Monday Morning Musings

Monday Morning Musings #11

It’s Monday again, but don’t let that small fact bum you out too badly. Instead, let’s make the most of the moment over a cup of coffee with a little randomizing on Monday Morning Musings!

Can you believe, I still have our Christmas tree up? It’s true. This time, I can honestly say I am not procrastinating. Last week’s cold snap left me totally non-motivational to put the tree away. The reason is I would have to enter a room that we closed off so to not compromise the rest of the house’s warmth. I kid you not THAT room was a frigid 30-something degrees!

That being said, today is the day I plan to dismantle the Christmas tree. I am not sure why I should go through the trouble of taking it down considering there are only 347 days till Christmas. Oh yeah…I know why I should. Dah, I don’t want to be lazy about it AND I want to get back to a sort of post-holiday normalcy routine again.

I am so ready to kick up my exercise regimen again and melt those Christmas goody pound pounds away pronto. Next holiday season, I am going to be more diligent in my effort to NOT eat too many sweets. I did better this year than in past years, but still it wasn’t good enough to suit me.

Who’s watching the playoffs? This weekend two of my teams won – the Patriots and the Broncos. Next Sunday, they’ll go head-to-head. I like both quarterbacks, but since Peyton went to UT then I will be rooting the Broncos on to victory. Everyone loves Peyton, have you noticed? I mean, the camera is always on him when the Broncos are playing, plus he’s in a few commercials. That guy sure has the endorsements behind him. What I like about Peyton is, he doesn’t seem to let his fame go to his head.

Feel free to join my NO-RULE Monday Morning Musings linky party below.

And, I invite you to follow me in my morning blog hops with my first stop for Monday Listicles. This week’s prompt Stasha says, “Let’s go wild, freestyle with any 10 things on our list.”

10 Random Things I plan to do…

  1. Take Christmas tree down. You probably saw that one coming, eh?
  2. Kick start my NY resolutions diet beginning this morning! I’m a bit slow, but better later than never, right? *wink*
  3. Maintain a daily 1000-1200 caloric intake. Sounds simple, but if you’ve done any calorie counting then you know it adds up quickly. Every calorie counts when you begin limiting yourself.
  4. Start regular daily exercise routine again today! The hardest part of anything new is getting started. I’ve read that the first three days of a routine is the most difficult, and then after that, it becomes easier.
  5. Strip our bedding & wash everything! This is such a big job (an all-day affair) during the winter months with all the extra blankets.
  6. Figure out birthday & special occasion cards to hand-stamp for this year starting with DD#2 upcoming anniversary. Gotta get on the ball fast!
  7. To figure out a way to combine some of my daily hops. At least for a short while. Part of my NY resolutions is to get fit, but to do this means lots and lots of exercising. I can’t be in front of my computer all day if I hope to meet my goals. *sigh*
  8. To discover new music that uplifts, gets me going, inspires me to enjoy the day that’s given to me.
  9. Get creative a bit each day in various ways – organize a room, start a journal, draw a picture, cook something new, …
  10. Every day cherish every second I have with my most wonderful darling husband. Life is just too short.

Each week, Heather, puts on loan FOUR QUESTIONS for anyone to borrow and answer for your blog post, and then she give you the option to add a fifth question of your own for those who are visiting your blog to answer in the comment section, along with commenting on the four questions you answered. Don’t forget to grab the MQAM badge for your blog or post or both from Acting Balanced blog!

  1. It’s International Skeptics day – what are you skeptical about? Skeptical always about politicians. If they say they are out to help you, then expect what they really mean is “What can I do take away a person’s personal liberties?”
  2. Wednesday is National Hat Day – what is your favorite hat? Do you wear hats often? I am not much of a hat wearer, but if I am to pick a favorite one then I would have to say a baseball cap. Does this mean I am a redneck? lol

  3. What one movie or two would you say should be on everyone’s must see list? I think It’s a Wonderful Life and Gone with the Wind are two classics everyone should see at least once in his/her life.

