Monday's Music Moves Me

My 10 Favorite Albums

Hop over to see Sandee for more Awww Mondays fun-spiration!

Good morning, Kittens and Dawgs! It’s fabulous to see you! Back in June…where did the time go?… John shared a playlist of songs from his favorite 10 albums.  At first, I thought I didn’t have such a list but then in a snap four or five albums came to mind.  When I was younger I don’t think I ever owned an album, not a vinyl, and the itzy bitty stash of mewsic I owned was mainly on 8 track tape.  Do you remember that?  Anywho, some of the albums that I really loved, I don’t know if I’m remembering correctly because I listened to these often while visiting family or friends, I occasionally borrowed.    Today, I’m pulling my freebie song picks from My Favorite 10 Albums.  Are you ready to groove to some mewsic?

  1. The Best of Tommy James & the Shondells “I Think We’re Alone Now” make me think of when summers spent with my uncle and auntie in the late 60s and early 70s. 🙂
  2.  American Woman 1970 (The Guess Who) song feature with the same name reminds of my close friend, Lisa Gayle.  We shared countless hours together listening to her auntie’s mewsic collection.
  3. “Candle in the Wind” by Elton John from his Goodbye Yellow Brick Road always makes me think of my BFF, Anita, who had the album but at that time, the feature song with the same name was my favorite.  It wasn’t until adulthood I got the CD.
  4. “Lost Without Your Love” from  The Best of Bread. After we got married, we bought Bread’s mewsic on CD.  In our courtship days, “Aubrey” was our favorite and at our wedding DH’s close friend performed “If” and “Sweet Surrender”.
  5. “What a Feeling” from the 80s film Flashdance (Irene Cara) tells the story about a young girl’s dream to be a ballerina and is full of furtastic mewsic.
  6. “Daydream Believer” from  The Monkees Greatest Hits.  I had a crush on Davey Jones when I was a kid and I loved watching The Monkees TV show but then who didn’t?
  7. “You Are So Beautiful” from Joe Cocker Gold is perhaps the first song I recall a boy singing to me.  It’s funny, I didn’t feel beautiful.
  8. “Power of Love” from The Best of Huey Lewis & The News.  Many of Huey Lewis’ songs from the 80s put me in a good mood and always remind me of the Back to the Future film series.  What fun times!
  9. “Jump For My Love” from The Best of the Pointer Sisters. This is another group that brings back fond memories from the 80s tied to a great movie Beverly Hills Cop with Eddie Murphy.
  10. Wildflower 2006 (Sheryl Crow)  This album reminds me of a sweet friend and I dedicate track 6 (“I Know Why”) to you!

This month, our very own Stacy is serving as honorary co-hostess which means she gets to pick both themes but today’s it’s “your choice song picks”, so anything goes! You’re invited to join my fellow co-hosts: XmasDolly (4M Brain Child), Stacy,  Alana, &  Colette on the dance floor (ONLY link mewsic posts) below.

[tweetthis]I’m boogieing to “your choice” song picks with the #MondaysMusicMovesMe gang! @xmasdolly [/tweetthis]

I’m rounding out things with a special thanks by honoring our Vets today with Keith Urban’s “For You”.

Life is a bit busy at the moment, so if you don’t see regularly scheduled posts then know that all is well and that I just have my hands full taking care of things.  Not to worry, I have my mewsic booked through to the end of the year, so there’s no worry that you’ll miss a beat with me on the dance floor! Keep those tunes playing, your body swaying, and I’ll be boogieing over to see you soon.

X💋X💋, Cathy

Those were all goodies. The bands did well off of the Dad here. He bought the same things on records, 8 track, cassette, CD and then downloaded them.

I am another Monkees fan, and enjoyed listening to Daydream Believer. So gentle, it brings me back many years ago! I am familiar with all the songs on the playlist except for the very last one. What a nice playlist this was. Thank you again for the memories!

      Alana,

I got a chance to see Davy Jones perform in the mid-80s when he was on tour along with a few other oldie bands. It was great fun and charged with excitement. I went with some co-workers (all female) which was a hoot. Every song on my playlist brings back many fond memories for me, too.

Great idea for a theme! I’ll need to try this 🙂 Cassettes was my album format of choice growing up, and I still have them! Enjoyed your choices too, especially Candle in the Wind. I still remember Elton John performing it at Princess Diana’s funeral.

