Battle of the Bands

Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds BOTB Reveal

I’m AWOL in Blogosphere today since it’s DH’s off-Friday but I wanted to fill y’all in on who won in last week’s Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds showdown.

Some of y’all didn’t care for some of the covers but I agree with Lee, they all have some little something special that catches the ear.  I felt this battle probably hinged on how a person feels at the time they sample the selections. All three voters found favor with my peeps.  One more than the others.

Black Sheep’s more rock vibe and Easy Star’s cover reggae version, along with the length of their renditions didn’t fly over well. I initially feared this might be a problem but nonetheless it was worth the gamble. Despite The Hooters live recording the majority loved the overall sound. The group using a mandolin might have even helped with sealing their victory in this showdown.

But, who did I go with you ask? I found it a tough call and I’m quite certain if I listen to this playlist later in the day then my opinion is likely to change but in the early hours I found Easy Star’s reggae did it for me.

A recap of how the votes fell….

The Hooters burst onto the Philadelphia music scene in 1980 as a new and different kind of rock band formed by songwriting partners and players Rob Hyman (vocals, keyboards, accordion) and Eric Bazilian (vocals, stringed and wind instruments). They met at the University of Pennsylvania and after playing in a number of progressive bands such as Wax (Lightyear Entertainment) and Baby Grand (Arista), they decided to pursue a different musical direction.  The Hooters’ About