  4. If they were going to make a reality show about your life what would it be called? Lost in Space.

My question today is, Which meme are you stopping by from – Listicles or MQAM or 4M?

Still looking at my tree, lights on! It is undecorated but we found we enjoyed the ambience it gave in the evenings so we kept it up! 🙂 Probably needs to come down this weekend though, but no worries! You’re not alone!

As to the diet..that seems like an awfully low calorie intake. Whew. I try to do two things (because I could never keep up with calorie tracking): 1) Eat mostly protein and veggies with SOME fruit and 2) Eat only when I am truly hungry. Seems to work! Best wishes in your goals!

My caloric intake is good for me. I’m a small built lady, so this works perfect for me. I would not recommend someone who is larger to try to go so low. I know there is the worry of one’s starvation mode kicking in if you go below 1000 calories which will cause your metabolism to slow down and that defeats one efforts in losing weight because your body will hold onto those calories instead of burning them. It’s rather tricky. Thanks for visiting!

I am stopping by from MQAM. My grandparents used to simply put a plastic bag over their tree and carefully carry it downstairs for storage till the next year.

    • Cathy Kennedy

That’s an excellent idea and if we had a basement or even an attic to put ours in then that would be a good idea. Maybe one day in my dream home we can have storage to do this. I think my in-laws did this for a time before they decided that even that was too much to do this Christmas, as they did not have their tree out. But, they are in their late 80s and early 90s, so who can fault them? Not me!

I’m here because of your Monday Morning Musings. 🙂

I’m all for leaving the tree up all year – which we do. Although we haven’t done this yet, I think it would be nice to decorate it for the different holidays throughout the year, not just Christmas.

Gone With the Wind is one of my all-time favorite movies. It’s a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street (the original one!) are a yearly tradition in our house. I’ve seen both every year since I was a kid. It just wouldn’t be Thanksgiving and Christmas without them!

    Have a great week!

Part of me likes the concept of keeping the tree up year round, but then it would take away some of the specialness at Christmas. So for now, I’ll just put it up and take it down while I can. We may have to rethink at some point of using our 6″ foot tree when we are older because it’s such a big job. I don’t even like thinking about it, but seeing DH’s aging parents’ struggles hit closer to home of our own futures. They didn’t even put the tree up this year, which was kinda sad and yet I couldn’t blame them for not doing it.

    • Cathy Kennedy

If I had outdoors lights up then it would take forever to get them down. I love Christmas light displays, but I do feel a wee bit bad for folks who have to take them down in the middle of winter. That’s no fun, I’m sure!

I’m with Rory Bore … I only took the Christmas tree down a few days ago too. We’ve all been so sick through the holidays and beyond that the chance to put away Christmas never came. Looking forward to getting back into exercise … who am I kidding? I’m dreading it! LOL

    • Cathy Kennedy

Well, it’s kinda nice to hear that I am not alone with the Christmas tree dilemma, but like I told Rory Bore, you have a real excuse. Oh, I hear you on the exercise. I’ve decided its the least of the two evils – hard work verses keeping unwanted pounds. As much as I hate sweating it, I don’t like be pudgy, either. The things we women must do to look our best, eh?

  • Rory Bore

Don’t feel bad — I only took the tree down yesterday. But then my reason was I was so sick lately. (an unplanned diet though – ha!), I just didn’t the energy. But my parents are visiting tomorrow for my dad’s birthday, so I thought I’d better get it done.
Now I am thinking we should have just turned it into a birthday tree! LOL
I like your idea to do something creative every day. I think that would make for a really interesting year.
    #5 I’m here because I like you 🙂

    • Cathy Kennedy

At least you had a legitimate excuse as to why you haven’t taken your Christmas tree down. Mine seems a bit lame, but that cold blast we got really crushed my mood to do anything else other than try to keep warm. The good news is I got the tree down and have nearly gotten all of my bedding washed, dried, and put back on my bed. Also, I squeezed in an hour of ride time on my stationary bike and I’ve done really well with keeping to low calories thus far. Yay, me! Ahh, your answer to #5 is so sweet. I like you, too! 😀
