Challenge

Lyrical #Challenge, Day 1

Purrs and hisses, Kittens & Dawgs! I hope y’all had a furrrtastic Labor Day weekend.  I’m not gonna kid you life on this end is a bit strained.  Some things came down at the end of last week which left this gal chasing her tail plus we’re trying to get things figured out about retrieving stuff from my late in-laws’ place before the deadline.  That all being said, I want to apologize now for my late return visits.

Okay, that was my random rant now to get on with the meat of today’s share. Last week, my blog bud, Mary from Cactus Haiku nominated me to take the 3-Day Lyrical Challenge and I happily accepted.  You know me and mewsic, right? 😉  Luckily, the rules are simple enough for me to follow which is purrrfect fit for me these days.

1 Thank the person who nominated you.
2 Share one of your favorite song/lyrics one at a time for three days.
3 Nominate three other bloggers each day.

Before I begin, let me say a special thanks to Mary.  I’m delighted you thought of me and passed the challenge this way.  It’s absolutely no trouble at all just so you’ll know.  😉

This is going to be difficult to narrow my choices to just a single song but I’ll refrain and play nicely.  *must fight the temptation*  Yeah, you know the rule-breaker than I am!

I’m what you call a girlie-girl. I love all things that make me feel cozy inside from scents to touch and from sight to sound.  Some of my fondest memories are tied up in feelings instead of actual events.  My mind instantly fell on my first song choice because of the lyrics which says me in so many ways and perhaps you can relate to the words, too.

I can’t recall when I watched The Sound of Mewsic for the first time but we routinely watched it when our kids were small.  This is perhaps one of my favorite mewsicals.  I wanted to see the Von Trapp’s family in Vermont in 1989 but our itinerary was too full to accommodate the side trip.  Anywho, my favorite song from this mooovie is  “My Favorite Things” by Richard Rodgers.

Note: I originally posted the lyrics but after getting a comment from the author of Stunning Keisha, a lovely bloggy friend, gave me pawse on this matter and so I decided to replace the lyric contents with a link to an off-site. Thanks for watching my back, my dear! 😘

What is your favorite song from The Sound of Mewsic?

If you’re a fan of the movie, you may like to read these 14 unknown facts about the film.

The hardest part is to figure out who to send this challenge.  Let me put my thinking cap on.

My first batch of nominees goes to like-minded bloggers. No not those with little brains but those who love mewsic as much as I do!

Michele at Angels Bark, Tom from  Shady’s Place, & Kim from The ReInvented Life!

[tweetthis]#LyricalChallenge Day 1 nominees go to @greyzoned, Tom, & @TheReInVtgdLife. Congratulations & have fun! #favorite #lyrics #song[/tweetthis]

A special word to my nominees, please don’t feel obligated to participate if you can’t do or don’t want to for any reason.  It won’t bother me in the least.

I’m scooting off to join Stacy Uncorked in Random Tuesday Thoughts and hopping over to Sandee’s for Tuesday Fun.

Please join me tomorrow with my not-so-Wordless Wednesday contribution to publish at midnight and then later in the morning at 6am my Lyrical Challenge, Day 2 post!

Hey Cathy! Thanks! I just saw that you nominated me in this Lyrical Challenge. Thanks for that! It’s been crazy here these last few days. Listen to this one: yesterday I had to take my Mom back to her apartment so she could take care of some things there. I have to go with to help her in and whatnot, but as soon as I started my truck I realized I had forgotten to put in oil so I pulled over on the street and grabbed the bottle of oil out of the back of my truck (I keep a stock on hand there) and went to lift my hood so I could add it BUT because of my shoulder surgery I couldn’t raise my arm high enough to lift the hood and place the kickstand. Naturally no one was around in the neighborhood so I told Mom to follow me to Advanced Auto Parts. Got there and asked one of the guys to come out and lift my hood for me…and he went ahead and put the oil in for me too which I appreciated. I had used my last bottle of oil so I went in and bought 4 more, came out, waved to Mom, jumped in my truck and started to drive away, looking in the rear view to be sure Mom was following. But she wasn’t moving from the parking space. WTH is she doing?? I drove back around and went over and she said “The car won’t start!” I’m like “What?? This is practically a brand new car!” So I go back into the store and asked the guy to come out again. He lifts the hood and says that maybe it’s the battery BUT then I noticed some scraps of insulation-type material all bunched up at the top corner under the hood. I grabbed it up and said “What’s this??” and he looked at it, moved it around and said “ahh, I think a mouse or a squirrel has been in here chewing on wires.” Arrrrgh! Yep, there was also an acorn shell there too. He called another guy over to give us a jump but that didn’t work so we had to call a tow truck to come get Mom’s car and tow it to the dealership. Effin’ squirrels! I love watching them and they’re so dang cute BUT they have cost me so much money over the years. A few years ago they got into my truck and chewed wires. Same thing: had to be towed to the garage and after a $600 repair job, I got my truck back. Then just two years ago a family of squirrels had found a way into my attic and I had to spend another bundle of cash getting the fireplace and soffet holes repaired to seal off their entry points and then had to get the pest control company to get them out of the attic (trap and release). They ended up getting 5 squirrels out of my attic over a two week period!
And now this with my Mom’s car. OMG. I was exhausted yesterday!
Today I went and bought a big bottle of ammonia and a spray bottle and sprayed all under my hood and around the outside of my truck. Apparently that helps keep them away. Too bad I didn’t know about that before they got into my Mom’s vehicle.