      Melissa,

Mewsic no matter what the format vinyl, 8-track, or cassette I owned very little new recordings growing up. Everything I played repeatedly was usually made for me by my then boyfriend better known on this blog as DH. 🙂 After we got married, I inherited DH’s mewsic stash mostly vinyl. We did have an 8-track tape player in our car but I think all of the 8-tracks were recordings we made off albums. In the early 80s we migrated to Compact Discs. We have a large collection of mewsic on CDs. These days I rarely play mewsic from a CD but instead stream it from my iPad in iTunes or online at YT or at a bloggy friend’s site. The times have changed. It makes me wonder what it’ll be like when my granddaughter is a young woman. I remember Elton changing ‘Candle in the Wind’ lyrics for Princess Diana’s funeral. That was such a horrible event. Death always is but her passing really bothered me. I don’t know if it is because I connected with her as a mother of small children or that I felt intimately tied to her since I recall vividly making a point to get up early to watch her and Charles get married. That was a magical moment. It’s not every day you get to see a girl marry a real-life prince. Of course, my DH is my ‘Prince Charming’ and he doesn’t need royal papers to prove otherwise. 😉

You have albums. I don’t think I do. I have tons of songs 🙂
But I’m sure I’ve listened to many albums 🙂
    The Pointer Sisters are good!
    Thanks for the dance!
I know how busy is my dear. Same here. and more worries with my eyes.

      Colette,

No, I don’t vinyl albums anymore. I still refer to CDs or even digital mewsic I own as such. 🙂 I’m sorry to read that you have more concerns with your eyes. Is there a new issue or just the same thing? You’ll certainly remain in my prayers. I know how frustrating this is for you. Sending hugs to you and God’s blessings your way.

In the 1960s, I too was a big Monkees fan and Davy was also my favorite Monkee. ‘DAYDREAM BELIEVER’ is also my favorite Monkees song. Cathy, we’re batting a thousand when it comes to Monkees! :o)

Keith Urban is my favorite lately, but I’m sure that will change too as it always does.. hehehe…. Also, you have all the tunes that are what I call stickables. It’s those tunes that once you hear them you just cannot get them out of your head. hahaha Anyway, these are just that “Stickables”! I think we’re alone now… is a big one for sure.. and then Elton John & the Shondells I mean dang girl you’re gonna have my head spinnin’ hahahaha GREAT JOB! Luv ya sweetie… have a rockin’ week, and I think I’ll go lay down now… Getting my shot on Thursday and I’m hoping I’ll get my life back then too!!!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Marie,

Well…if these songs are stickable then while you’re laying down you do a little boogie, right? Oh, that’s fabulous news that you’re schedule this Thursday for your shot. I sure do hope it fixes you up good. Saying prayers and sending ya hugs, dearie!

Great selection of music and memories, Cathy! 🙂 I had a crush on Davy Jones too, but didn’t get to watch The Monkees TV show. (It wasn’t airing in Germany, where we lived in the 1960s). We did get all the American and British magazines, though. Remember 16 and Tiger Beat?

“Baby I’m A Want You” by Bread was “our song” when hubby and I first started dating, but we liked most of their music, including the ones you mentioned. David Gates has a beautiful voice!

Huey Lewis songs will always be connected to Back To The Future, won’t they? Love that whole series of movies! It was such sad news when Michael J. Fox announced he had Parkinson’s Disease. but he sure has done a lot for research in that area. Happy to see him pop up as a guest star on various shows, now and then. He seems to be doing well, all things considered.

Wishing you a good rest of the week.Hope things calm down for you. Cheers!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Debbie,

Yeah, I remember both of those magazines. It seems I got Tiger Beat a few times. I remember pulling Leif Garrison’s photo out of that magazine to hang on my bedroom wall. I thought he was so cute. I read somewhere he had problems perhaps drug or alcohol dependency. That’s so sad to hear. Oh yeah, David Gates has a furtastic voice! I hated it when he stepped away from the group but he did have some success as a solo artist. It was a sad thing to learn of MJF’s Parkinson’s Disease diagnosis all those years ago but he’s managed to continue his acting career which is pAwesome. The last thing we saw him in is the TV series, ‘Designated Survivor’. Is that aired in Canada? Thanks for stopping in for a visit, dearie. I’ll boogie over to see you in a few! 😉

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Eugenia,

I feel like a rock. I’m sinking fast. lol Well…not exactly but things have been more hectic than I care for them to be which shows in my blog life. I am so grateful to have such good friends like you who understand. 🙂

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Jacqui,

Both artists are pAwesome! We like listening to the older mewsic on the radio and sometimes one of these will pop up on the air which I always enjoy hearing.

  • 15andmeowing

I love your theme choice and choices. The Huey Lewis and Flashdance bring back memories from high school 🙂 Thank you for hosting. XO

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Ellen,

I was in college when Huey Lewis popped on my radar and going to see Flashdance at the theater. These days if I want to discover new mewsic or flix I stream everything from the comfort of my home. Technology sure has changed.
