Maine Vacation 2022

Maine Vacation 2022, Part 15

Hello, if you’re new or missed my previous post I shared images from West Quoddy Lighthouse and Schoodic Point.  Today’s revisit is from September 18th.  It was a cool, drizzly Sunday.  We didn’t want to venture off the island or do a lot of driving about because our daughter who lives in Maine was driving up to spend a few days with us.  It had been nearly four very long years since we saw her last, so I don’t have to tell you how excited we were for the reunion.

We had breakfast again at Jordan’s but I didn’t take any pictures. Afterwards, we kept to downtown, strolling the streets on this misty, windy day.

DD#2 got into Bar Harbor late afternoon.  I don’t remember the time but I know it was before our reservations for Cadillac Mountain because we were able to keep it and include her.  The visibility on this day was zero.  DH took a selfie of the three of us but those two won’t let me share those pictures without consent.  What silly heads! Anyway, I took this picture so you can see what I saw on this day.

Clouds…nothing but clouds! And the wind? Well, it was wickedly cold. We did browse the gift shop before it closed and got a few things for DD#2 and her boyfriend who couldn’t join us.

By the time we got done at Cadillac Mountain the sky’s gray brought on an earlier evening, so we decided to get dinner.  We went to Paddy’s Irish Pub & Restaurant at the corner of Main and Elm near the pier parking. I meant to take a picture of the outside but forgot, so I went to Google and did a screen capture.

Google had a pretty day for street view captures

In the screen capture, looking straight through the tree, we were seated by the window and below are the few pictures I took.

For dinner, we had the fish and chips.  It was really good.  What a wonderful way to finish up the day with our daughter.  It was simply a beautifully, relaxing evening and now it was time to head to our rooms for a good night’s sleep.  Tomorrow, we had lots planned!

Before I go, I want to let y’all know that I have a mid-month BOTB underway.  It went up earlier this morning. You can find the link in my side bar under Current Headline News banner. 😉 That concludes another day in Maine.  I appreciate your visit and your time to journey with me as I enjoy our vacation all over again. Watch my Monday’s Music Moves Me post each week for announcements when to expect the next installment in this series.  Speaking of which, if you have music to share you’re invited to link up hit the dance floor with the 4M crew.  You’ll find me boogieing to the weekly theme inspired song picks but remember themes aren’t required to gain access to this party! Beautiful photos, as always, Cathy! Too bad you had such chilly weather, but the scenery must be even more breath-taking in person. It must have been wonderful to see your daughter again after such a long time, too. All in all, a memorable holiday! 🙂

      Debbie,

The moody weather is beautiful. I don’t like being cold, though. The thrill of everything kept me pumped and I was able to tolerate it better than usual. Oh yes, it was so wonderful seeing our daughter again after so long. We had intended to make a trip to Maine much sooner than we did but the world went crazy in 2020 crushing our plans. The time spent with DD#2 was definitely the brightest highlight of our visit this time around! Thankfully, we got to see her again a few weeks later at our son’s wedding. We’re making plans to go back to Maine. Late spring sounds like a good time to go but I think we may have to wait until next year. Our timing is off I think for this year.

      Brain,

The fish n’ chips entrees we feasted on during our stay generally were good no matter where we ate. I wondered how they kept the fish from falling apart. Mmm, I wouldn’t mind having some right now…okay, maybe for dinner. 🙂

You got some nice pictures even though it was not the best of weather then. And seeing your daughter must have made the trip so much better. Any time I see photos of Bar Harbor it makes my heart sing. It is my favorite place in Maine. First time I went there with DH it was so foggy we couldn’t even see Cadillac Mt. And we thought we were going to be stuck on Bar Island on day it was so foggy. Something about the place just made me fall in love with it. Maybe the smell of the ocean and the smell of the pine trees combined. There are so many quiet towns to explore all throughout the coast of ME. I can only imagine how crazy busy it was last year and probably be this year with tourists esp after the last few years of not being the best times to travel. XO The Ts and Brenda.