Anyway, long way to say, I just saw your nomination here… So thank you! I will definitely participate but it may be a few days. I have to go renew my license tomorrow as it expires on my birthday (well, that’s today I guess as it’s after midnight) and I can’t renew it online as every few years here in Texas they require that you do it in person. This is my year. So I’ll be spending my birthday at the DMV and the dealership if my Mom’s car is ready by then. Whoopie! 🙂

I read Kim’s comment and I think I’m going to do what you suggested to her: leave it open to anyone as an open invitation because like Kim, my circle of blog folks who would be interested are the same as yours and you’ve already nominated most of them so I appreciate you giving us that option.
I’ll let you know when I get a post up. But it won’t be tomorrow… 🙂

    XOXO,

I remember when it first came on TV and I couldn’t wait and watched it and fell in love. I had already been to Salzburg so i was so excited to see places I had been to. I love this song, The Lonely Goatherd and the beautiful Edelweiss. I have to admit, I wanted to be married in that gown, in that church:)

  • Kim

I actually don’t have a favorite song from The Sound of Music….I’ve only seen it once or twice, many, many years ago! I liked reading about why it means so much to you, though!

I accept your challenge! I may not be able to fulfill it as far as nominating people, because outside of what is basically your circle, I really don’t know that many other people who are blogging! But I will definitely do it for myself if that’s okay!

      Kim,

My mewsic circle of blog buds who actually like throwing these sorts of posts together is limited. You may wish to include a general invite to anyone who wishes to participate. I’ve done that with other challenges & awards. It gives everyone an opportunity who wants to do it to play alone. I shall look forward to your song/lyric selections. 🙂

    CATHY ~
That’s a good movie and my favorite song from it. Very clever lyrics, a portion of them which I have had posted on the sidebar of my primary blogs since the day I started blogging ten years ago.

My version is slightly altered, however…

    ALL ABOUT ME!

Likes: Raindrops on roses; whiskers on kittens; bright copper kettles; warm woolen mittens; girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes; snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes.

Dislikes: Dog bites; bee stings; tattooed women; Uncle Sam; U2; Quentin Tarantino; Madonna; Clint Eastwood; conforming “nonconformists”; martinis made with anything other than gin and vermouth.

      Stephen,

Some of your dislikes I can definitely get behind but I must admit I’m a fan of Clint Eastwood or at least his older stuff. My favorite being his Dirty Harry series. Tattooed women – ugh! I think it’s bad enough that men ink up but I do make an exception to armed service guys, though. Quentin Tarantino is from Knoxville. I don’t think he lived here long but if you Google him you’ll see that he has some roots in my neck of the woods. His movies are a bit too brutal to suit my taste in films. We did watch recently for the first time “Kill Bill”. It was super fantastical with a hard to believe storyline but then that’s Hollyweird for you. I wouldn’t call it awful but it’s not a flick worth a repeat viewing.

    Hi, Cathy!

I didn’t expect to see a post from you today, and so I decided to get some extra sleep. Mary came up with an interesting idea for a post series for mewsic loving bloggers like us. Thank you very much for nominating me for the 3-Day Lyrical Challenge. You are a sweet friend!

“My Favorite Things” would also be my pick as favorite song from The Sound of Music. I can’t think of any other song with as many poetic, clever and imaginative lyrics and lines. I also like “Sixteen Going On Seventeen” and even make reference to it in the upper right of my new blog under the “high school portrait” of Shady Del Knight. I read with great interest the 14 unknown facts about the making of the film adaptation of The Sound of Music, everything from Julie Andrews being blown over by the helicopter wind on the hillside to injury on set to historic inaccuracies. I’m sure every great film ever made had its share of problems and accidents behind the scenes. The trick is in production and post production where those problems can be hidden or fixed so that the audience never realizes they occurred.

It looks like you have signed up for more than one hop this week, dear friend. I will do my best to make it over for all of your new posts. Have a wonderful week and once again thank you for thinking of me, Cathy!

      Tom,

I’m trying to get back into the blogging groove again and this nomination pushed me to insert it in this time slot. Now, you got me curious about Mary’s inspiration for a mewsic series. Will you reveal this soon? You’re most welcome for the nominee. Just do it whenever or if ever you want. There’s no rush on my part for it to get done. Have fun with it and thanks for visiting, dear friend!
