Cathy Chats

My Recent Movie List #CathyChats

Good-morning, kittens & dawgs! This is my first edition of Cathy Chats since getting back to routine blogging life after a long summer (not really) break.

Today, I thought I’d pitch some movies to ya that DH and I have watched in recent months.  You know, I’m the girl next door who likes to share. Grab your coffee, read the snippets, and if it sounds good then check out the trailer links. 😉

Now You See Me (mystery/crime genre) Showed up as two movie bundle with Now You See Me 2 which we have yet to see on iTunes that we couldn’t pass. The first flick in the set was great fun starring Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Woody Harrelson, Mark Ruffalo, Isha Fisher, Dave Franco, & Mélanie Laurent. Four talented, not so well known magicians recruited to perform the greatest trick of their life…to rob a bank and get away with it. The ending I didn’t see coming!

Forget About It (YouTube full movie) We watched this comedy/action on Amazon Prime.  The story surrounds three retirees (Burt Reynolds, Charlie Durning, and Robert Lugga) living a simple life in a trailer park hitting golf balls in the Arizona desert while competing for the attention of their hot neighbor, Rachel Welch until a former mobster, Peter Nitzi (Michael Saquella), in the Witness Protection program moves in. Oh yeah, did I mention Nitzi ripped off the mob? Guess where he hides the money and who do you think finds it? This is a hilarious farce worth seeing.

Kill Me Again (available on Amazon Prime) Val Kilmer plays a private eye in this crime drama hired to stage the death of a young woman (Joanne Whalley-Kilmer) on the run from the mob and a psycho boyfriend but the when she skips town without paying for his services and left taking the heat for her death, then he goes after her. Very good flick.

30 Days of Night (Netflix) Josh Hartnett plays a police officer in a small Alaskan town that plunges into a month-long darkness in this horror film.  Thankfully most of the town’s population departs while the veil of night covers this part of the earth but can the remaining town’s people survive against the bloodlust of a gang of creatures of the night? Good film.

Solace (Amazon Prime) FBI Special Agents, Joe Merriweather (Jeffry Dean Morgan) and Katherine Cowles’ (Abbie Cornish) are the lead investigators in a series of homicides. Merriweather enlists the help of a reluctant former co-worker,  Dr. John Clancy (Anthony Hopkins) who possesses a unique skill set as a psychic.  Clancy realizes the serial murder is always one step ahead of them because the killer is like himself, a psychic. What determines his kills? Will Clancy outsmart the killer? Fabulous suspense thriller!

Have you watched any of these movies on my list?  Do you have any suggestions to add?

Today’s word prompt “TARADIDDLE” brought to you by the lovely Eugenia at BrewNSpew.

I cannot lie taradiddle

Makes me giggle

Imaginations spent lyrical

Seemly trivial

Tall tales

Fables swell

All these stories

Make me worry

Please stop

This whopper-telling

Before it destroys

Thank you for the movie suggestions! If you liked 30 Days of Night, you may want to try Vanishing on 7th Street. It shares a similar theme and was very good when I saw it last!

      Nicole,

Thanks for the movie suggestion. Unfortunately, “Vanishing on Seventh Street” isn’t on our two streaming services but I shall keep an eye out for it. “30 Days of Night” was a bit bloody but at least scriptwriter made the vampires evil creatures instead of lovable ones depicted in newer films. Thanks for stopping by for a visit.

      Mimi,

Taradiddle has a whimsical sound to it and before Eugenia introduced it to me I had not heard of it before. Lies do have a way of getting out of hand. I’d like to say that I’ve never told a fib but that would be a stretch of the truth. I’m guilty easy telling white lies as we all are at times.

Forget About It sounds good. I get dvd’s from the library. The remake of Overboard was surprisingly good.

      Ellen,

“Forget About It” is a good movie. I think you’ll enjoy it. That’s good to know about the newest “Overboard”. I liked the original with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. That was such a fun film!

  • Birgit

I have seen a couple of them…Now You See Me is quite good even though I can’t stand Jesse Eisenberg.i liked that movie with Burt Reynolds which I thought was sweet. Some good picks here and you know I choose mine each week.

      Birgit,

I liked both “Now You See Me” films, the first a little better than the second. I suspect they’ll do a third one with the way number two left off. What is it about Jesse Eisenberg you don’t like? I’ve only seen him in a few things. I always look forward to your TMP each week. You’ve introduced me to some good oldies.

      • Birgit

I find Jesse arrogant and smarmy and just want to punch his face:) I didn’t mind him in the new JK Rowling movie(s) nor in Zombieland but I find him an arrogant jerk…there is that word again:)

I agree much too hot and humid but our weather has cooled off temporarily with all this rain. I expect it return to norm soon, so I’m enjoying it while I can. 🙂

      Eugenia,

You’re not a movie person? Gasp! You must be from some distant planet, right? lol You’re probably thinking the same about me since I’m not much of a literary buff. I’m happy you liked my poem. Sometimes your words inspire me and other time I come up blank but I am trying to change that about me. 🙂

      • -Eugenia

My hubby is a movie buff! He watches movies and I get into the internet. It works for us. I used to love movies and lost interest recently. Love your poem and figuring a way to publish since you don’t have a reblog feature.

        • -Eugenia

Cathy, I have seen the reblog feature only on WordPress Personal and Premium Plans. It’s not available on their Business Plan (bummer) and I haven’t seen it used on other blogging platforms. It’s a great feature!

I’m falling way behind on movie watching, but from what I’ve been seeing of recent films I haven’t missed too much. I did see the first installment of the Now You See Me pair and I did like that a lot. The majority of newer movies I find to be rather disappointing.

      Lee,

I couldn’t agree with you more about most movies made today being rather disappointing. Hollyweird scriptwriters aren’t what they used to be. The 80s and 90s were great decades for fabulous film productions. Anytime I stumble on anything from this time period on Netflix or Amazon Prime, I add the titles to my watch list even if it was something I originally thought wasn’t appealing I figure it’s gotta be better than most the current stuff and I’m usually proven right.

  • Comedy Plus

We only have Netflix and Amazon Prime. I’ve not seen any or your movies. We loved Downton Abbey, Luther, Midsomer Murders and the list goes on and on.

Have a fabulous day and week, Cathy. Big hug. ❤
