Monday Morning Musings

Monday Morning Musings # 7

Are you looking for my Monday’s Music Moves Me post? If so, then click here or stick around to read some random goings-on of the mind. Warning: It may be dangerous! I often hurt myself when I use that steel contraption known as my brain. Watch yourself (me, too) and stand back!

Last week, I rambled a wee bit about how my stereo CD player went ka-poohie. My genius DH fixed that problem without breaking down to buy a new player or tearing apart the old one to repair it. He simply bought a $20 Belkin RCA audio cable, connected the RCA end to “TAPE 1” input port on the back of my CD player, then plugged the opposite end into our Airport Express. This totally bypasses the need for the CD player and allows me to stream audio files directly from my computer to my receiver. It works beautifully and I couldn’t be happier!

This biggest job to this whole upgrading process to make my old stereo high-tech involved copying all of my Christmas CDs into iTunes. It took almost 2-days to finish this task. That’s not so bad seeing how we do not have to buy a CD player at the moment. Maybe, we never will. Audio/video technology is going the whole streaming route anyhow. This really is something we wanted to do a few years ago, but we didn’t have an immediate need to do it until now. Sometimes life’s inconveniences force us to do things which make our life a little easier in the end.

All this talk about stereos caused me to remember a birthday past present my parents got me one year and since my birthday happens to be in December, then it’s almost like Christmas happens twice for me.  Here is a picture of my first stereo system I ever owned or at least it sorta looked like this….

I may have even gotten this song on 45 with it, but I can’t remember for sure. However, I did own the record and it was my favorite. Do you remember it?

That pretty much concludes my thoughts for today. So, let’s do a little blog hopping, shall we?

First up is, Stasha from The Good Life. This week’s Monday Listicles prompt is 10 FAVORITE WORDS.

My 10 are:

  1. serendipity
  2. persnickety
  3. discombobulate
  4. bumfuzzle
  5. confuzzled
  6. nutty-fudge-sticks (DD#2 made this one up)
  7. rinky-dink
  8. ginormous
  9. chillax
  10. whoo-hoo

Next is Heather from Acting Balanced with her MQAM meme. Each week, she cranks out 4 questions for anyone to borrow & answer,  then gives you the choice to add your own 5th question to your post for visitors to respond to in your comments. Don’t forget to grab Heather’s MQAM badge for your blog/post from her site!

1. December 5th is Bathtub Party Day – how will you celebrate?  Hmmm, having a bathtub party sounds kinda fun. This would call for a hot tub party fun, I would think. Too bad I don’t have one. Geez, I don’t even have a really good bathtub to have a party in. sigh Oh well, maybe one day!

2. Apparently, it’s also the week to get your letters to Santa done and mailed – will you be writing to Santa and will you be on the naughty or nice list this year?  You know, I haven’t even thought about writing Santa. But, that would be a fun thing to do. I’m not too sure which list Santa will find me on. According to my DH naughty is nice, so does Santa have a this kinda list? If so, then you may find me on it. lol Oops, is my answer not PG-13 enough for you guys? That may get me on the naughty list. 🙁

3. Do you think that people have unlimited potential?  Wow, that’s a tough one. I think a person has unlimited ability to reach limited potential due to life’s circumstances. For instance, I love to cook/bake. My family reaps the benefits of my potential to be the next Martha Stewart wannabe, but who’ll never see that come to pass given where I am in life coupled with no education, experience, or stroke of goodgood luckget such a venture off the ground. That’s okay by me, though. I am fully happy with my limited potential. That being said, does this mean someone younger than myself has unlimited potential? I’d have to say no. You can’t take a non-athletic child and turn him/her into the next Olympic Gold medalist nor can you expect that every child that picks up a music instrument to eventually play with the London Symphony Orchestra. It’s good to believe in oneself, but reality is what it is – there are limits to everything.

4. How many holiday parties/events will you be attending this month?  None. Events? Would this include things like special trips out to see Christmas light displays or doing other traditional holiday outings? If so, then we have several planned. I am not a party person. I prefer to celebrate quietly with my DH & family.

My question is when shopping for others, do you buy with the mindset of buying something that you would like to receive if you were the person you are buying for? I have heard it said, it’s always best to buy like you’re buying for yourself as this makes for the best presents. I am not sure how true this is, but I do how good it makes me feel to do it because I giving someone else something that I like.

To complete my Monday morning ramblings, I want to skip over to Carissa’s for:

lowercase letters

It’s Cyber-Monday! Will you be taking advantage of the super sales online or did you break the piggy bank on Black Friday?

I have all of my gifts taken care of, except for the hardest people in the world to buy for,  my in-laws. What do you get someone who doesn’t want anything or has everything they need? They are not rich people, but rather simple. Thankfully, they have no huge expenses other than the cost of living. They are up in years, so their interests and hobbies have all but vanished. They are considered people who appreciate with all their hearts whatever we get them, but they are the kind of people who will store away unneeded or unused items.

Last year, we bought them a Blu-ray player thinking this was the “perfect” gift with several old John Wayne movies. After several months, the newness wore off and they offered it back to us. Not having a need for it ourselves, we simply told them to give it to DH’s oldest brother.

Our imagination is just about tapped out for gift-giving ideas for them. We do have a glimmer of hope with an idea that’s kinda stewing in our noggin’ at the moment. More on this another time!

Do you like music? Would you like a fun, loving group of loyal bloggers to visit you week after week after week? If you’re nodding your head ‘yes’ like I think you are, then you’re gonna wanna check out my Monday’s Music Moves Me post and be a part of the dance floor shaken!

I buy presents with the individual in mind. Most people do not want what I would. I try to think about their personalities, life stage and current situation as I am purchasing a gift.

That’s a perfect suggestion. I do this, too. But, when I look at the gift, I still say is this something I would buy myself, if I were that person. If the answer is yes, then I know it’s just the right thing. Thanks for visiting!

I shop for the person in mind since my tastes tend to be on the more technical/geeky side than most. I always make sure to ask for a list of want/needed items or jot down things they mention through out the year.
