Thursday Art Date

Mama Bear with her baby #art theme

Today’s theme is ‘Forest & Critters’. I wasn’t sure if I’d have time to participate but I did a quick sketch and then filled it in on Tuesday of Mama Bear with her baby.  I used a wide range of paint effects to give my Procreate texture. That’s one thing that’s difficult to convey with digital artwork.

I like to think this mama and her cub are in the Smoky’s Cades Cove area where we’ve seen them in past years but you might spot them anywhere.

Thanks for stopping in with your coffee for a peek at my masterpiece and …oh yeah for not spilling it on my artwork. 😉  It’s been a super pleasure to share my sprinkle of talent I have with you this morning. 😘 If you like to see what others are bringing to the art play date, then I invite you to high tail it over to Rain’s Garden to browse through the gallery of artistry!

I came late to the party today, having just seen your post at AEDM. This is truly an adorable entry. I adore your hybrid entry. It’s wonderful and show how talented you are. I look forward to seeing more of your clever art at AEDM, too.

      Bluebeard and Elizabeth,

No worries about the late hook up at my place. I had nearly forgotten that I linked up with AEDM yesterday. I need to find my niche for getting more involved with the artsy communities amongst fellow bloggers as this is where my interests are leaning more in this direction. I find it hard to break from old habits, though. I”m glad you came by and I appreciate your kind encouragement.:)

      Leigh,

Well…thank you! I can’t seem to draw lifelike critters. They always come out looking cute and sweet but that’s not all that bad of a thing I reckon.

      Erika,

Thanks for visiting. Let me kindly mention that your Gravatar profile does not have your blog URL associated with it, which makes it difficult for someone to find you. Luckily, I knew you had to have found me through one of two art linkups yesterday. 🙂 To get newbies to pop in on you then you may wish to fix that or leave a direct link in comments. Alrighty, now moving on. I appreciate very much your lovely message on my illustration. It always does a girl’s heart good to get words of praise. 😉

i love bears and this is so sweet. I especially love the look of the baby bear. I think you captured different paint techniques like their fur. Very sweet

      Liz,

I’d say they are getting ready for their winter-long sleep but did you know black bear sometimes wake during hibernation to go in search of food? Maybe other bears do this, too. I don’t know but I read this tidbit awhile back and found it interesting because I was under the assumption that they slept the entire time.

I love those bears!!! Great job on the texture by the way. I can see how it would be difficult to convey that digitally, but you did great on the bear fur and the forest floor! Those are not the bears I’ve met in the woods lol..smiling at the camera lol!! 😉 Thanks for finding the time to join in!!! 🙂

      Rain,

Thanks for the compliments and you’re right these bears aren’t like the ones you might meet in the forest. I don’t think I’ve ever seen any friendly bear in the wild, no matter how cute those cubs are, I know to stay way far away from them because mama will not like it one bit. I see some pretty dumb people in the Smoky’s getting dangerously close to wildlife. If it didn’t kill the idiots or put the animal at risk, then maybe what these big dummies need is a good paw swipe to put the fear of God in them so-to-speak. Maybe, just maybe they’ll respect wild animals for what they are WILD and get a little sense knocked into them, too.

Your work sounds perfect! I’ve never tried digital art and I know my window of time fir that has left me but it sounds wonderful!

      Laurie,

I’m totally hooked on my iPad and Procreate drawing app. I began sketching old school in 2017. That year DH got me an iPad Pro for our anniversary and it didn’t take me long to realize that I could get an Apple pencil to draw on it. Many months before my birthday I began dropping hints to DH that I wanted one and sure enough, he got me one. The rest is history as they say.

      Christine,

I’m glad you liked my comment. Your fairy home is so cute. I need to draw something like that sometime. 🙂 Thanks for your kind words about my bears.

  • Valerie-Jael

Hi Cathy! Love your bear family, especially how the littl’un is clinging to the tree. Great interpretation of the theme. Hope your Thursday will be a wonderful one, I’ve got art-group this afternoon so that will be fun! Hugs, Valerie

      Valerie,

Whenever Rain gives us an art prompt I go to Google looking at images for inspiration and that’s how I came up with me drawing my mama bear with her baby. The picture I found actually had a mama with two cubs, one laying on a fallen tree limb which I liked very much and decided to include in my own artwork. Thanks for visiting, my dear.

    Hi, Cathy!

It makes me smile to gaze at your artwork, dear friend! These bears are drawn well and their poses are realistic. They have come to attention because humans are near, but they do not look fearful or aggressive. I like the way the little cub is hugging that log. The background features make for a realistic rural setting, the kind you can pull from memories of visits to that isolated valley in the Great Smoky Mountains. This scene is wonderful, Cathy. Thanks for sharing your torrent of talent with us this morning and have a super day!

      Tom,

Cades Cove in the Smoky’s a rustic pioneer community. There are several old homes and churches visible from the 1-way loop road into the valley with nearby parking for one to get out to enjoy. This was my late FIL favorite spot in the Smoky’s to visit. He often said, ‘I imagine this is what heaven looks like’ and I definitely have to agree. It’s a beautiful place!