I loved the beautiful weather. I loved the moody weather. No matter what Mother Nature hurled at us, it didn’t dampen our spirits. Maine is a magical place to vacation. I’m sure it’ll be another wild season for the state and I think the government shut downs is largely to blame. People are happy to be living again instead of confined at home. We had a blast despite of the crowds. 🙂 Thanks for sharing this day with me.

Lovely photos of Maine. The only time I have been there was during a cruise. I would love to go back to see more, but that is not going to happen now.

Oh it would be nice if you could visit Maine. You would enjoy it if you could spend some time zigzagging up the coast to see all of the quaint harbor towns and haunting lighthouses. Thanks for stopping in!

      Marie,

We love Maine! This was our 4th time to visit the state. It’s also where our youngest daughter lives, so this gives us extra incentive to go there when we can. Thanks for joining the fun, my dear!

      Steve,

I didn’t watch a lot of Murder She Wrote but it’s quite possible the series is set in Maine or somewhere in New England. Thanks for joining me in my adventures on this day!

    Hi, Cathy!

I’m back hiding in your trunk, dear friend, a stowaway happily accompanying you on the next leg of your amazing journey through New England!

It was bound to happen sooner or later. I see that your luck with the weather ran out on this day at Bar Harbor and that you endured chilly temps, wind and drizzle. On the bright side, conditions like those are great for working up an appetite for hot pancakes! 🙂 My gosh, I didn’t realize that this vacation reunited you with your DD#2 after four whole years!

Even on a gloomy day, the beauty of the harbor, the inn, the restaurant, lamppost and orange marigolds shines through in these pictures. I think it was a blessing for you guys to have at least one day of experiencing the area with overcast skies and dreary weather. Days like that can have a magic all their own, make you thankful to be alive and make it all the more pleasurable to find a warm spot to rest and enjoy a hot meal, not to mention the joy of a hot bath or shower at day’s end.

That is indeed a wonderful picture you snapped of a pigeon in flight (and in perfect focus) in the foreground and the large mast sailboat out on the water. You also spotted a handsome tree that was beginning to turn red with the approach of autumn in Maine. I’m sure you can close your eyes at any time of the day or week and run through a mental slideshow of all these glorious images and other sights that your camera did not capture. Those happy memories with be yours to savor the rest of your life.

I can feel the dampness sinking into my bones as I gaze at that picture showing the thick cloak of clouds and mist. I need hot pancakes just from looking at your pics! 🙂 Paddy’s Irish Pub looks like a beautiful place to dine and a great place to linger for a while on a day of cold and dismal weather. I’ll bet the fish & chips and wild blueberry pie hit the spot. I’m so glad the food was good and that you and DH spent some quality time catching up with your daughter.

I thoroughly enjoyed tagging along with you again this week. The more pictures I view in this series, the more I realize that this was possibly the best trip you and DH have ever taken as a couple. Enjoy the rest of your week and look for my next post at Shady’s Place beginning this Saturday, the 18th. Have a wonderful Wednesday, dear friend Cathy!

      Tom,

Okay, it’s gotta be a bit cramp in our trunk. Next time, you can sit in the back seat. 🙂 I’m glad you came by to enjoy another day in Maine. Yep, the weather was on the dreary side on this Sunday but despite the gray and wet conditions, it was still amazing. I think that’s because we were on vacation and we both were determined to not let anything stand in the way of enjoying every second to its fullest. It would be great fun to go back next year late May – early June. We’ve been to Maine twice before that time of the year as well twice in late fall. It’s really a gamble but in the past our vacations in late spring seemed less busy but then that a lot of years ago (1989 & 2004). We’re thinking about staying more with quaint harbor towns and away from touristy areas where people congestion is worse. Who knows, we might change our minds but that’s what we’re sorta thinking about anyhow. I think you’re right this trip is the best in many ways that we’ve taken but we sure did have some good ones when the kids were home. Thanks for the heads up on your next post date. Have a wonderful day, my friend!
