constructed in ancient Greece to house a 42-foot statue of Goddess Athena, became so popular with citizens that they fought to have it preserved rather than torn down. Then, in 1931, the building was fortified with better, more permanent materials and to this day attracts multitudes of tourists, including you and DH. As you know, Mrs. Shady and I are art lovers, and I will show her those awesome framed paintings, among the 63 that were donated by an Illinois art collector who wished to remain anonymous until his death. How very generous of him! The thick, heavy bronze door is a sight to behold, as is the gigantic statue of Athena.

The traditional Greek music is filled with spirit and joy. Thank you for sharing it with us. I’m dropping out of sight now until the end of the month when I return with my next post. Until then, have a wonderful month and stay well, dear friend Cathy!

That’s a beautiful replica of the Parthenon! And I enjoyed the rest of your slideshow as well. We visited the real Acropolis and Parthenon in 2013 and it was my lifelong dream come true! 💖 Love the Bouzouki music also!

Sounds like this wasn’t your favorite thing to do, but you did kill a couple of hours. Beautiful shot.
