Maine Vacation 2022

Maine Vacation 2022, Part 3

Cliff House

We’re still on day one of our Maine Vacation and 3-hours away from check-in.  Before we left our parking space near Short Sands Beach, we talked about what to do next.  We feared what would happen if we just plopped ourselves down in the car for a quick nap, not that we could sleep being super charged, we drove toward our motel to our next attraction, the Cliff House at Bald Head.  This is a place if you have to ask how much then it’s not for you. lol  It’s a gorgeous place but what really sells it is the view.  I didn’t even think to take a picture of the front of the hotel because I was only interested in seeing the cliffs.  We were here, not as guest, in 1989.  It was a dark and rainy night.  I was tired and we had our 11-month old daughter in toll.  I didn’t want to get her out in the windy, wet conditions.  She was getting over Roseola.  Her doctor assured us it wasn’t serious and travel was perfectly safe for her but I didn’t want to push boundaries unnecessarily. I don’t think DH could see anything but like me sitting in the car, he could him the waves crashing like canon blasts against the rocks.  He said he barely could stand up with the wind gusts pressing against him.

I can only image how nice it is to sit around the fire at night with the tide coming in it. I can almost hear the waves booming against the rocks, can you?
Cliff House lobby. Amazing, right? Off in the distance a boat came into view. Can you see it?
The floor below us looked very nice. I love the fireplace! It would be a nice place to spend the evening conversing with new or old friends.

See, I told you composition isn’t always my best. In this case, I was totally at fault. I knew DH was there but I wanted to get the picture. My attention kept slipping every time I saw a different view. I can’t figure out why. lol

We’re on the patio area you can see in the previous two photos. I’m loving every moment of this as you can imagine.
We’re about to descend the stairs from the patio . You can see the footpath leading around the edge of the hotel. That’s where we’re headed.

The series of pictures below, I created a slide show with the hope of making you feel like you’re there as the waves roll onto the rocks.

Another view similar to the first in this series. Timing is everything. I think if I had lived by the sea then I’d be better at capturing the spray. It was still fun nonetheless.
I did get some activity in these two pictures but all I kept thinking was how crazy wild it would be to shoot the ocean at high tide. Talk about squeals?!
The previous pictures you looked at is now to my back. The sky was clear as a bell. Along the horizon on the right side of the photo you might notice there’s a jaunt of land or island.
I used the zoom feature to see what I’m looking at and it’s Nubble Light!

Although a bit fuzzy, I’m thrilled at how well the iPhone 13 Pro handles far off subjects. My Big Girl camera with a long telephoto lens no doubt would’ve been sharper but I didn’t want to lug around heavy photographic equipment for two weeks. I’m very happy with my new phone!

I’m glad you joined me for my third installment of our Maine vacation pictures from last month. The day isn’t even over yet, so with that I hope you’ll continue to hang around for my next post in this series.

If you’re looking to join other photo memes the you’ll want to check out these Wednesday connections…Sandee, Natasha, & Wordless Wednesday!  Up next on CAAC, the 4M dance party opens on Sunday for early party goers. I moved my actual music post back to Mondays.  Come boogie with me to this week’s theme picks!  Have a wild and wonderful day! X💋X💋, Cathy

      Stippie & Peachy,

The water is wild along the coast the coast of Maine. It’s beautiful to watch from a safe distance where I can keep dry.:) I’m happy you enjoyed the view!

That view! The crashing of the waves. The scent of the sea. The blue of the water. So lovely. Wish I had been on that patio with you. It’s been many years since we’ve been to Ogunquit and we never went to the Cliff House (or the Goldenrod). My only complaint – I used your slide show and it could be my vision but it seemed like all the pictures were exactly the same! Maybe it was my browser. If that area is pulling your heart back to it – go next year. Go for it! Alana ramblinwitham

      Alana,

All of the pictures in the slideshow are very similar. I had hoped clicking through the photos would give the appearance of the waves moving. It didn’t seem to work as well as I first thought it did. Maine is definitely pulling at my heart to return. Vacationing is so expensive. We’ll see how things are shaping up for us early in the new year so we’ll know what we can do. Thanks for stopping by!

      Brian,

I loved watching the water! The ocean totally captivated me. It always does, I just forget how much I like it until I face it again. It’s quite mesmerizing.

A Maine vacation sounds nice. I’ve only been to Maine briefly and most of the time it was at night. It was all so long ago that I barely remember. That was in 1977 I believe. The only thing I recall doing was that we went to a restaurant for a lobster dinner. I had to have lobster while I was there.

      Lee,

If you ever get the chance to visit again, take it! It’s so beautiful along the coast. Everyone wants lobster when visiting Maine. We aren’t huge seafood lovers. I think we liked it a little more when we were younger but it fell out of favor with us as time went on. This time around we primarily had the fish and chips but we did get a lobster roll. We don’t like the texture of most shell fish, but I wanted to make a point to get it so we could say we had it on vacation.

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Wild, Wacky and Almost Wordless Wednesday, dear friend! Thanks for letting me tag along with you and DH as you continue on the next leg of your New England adventure. It amazes me how you packed so much sightseeing into day one, with no sleep, and hours before you even checked into your hotel! You guys must have been operating on pure adrenaline. I can easily see why your hearts were racing and your blood pumping. The scenery around the Cliff House at Bald Head is absolutely break taking, and the sky was crystal clear and blue, making every picture you snapped look like a professional postcard. You are too hard on yourself. I think every picture in this set is a winner. Yessum, I can imagine the continuous roar of those crashing waves – nature’s mewsic. How exciting it must be to be for Cliff House guests to relax on that outdoor deck at night and listen to the waves pounding the jutting rocks and cliff face and feel the cool, invigorating spray drifting over them, carrying in on the wind. If and when it gets too chilly, they simply head indoors to that luxurious lobby and sit by the fire. I can see why only a Rockefeller could afford to lodge at that hotel. Days and nights spent enjoying all the Cliff House has to offer must surely give guests a hearty appetite for New England cuisine and allow them to sleep soundly at night. What a gorgeous setting!

Enjoy your Wednesday and the rest of your week, dear friend Cathy! My next post starts tomorrow and hope to see you at Shady’s Place.

      Tom,

Thank you for stopping by this morning, my friend. I appreciate your kind compliments. You’re absolutely right, we were running on pure adrenaline on day one which came from above. Looking back I don’t know how we did it. It certainly was a thrilling first day. We’re still talking about our experiences with hopes to return next year. Have a wonderfully, wild Wednesday!
