Maine Vacation 2022

Maine Vacation 2022, Part 11

Click to enlarge Tom mentioned in comments last time he’d like to see the hoodie DH got me in Rangeley and I thought maybe others might be interested, too.

Thank you for including me in your day. Before I start, I want to say I know these posts generally cause a lag to build so I’m trying something new.  My image display is smaller but you can you click to open the slide presentations to view each picture in a larger format.  I hope this helps.  Moving along, in my last installment, I shared our brief stay in Rangeley Maine. I’m continuing the journey with more memories and photos beginning with our final phase of our vacation destination, Bar Harbor. We left Rangeley early on Wednesday, September 14.  I can’t recall our precious route but I do know that we went through Skowhegan toward Bangor.  DH wanted to go to a donut shop that we missed the last time we were in Maine.  The donut shop in Bangor has two locations and both were closed. With Bar Harbor an hour away,  we decided to wait to go to our favorite breakfast place in town, Jordan’s Restaurant.

I was originally concerned that we might miss getting to Jordan’s before they close for the day but we got there at 1:30pm.  With no waiting and a light crowd, we were served quickly.  DH got Jordan’s blueberry pancakes and Maine maple syrup.  I got a ham, green peppers, and onion omelet with American cheese and a blueberry muffin.  It made us happy to discover that Jordan’s had not changed.  Everything was delicious. DH got a Jordan’s t-shirt with “The best blues in town” printed on the front for me and I really think they are the best in town!  Jordan’s became apart of our morning routine nearly every morning.

After we ate, we drove to our room.  In 2004, we stayed in a family unit at the Bar Harbor Motel and loved it!  That’s where we booked our stay for the next nine nights.

Our room didn’t disappoint us.  It had two queen size beds, a small refrigerator, nice bathroom, and plenty of comfortable moving space. We had the unit in the above picture on the left end near the red car.  Later in the week when DD#2 joined us, she had the adjoining room which was really nice. Once settled in, we drove back into Bar Harbor.

You can see that it was another gorgeous day but what you can’t tell is that it was super windy.  Standing on the pier with gusts moving me made me extremely nervous.  I wanted so much to get closer to the pier edge but in some of the pictures you can tell there isn’t much protection from falling into the water.  DH gambled getting far closer than I’d dare to venture.

The rest of the afternoon, we walked around downtown eating ice cream.  We went to three different places. By the time we were through neither of us wanted dinner.  Instead of making bigger piggies of ourselves, we called it quits and went to our room for the night.  Tomorrow would be a new day with lots more to see, do, and eat. 🍦🍩

I’m not committing to weekly episodes in this series as before because of the enormous block of time it takes to pull these posts together. I hope that you understand.  Look for my next segment to launch Feb 8th.  I’ll put in a reminder in my Monday’s Music Moves Me post that week.  Speaking of which, you’re invited to hit the dance floor on Monday where everyone will be groovin’ and a movin’ to this week’s themed song picks.  Have a wild and wonderful day! What a beautiful vacation you had and reliving it with us is a good thing.

I got stuck on the breakfast though. Looks so yummy.

Maine is a state I would love to explore.

Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday, Cathy. Love and hugs, my friend. ♥

      Sandee,

Going to Maine really fulfilled our expectations. I’m looking forward to going again but this time to spend more time with our daughter whose lived there since 2017. Our other daughter is talking about moving up there sometime in the not-so-distant future. I want my children to be happy but why does it have to be so far away? 🙁 Thanks for visiting, my friend!

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Wild, Wacky and Almost Wordless Wednesday, dear friend! I am here with my backpack on to join you and DH on the next leg of your Maine adventure. Thanks for showing everyone the hoodie DH bought you up there. It’s obviously well made, and I love the color and cool logo – a real conversation starter whenever you wear it. Have you worn your hoodie very often this winter?

i’m sorry you missed out on the donut shops for a second time because they were both closed, but luckily you saved your appetites for the “grand slam breakfast” you enjoyed in the early afternoon at Jordan’s Restaurant in the destination town of Bar Harbor. I see that blueberry pancakes and a blueberry muffin were involved. I love blueberries and wish I’d been there! The food looks delicious, and I’m happy for your sake that the eatery lived up to your expectations and memory of it from your previous visit. Wow, a nine night stay at a place you love, the Bar Harbor Motel. You and DH really planned a great getaway that afforded you plenty of time away from the daily grind back home, and it was so nice that your DD was able to join you there during your stay.

It must have been pure joy to gaze out at the harbor, boats, yacht and islands. Mrs. Shady is crazy about fountains and gazebos, and she will enjoy seeing the pictures you took of the lovely fountain and handsome gazebo at Bar Harbor. I know what you mean when you explain that you got nervous out there on the pier with a strong, gusty wind pushing on you. The pictures you collected are all excellent, even though you didn’t venture out to the very end or edge of the pier. Mrs. Shady drove me crazy when we visited the Grand Canyon in 2014. She constantly leaned over the railings to take pictures, and it would have been very easy for her to drop the camera into the gorge… or worse. She’s a daredevil, and apparently, so is DH, more so than you and me. I have balance issues because of my arthritic feet, and that’s all the more reason why I need to play it safe in those situations.

The pictures you brought back from this trip are stunning, Cathy. You will treasure them always. Have you showed them to LA yet? I look forward to the next part of your journey early next month. Enjoy the rest of your week, dear friend Cathy. I’ll be here to hit the dance floor with you next Monday!

      Tom,

We came up short on donuts this time. That wasn’t near the problem in 2004. Maybe, next time we go we’ll have more success. Mrs. Shady does sound like a daredevil. DH takes more chances than me but I don’t think he’d want to compete with your wife. Ever since his detached retina issue, his vision isn’t quite the same even after reattachment. This forces him to take safer measures in what he does. Thanks for continuing to stroll down my memory lane with each post in this series, my friend. Have a wonderful afternoon!
